A.J. Hawk calls middle finger a “running joke”

Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk apologized for flipping his teammates the bird on Sunday.

Hawk said the gesture was a “running joke” with some of his teammates.

“I’m stupid. I don’t even realize sometimes when I’m out there that anyone’s out there; the TVs or anything,” Hawk said before promising not to do it again.

Hawk said he hopes to avoid a fine, but we’d expect him to get one.  He should make NFL history as the first player to be fined for an obscene gesture towards his own teammates.

  1. I honestly don’t think it’s that big of a deal. It was a dumb move by him, and he should be fined for it, but I don’t think less of him, and people are making to big of a deal about it… Go pack!

  2. Obscene gesture or running joke, America will never rest until this is made right for all the fans who were traumatized.

Anyway, it’ll make another non-issue hot button for all the posters here who are bitter about the Pack.

  3. I understand this kind of “Yeah, yeah, F you!” humour with your buddies (teammates) but I’m not sure why it wouldn’t occur to him that he was being nationally televised… At any rate, this isn’t a big deal at all, though I doubt he’ll avoid a fine.

  4. This ranks right up there with Big Ben’s bathroom behavior and Mike Vick’s numerous felonies, doesn’t it?

  5. I HATE the dancing and stupid celebrations after a routine play. There is nothing more classless or lame. But this? This is awesome.

  6. I really hope we are able to get past this. If Michael Vick and Donte Stallworth deserve a second chance in this league…. I just hope that in a few years we will be able to forgive AJ….in a perfect world maybe.

  7. The Packers are losing some of the class we all thought they had. We will see if God-Del sees it as a running JOKE.

  8. I’m sure all of the same Packers fans were writing off the “fake moon” Randy Moss did years ago in Lambeau. What a bunch of hypocrites.

In other news, Mark Chmura was hired as Head of Community Relations for the Pack.

    You stay classy Cheese Country

  9. So Ian watching the Cowboys/Pats game and twice within a 25-30 second window we see Dez Bryant’s butt-crack…

I think that was more mortifying than the bird… C’mon FOX, really??

  10. ‘Funny, Very Funny, I know when I was explaining it to my 5 & 8 year old we sure had a good chuckle about it. Stay Classy GB’

Yes, because your kids will never see this anywhere else other than on a football field…

oh you dildo, no packer fan cared about that…we thought it was funny. It was Joe Buck post Janet jackson that went all nuts about it.

but hey when trying to slam the pack…accuracy means little

Right. I’m sure that that was the one thing they noticed but had no idea what it was. And you were forced to explain its perverse and horrbile meaning to them in detail

    Have a nice season.

Way to go dumb-a$$! Your 5 and 8 year old(s) wouldn’t have even noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out, what a moron!
Right up there with Jim “Psycho” Schwartz!

  14. I wish Gruden had been talking about Hawk being the greatest ever to play the position when that happened.

  15. No big deal, none of us heard what the guys on the sideline were giving Hawk. We love you A.J.
Just don’t chase down the opposing coach, try to pick a fight, make a fool of yourself, and then blame it on him, OK?
Leave that S%*T for the Lions.

  16. An appendage was raised. How obscene!

How about instead of reacting irrationally to hand movements, we just act like adults and ignore it? Of course, if people stopped giving such “obscene” things so much attention, then there wouldn’t be any point in doing it in the first place…

  17. if a viking does this, you will get packer fans on here posting the lists of all the vikings who have been arrested since 1980 to show how classless the vikings and MN fans are.

if a packer does it, it’s not classless at all. it’s just a fun ol’ joke, good boy havin fun out there. sound familiar, packer fans?

  18. BTW, if you ever see one of the Packers making a circle below their waist, don’t look at it….

If you do it means you’re gay.

“Won’t someone PLEASE think of the children?!”

No, Mrs. Lovejoy. Your kids let you think you were explaining it to them. Or your kids are incredibly isolated from other kids. I haven’t met a 5 year old that doesn’t have at least a passing idea of what flipping someone the bird is.

I find it funny how many people are just desperately searching for a reason to hate Packers players. For a group of people who claim to love competition and what it represents, a lot of folks seem awfully bitter about seeing a successful team.

    Petty.

No offense but for the 2 secs that was on the screen and the fact that the announcer’s didn’t make a big deal about it tells me that either YOU made it a big deal or your kids already knew what that ment.

Stay classy being a bad parent.

  21. All the stereotypical “stay classy” drivel gets old. Yes I’m sure your “classy” team never flips the bird or does anything else wrong…

It was a mistake, plain and simple. Let it go…

  22. He should make NFL history as the first player to be fined for an obscene gesture towards his own teammates.

That’s pretty funny! But on the bright side, at least Goodell won’t be fining him for (gasp!!!) making a tackle.

  23. Those of you letting your young children watch NFL, you know this kind of stuff happens so you should know better. Besides, are you totally ok with them seeing commercials full of beer and scantily-clad females?

  24. Why is it that everytime a player does something questionable people blame the whole organization for being unclassy? It’s annoying and I’m not even a Packers fan. But anyways, what was he thinking? Haha

  25. I used to love the Pack. But their irrational fans have turned most people including me against them. If any other teams did this, they are the first to point it out, but they think the Packers can never do any wrong.

