Eagles hang on, finally get second win

When it comes to “must” win games for the Eagles, the third time was a charm.

Up 20-3 at the half, Philly held on for a 20-13 win over the Redskins.

Though the Eagles go the victory, they were sluggish in the second half, allowing the Redskins to hang around almost long enough to steal the game.

After Rex Grossman threw eight completions and half as many picks on 22 attempts, John Beck entered the game, completing eight of 15 passes for 117 yards.  Beck also scored the only touchdown of the second half, running the ball in from the two.

After the Redskins scored that touchdown to narrow the gap to seven, the Eagles converted a pair of first downs, allowing them to run out the clock and secure the win.

For the Eagles, LeSean McCoy churned up 126 yards on 28 carries, with a touchdown.

The Eagles are now in the thick (kind of) of the NFC East chase, with the Redskins at 3-2, the Giants at 4-2, an the Eagles at 2-4.  The Cowboys could be 2-3 by the end of the evening.

They weren’t really good, Rex was just bad.

played a little to cautious in the 2nd half but to quote A. R. any win in the natinal football league is a good win.

It was only a matter of time with Rex. I also predict that Beck has a short lease, too, before they go back to Rex.

This is the same Coach Shanahan that once benched John Elway.

As happy as I am to see the Eagles finally get another win, there is a lot of things to be worried about. No need to put it on cruise control in the 2nd half, that’s what killed them in the 49ers game. Too many mistakes, and they can’t keep letting teams get back into the game and hang around like that.

See what happens when you run the ball ANDY!!! Really though, good gameplan for the first half, then they looked sluggish in the second-half but finally held on to win the game.

    Nice to get a win…2nd half wasn’t good, but…

Finally it wasn’t bad enough to get a L.

why in the world is Grossman starting? The guy is awful.

Thanks again Rex. I believe I was the only poster to thank you in advance on this site. You reminded us of your time in Chicago. The re-run was great!

A win is a win, I get that, but as wins go this one stunk! Grossman throws four picks and the Eagles have to hang on against a second string quarterback to win! Somehow, I don’t think the nightmare for the Eagles is over.

This game was never in doubt. Don’t kid yourselves.

  13. eigglesnosuperbowls says: Oct 16, 2011 5:14 PM

The bogus ruffing the passer call for vick in the end zone helped the eiggles big time ! Did you see vick grab his face mask like he was concussed on the hit but a Redskins helmet never touched him !

wassthamatter.. overmod.. HAIL.. My point was precise yet somewhat derisive. LeSean McCoy was a nasty man today. Nice win.

The 1st step was taken today…

The Eagles will win the NFC East.

Hard to believe Grossman can still draw an NFL paycheck after all these years.

  21. weneversaiddreamteam says: Oct 16, 2011 6:01 PM

Happy with the win…thank you very much Rex!

  22. baddegg says: Oct 16, 2011 6:08 PM

    Congrats Eagles.

I didn’t think the Eagles looked like they were “back,” though. A performance where you hung on for a 7 point win after Grossman throws for 4 INTs is not going to get it done against the elite teams of the NFC.

As for the Skins, I really think their defense settled down after the first couple of Eagle drives and played a good game. Holding Vick and company to 20 points is NOT bad.

But Grossman…you were terrible. This confirms the fact that the Redskins are vastly improved over last year but still need a QB in order to be a playoff caliber team.

  23. jucam1 says: Oct 16, 2011 6:28 PM

I’m just glad to see Rex be Rex and the Skins be the bottom dwellers they are, the universe makes sense again…. As for the Birds, if (Huge if) this team ever plays their best game (75% of their best game was displayed today in the first quarter) i am now sure none of the NFC East teams can beat them…. No matter who comes out of our division we will lose to the Pack or Saints… The Eagles are a mess, if they can clean it up, no NFC East team is even close talent wise…. They’ll still blow it though….

Wins a win a wins a win. Reids basically undefeated after the bye plus 3 consecutive home games coming up. So you’re telling me there’s a chance? Yeeeeessssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. mwcarolina says: Oct 16, 2011 6:54 PM

Wow, uh Rex Grossman just sucks and holds the Redskins down and sadly, i dont think Beck will be much better. THIS is the reason why i want to see Matt Barkley in Washington.

It’s called Karma, Mr. Cooley. LOL!

  27. cleverbob says: Oct 16, 2011 8:58 PM

The Skins are what everyone thought they were, bums. Eagles were slightly less bum-ish.

  28. reece1975 says: Oct 16, 2011 9:29 PM

    Great win!!

  29. westportjohnny says: Oct 16, 2011 10:07 PM

McCoy is quite possibly the best back in the NFL

  30. ihateduke says: Oct 16, 2011 11:19 PM

Redskin fans can kill that Super Bowl talk. Don’t they know the Skins do this all the time – win a few games to get their hopes up and them tank!!

  31. oldbyrd says: Oct 17, 2011 9:33 AM

I am a long time Eagle fan but, we can’t get excited over beating the worst QB in pro football. We still have a horrible group of Line Backers. All Pro players have been asked to play a different role. Something like Babin when he was here the first time. He is a flat out pass rusher. He is not a read and react DE. I stand by my opinion that Reid is stubborn and makes bad decesions. Yesterday was just the result of beating an over rated Quater backless team. Heck …Beck almost pulled it out and he is the back up to arguably the worst QB in football

    It’s funny…

Every week the Iggles have lost, there have been 35 “articles”…slight exageration…with 150 comments…

    Where is everyone this week?

    Bah! Who cares…

    Go Eagles.

  33. dopesimms says: Oct 18, 2011 8:05 AM

The Eagles found new hope? No.

1.) The only weapon on the Redskins offense is Santana Moss. And he can’t even be as effective because his quarterback sucks ass. So the pass defense can only be so exposed, especially because Chris Cooley is irrelevant now.

2.) The Redskins have three every-down backs, and can’t pick out a true starter. So their running game (the Eagles other biggest weakness thanks to their sorry linebackers) will never be very effective.
