Polamalu could be facing fine for in-game cell-phone use

AP

After Steelers safety Troy Polamalu got his bell rung on Sunday, his phone apparently was ringing.

So he answered.

Highlights of the game shown during NBC’s Football Night in America show Polamalu talking on what appears to be a Blackberry smart phone.

The next call could come from the league office, since players and staff are prohibited from using cell phones on the sideline during games.  More than five years ago, former Falcons coach Jim Mora was fined a whopping $25,000 for using a cell phone during a game against the Buccaneers.

In 2003, former Saints receiver Joe Horn also was fined $30,000 for using a cell phone as a prop during a touchdown celebration.

  1. I can see the new Head and Shoulders ad now:

Joe Mauer: Troy, were you using your cell phone?

    Troy P: No (sheepishly)

    Joe Mauer: You sure?

    Troy P: (guilty voice) Yeah…

  2. How the hell did he get service in the stadium? I can never get service anywhere at all in any stadium. Too many people for the cell towers

  3. Cue the Steelers fans saying that this is just another example of the league going after the Steelers…

  4. These guys why didn’t he just pull a sharpie out of his sock scribble a note and rip one of those many pigeons he has roosting in that bush thats on his dome. Send the message on its way. No fine no Whine.

I am sure he has a cell tower included in that bush on his dome!

  6. Here ya go atwater, you mean something like this ?
I got six rings which means I can do what ever I want. And if the league doesnt like it, well then it’s a conspiracy cause they hate us.

  7. He was handed the phone, and it was obvious that the call was related to his injury.

Some of the people commenting here really must be in junior high. That’s the only possible explanation.

  8. Who would he talk to even if it was handed to him by the team physician? Isn’t that what those “corded” phones on the sidelines are for?

  9. obvious to who?

no cell phone use on the sidelines, period. They have the best medical care available on the sidelines there’s no reason for him to be talking to anybody.

And here you are again 😀

What’s obvious to me is that you have a mighty big Steeler fixation, don’t you? How delicious!

  11. Cut him some slack I’m sure it was an emergency, his boyfriend gets really jealous, especially when Troy jumps on the pile to try and pad his stats. I hope they work it out.

  12. Meanwhile their coach rudely hangs up on reporters for the flimsy reason of asking an absurd question and nothing happens. I demand action!!!

  13. He was wondering what the line was in Vegas. Very concerned about a player on the phone during a game!

  14. Maybe it was his wife making sure he was ok. Yeah, he should get a fine since it’s a clear rule violation, but why don’t you wait to pass judgment on him until you actually know the details.

  15. Oh I get it.

Phones made a hundred years ago used to ring and some people say getting a concussion is getting your bell rung.

    That’s very clever.

But why would he be fined? Wasn’t his cell.

    Or is that another joke?

  16. If Troy’s told him once, he’s told him a thousand times not to call during games.

But I guess you can’t tell some of those snippy beauticians anything…

  17. Alright guys, enough with the bell run jokes and him using the phone and him getting his bell run. On second thought, keep em coming. Sincerely Joe Flacco

  18. Part of me wonders if Goodell and his crew sit around a table and say “we haven’t handed out enough fines this week, log on to PFT and see what they give us.”

I have ZERO problem with guys being able to let their families know they are fine. Usually though they make the calls from the locker room. Whoever handed him the phone was in the wrong also and maybe even more so. If his wife was on the line, can you imagine his saying OH NO, I WON’T TALK TO MY WIFE.

@flakazoid:your whiny constant and obsessive hatred and obsession is funny and pathetic at the same time. YOUR TEAM has all the trophies more recently. U mad????