  26. what are you idiots basing this whole ” classless packers” b.s. on? classless because they beat your team? or classless because they have yet to play your team and subsequently beat your team. get over it they’re a good team! :

  27. Wow I hope he gets fined, suspended, fined again you may think since im a vikings fan that im doing this to be mean well im NOT im serious. Think if kids were in the front row saw that. The parents would see their kids do that and the kids thought it was cool and started doing that you would think the parents saw that they would do something. Probably sue A.J Hawk or the nfl any of you guys think it was cool to see that not even caring stop looking at the positves and look at the negatives reading these comments makes me know you don’t care for safety you may think it was funny but when i was watching that game i knew something bad would happen and you will see it to keep laughing you think you like him more becuase of that when you see him suspended you won’t be laughing hopefully Goodell does something about it and the packers SUCK you packer backers

  28. This all starts at the top. This team made a deal with the devil the second Ted Thompson hired Ari Flechser to orchestrate a smear campaign against a current player.

    “sound familiar, packer fans?”

viking fans with their whiny drivel on anything Packer related cause they’ve got some sort of inferiority complex with the Packers?

yeah…. sounds all too familar…. in fact, it’s absolutely annoying.

  30. Grow up America!!! This is a testosterone saturated game and in the heat of the battle, these guys do things like this! A.J. rocks and I find it hysterical that he was scoring some payback with his team mates! If you’ve played team sports, then you get this, if you haven’t, then stop whining and deal with it

  31. As long as he doesn’t attempt to tackle a quarterback or cover a wide receiver, he won’t get fined.

  32. If your kids can’t handle the sight of a football player on tv giving the finger, then congratulations on raising a namby pamby pampered brat who is completely unprepared for what life has in store for him/her.

  33. look at all of the Packer haters…….wow some guys actually said he had to explain it to his 5 & 9b yr olds…..Yea Right…….I am sure the kids were devastated…..oh no………
I cant believe people stoop that low to critisize the world champs

Hawk make a tackle? Yea right, I am a Packer’s fan, I know he can’t tackle. That’s the inside joke.

  35. I’ve said this before. Ron Burgandy was 8 years ago. Time to find a new catch phrase here people. I swear, if I ever hear somebody say the phrase “stay classy” again, I’m going to punch them square in the nose.

  36. Yes, all right thinking, self righteously horrified fans must demand that bird flipping be added to the banned celebrations list and that dropping to a knee and pointing heavenward now be a post-sack requirement.

  37. So he flipped off his teammates. I’m pretty sure dropped the f bomb towards several of my friends yesterday too. Who cares. He’s probably going to get a fine because it was on TV but otherwise, I see no reason to say Hawk or any of the Packers are classless. Get a clue. I swear, I don’t know why I bothered to read any comments on here. Nobody is real, they just drum up idiotic responses and see how many people they can urk. Talk about having no class.

    This…

  39. It blows my mind that you can even pretend like the Packers are classless. They’re undefeated yet we hardly talk about them. Watch ESPN and see how many times they talk about the Packers. They’re too concerned with Vick or Tebow or fighting coaches or frickin eightfive’s stupid tweets. Why? Because the Packers are good but that’s it – they don’t run around acting like they’re hot stuff or create controversy. This is ONE THING, and it’s not even a big deal. Get the hell over it and stop diggin’ for reasons to hate the Packers.

I thought you guys were men who liked football for christ’s sake. Act like it.

  40. Yeah how could he forget he was on national tv? I’m sure Jaws knew exactly what he was doing when he dropped the S-Bomb on prime time. Try getting your 3 year old to stop repeating that!

  41. Anchorman called, it wants its jokes back.

Seriously….. for all those that wrote “stay classy,” – I’ve got one for you – “you stay original”

  42. He was just signing for the hearing impaired at home.

It may be a little too soon to give the Packers the “hyper exposure”after only 6 wins… let them win one more Superbowl before we start examining them like the 00′ Patriots or 90’s Cowboys.

Then we can really start calling them classless..

And for the non-packers fans: Don’t worry, if we can’t beat them at football we can still beat them at CLASSINESS! – Hollar Girlfriends!

  43. For those of you comparing this to the Randy Moss moon, remember…A.J. flipped off his OWN bench. Not the other team’s bench. Not the other team’s fans. His OWN bench. Obviously, it was done as a joke and not as any type of disrespect. It was the DISRESPECT shown by Moss’s act that infuriated everyone, not necessarily the “moon” itself. Who hasn’t mooned someone as a joke before? It all context people.

Oh, and if your 5 & 8 year old haven’t seen a middle finger before, you are about 3 years late for signing up your oldest for school. They are supposed to start at age 5, but apparently yours aren’t attending for some reason.

  44. Isn’t one of the most memorable moments in MNF history when the cameraman caught an Houston Oiler fan shooting him the bird? Everybody take a deep breath and relax.

“He thinks they’re number one in the nation!”, Don Meredith RIP.

  45. I hope the picture of Hawk giving the finger doesn’t replace the picture of the adorable little football (aka soccer) fan giving the finger for general purpose obscene gesture articles!

  46. So if it’s horrible for Hawk to do what he did and get’s fined for it how bad is it and why isn’t it wrong for PFT and the NFL to post the pictures to the entire world. NFL is going to love putting this in a picture frame and selling it for 45 bucks. But they’ll fine him first. Haha you ppl just don’t get the inside joke that’s Green Bay’s new we’re number one salute.
    Go Green Bay!!!!!!!!!!!
