Cooley’s surgery on the way

Redskins' Grossman talks with Cooley on the sideline during the second half of their NFL football game against the Eagles in Landover Reuters

The worst season of tight end Chris Cooley’s otherwise consistently strong career took a nasty turn Sunday.

A broken left index finger will require surgery and knock Cooley out indefinitely, according to coach Mike Shanahan.  Grant Paulsen of 106.7 reported Sunday Cooley would be out roughly six weeks.

Cooley will also seek more opinions on his knee. Depending on what he finds there, it’s worth wondering if we’ll see Cooley again this year.

Cooley hasn’t looked like himself this season because of his knee problem.  He never seemed to fully recover from offseason surgery, and has lacked foot speed. Cooley has just eight catches for 65 yards this season.

We mentioned during the bye how healthy the Redskins have been this season overall. Apologies for the jinx.  Cooley’s injury will be compounded by a high ankle sprain for left tackle Trent Williams, and a season-ending knee injury for guard Kory Lichtensteiger.

If nothing else, the schedule favors Washington in the short term.  They face Carolina on Sunday, and the Panthers defense hasn’t stopped anyone.

He was worthless on the field anyway. Hell have plenty of time now for his oh so clever and witty tweets.

Its just unfortunate Cooley, now imagine if Romo were to gloat about your misfortune, you never know in this world son.

I seem to remember Terrell Owens/ Brett Favre and countless other people playing through a broken finger. If Cooley can’t do that than I’m suddenly starting to like Romo’s odds in that cage match

Hmmmm….I hope that we can trade Cooley away for someone decent. While I like Cooles…It is definitely time for him to move on and for us. He has not looked the same at all since a couple of years ago. Granted, he has a slug throwing the ball to him into the dirt and into the stands, but he does not seem to have the speed or strength to keep this thing going. Hail Cpt Chaos….Make it rain a trade for us. Davis is the future.

Romo plays with broken ribs and a collapsed lung and Cooley is going to miss six weeks with a broken finger.

Does he really want that cage match?

He still has his left hand to tap out.

  7. jucam1 says: Oct 17, 2011 8:42 PM

He’s always been wayyyyy overrated, Nmandi just showed the league what a soft player Cooley is…. Cant wait till Snyder gives him a 6 year extension!…

  8. cw3214 says: Oct 17, 2011 8:50 PM

    Nnamdi lit him up.

  9. poshous4life says: Oct 17, 2011 8:53 PM

Ha! The first time I have ever rooted for a philly player was Sunday when Cooley got his @$$ rocked by Nnamdi! Probably should steer clear of ANY cage matchs sunny boy!

Shout you mouth now, wimp. Broken finger? Come on. Would not share a fox hole with you, you are soft. Be a man, tape it up and block at least……

i do not like chris cooley (i hope this one doesn’t get deleted like my other 5 comments)

Um…. earth to the idiots. Hello?

It’s not HIS decision to get surgery. Obviously the doctors and the medical staff are saying it’s necessary. We know nothing about the specifics of the break, so questioning Cooley’s toughness is off base. The guy has played for 8 seasons and hardly missed any time at all. Anybody forget about his three touchdown day against the Cowboys when he was dragging defenders left and right?

And by the way, he was a four-time state champion wrestler in high school. Pretty sure he’d make quick work of Romo.

Fingering himself while thinking about wresting around with Romo……

Karma rears it’s ugly head one more time. Cooley will have plenty of time to root against the other teams in the league. It’s not like the Skins will miss his piss-poor contributions!

And why would anyone trade for a banged up, ineffective backup tight end that is about to go on IR? Some folks just don’t understand the realities of the trade market.

On another note, I’m glad all that pre-game chirping about Landry, Orakpo and Company lighting up Vick, D-Jack and Company has been replaced with cricket chirping…

    @ kelsocarpenter

“four-time state champion wrestler”??? While Cooley did win the state championship as a senior in high school, Once is not the same as four times. And running your mouth about someone playing with broken ribs when a broken finger keeps you out is bush-league, at best.

How ironic !!!!! Whos the beotch now CC ???
All that smack you talked about Romo, youre a fraud.
Spend more time keeping your mouth shut, and try to find some playing time….
I still wish that Witten would beotch slap your wimpy a$$ !!!!!

He’s clearly being held out because of the knee. Shanahan has been concerned with the knee all season. He rushed back from the knee injury and it has hurt him over the course of the season.

Cooley recently said on the radio he’d love to get in the UFC ring with Tony Romo. Since, Romo has played with a broken rib and punctured lung. Cooley is missing the season b/c of a broken finger. My moneys on Romo…

Why the personal attack? Cooley was good in his prime, but he isn’t the same player anymore. Nobody wants Cooley.
