My impression (although I haven’t seen Hawk’s statistics to confirm this) was that he hadn’t gotten a sack in a while so some of Hawk’s teammates had been giving him the business. The middle-finger salute, to me, came off as “Forget you, guys. There’s my sack, jerks (though not in language so eloquent”.

My only problems are that he were playing for any other team, I’d suspect Packer fans would be using it as a holier-than-thou point. Instead, that “no big deal” card is pretty easy to play when it’s your favorite team in question.

While I think it was quite immature of Hawk to flip the bird knowing the cameras are rolling all the time during an NFL game, I think it’s being blown a little out of proportion here. As I dad watching the game with his kids I am much more offended at the barrage of Cialis commercials that the brief moment of a middle finger being flashed. So if the NFL and the networks want to climb aboard the sanctimonious high moral horse here, then so be it, fine AJ Hawk, but get rid of those Cialis commercials for once and all. Be consistent at least.

I love that we have this sport, a sport where each play is reckless abandon violence….yet we’re outraged when two coaches get into it, and someone flips the bird, or any other instance in which someone shows emotion. (Then we’ll complain that every one is too corporate these days, and we’ll wonder why)

Might want to go watch something else if that stuff offends you.

Besides, I know my freinds and I aren’t the only group of guys that endearingly rags on each other when we get togther. It’s entirely beleivable to be that it was an inside joke. I’ve been apart of similar inside jokes.

Me thinks the joke may have been that Hawk has not had a sack in like 40 years and maybe was being chided about that so when he finally got one he gave the person who was chiding him the bird?
Not a Hawk fan. He always seems to be late to the action and the third one on the pile. I know he is never there to stop a running play. Wish the pack would have dumped him two years ago for a real quality DB.
If it wasn’t for Mathews stellar play, Hawks poor play would stand out more.

No team is full of angels and no one has said the Green Bay Packers are without sinners. They’ve had plenty but the culture of the team and the types of players they try to get are quality people who can also play football. They work hard at trying but like anything else aren’t always successful.

To all you posters who are worried about the trauma to their poor children:
While they are watching a game they see closeups of coaches or players clearly mouthing words you tell your children not to use, players doing some stupid chicken strut and beating their chest because they DELIBERATELY put some serious hurt on someone, half clad women bending forward in front of the cameras shaking their pom-poms, TV coverage of drunken boobs acting like fools, and we could go on and on and on. Now comes a one fingered salute that’s going to scar them for life? I’m not complaining about these acts because I’m watching too, but spare me the “poor children” routine.

It appears he didn’t flip it at anyone associated with the opposing team, the fans, the refs or the camera. It looks like he indeed is sending a message (joke or not, it really doesn’t make a difference) to his own team. It was stupid, immature and tasteless, but he’s apologized and I’m sure the league will be asking for a donation from him.

For those with young kids, once he’s fined you can use that to demonstrate such behavior is wrong and has consequences. Can we all move along then?

All these comments about “what a bad guy AJ must be” are a load of crap – just because a guy made a mistake. You yahoos are living with your heads in the sand and you need to need to wake up to reality to what is important – WAKE UP PEOPLE – this is the world we live in and if you lived either on the east coast or west coast you wouldn’t even think twice about this – my kids see worse in the first hour of school every day then the one finger salute!

I would be proud if my kids had the work ethic the AJ Hawk has – For those that don’t know (obviously most of you) AJ starts his day between 4:30-5:00am to work out in the gym 365 days a year! Can you do that? He is one of the the most dedicated football players to his profession as there is!

So go ahead all you yahoos and throw him under the bus because of a 1 sec screen shot on TV that I had to even rewind to see if he did that – All you holier then thou’s make me sick!

Woodson’s running joke is punching opposing players after the play on nationally televised games and only getting fined 10k because the commish has a man crush on Green Bay, then watching the commish fine their AFC opponent in the last superbowl 50-75k for every other debatable hit.

What joke ???? and what was all about???? I didn’t get it either .

I was upset and didn’t want people to get a bad taste of Packers…. I am big fan of packers…. and they do showed a lot of class acts.

To A.J. I think that I understand why this happened. It was a darned good tackle !!!

And, I would have done the same thing to my teammate. This all makes sense now.
