It looked like Best suffered the concussion when he was tackled at the 6 yard line with just over 12 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter. His head hit the turf pretty hard on the tackle, and he stayed on the ground for a bit, and seemed a bit dazed.

He came back into the game (albeit sparingly) after that play. If Mike Vick’s “dirt in the face” concussion is to be investigated, so should Best’s.

You might be the biggest sorest loser in the world. Instead of being gracious you are making excuses. The FACT is that the lions LOST to the niners. Fact is that even though megatron got his yards he was shut out of the end zone (where it counts) for the first time this year. Fact is they shut up Best and Suh, the guys who talked smack. Fact is that the best player that day was Gore.

So stick it. While I’m at it let me tell you that pretty soon lions will be losing to the packers as well.

I can guarantee that no one in the Lions clubhouse is looking past this game. Before the season started, most people outside of the Lions clubhouse had decided that Atlanta winning this game was a forgone conclusion.

Fortunately, the way the Lions have been shaping up this will actually be a game.

As for Javid Best – this is an unfortunate injury for the Lions, but it would be kind of a-hole-ish to just frame in the context of the short term of an NFL season. He needs to look at the long term consequences these concussions could have on his health.

It’s his life/his choices, but I definitely think Best needs to start making plans for ending his football career early. Maybe not this season, but he should plan to get out of the game sooner rather than later.

I’d like it if Troy Aikman gave Javid Best a call. Aikman obviously knows a thing or two about concussions. He might be best qualified person to talk to Best player-to-player, and provide Best with candid/honest information and advice.

Lions: don’t overlook the Falcons …. they played a very agressive game against us and it was a relief to win that one. If your runner Best is out …. that doesn’t make things easier.

I’m guessing that at the close of next week’s games, the most likely scenario for the standings is going to be:

Packers 7-0
Lions 5-2

To be honest, I was sort of hoping that the Thanksgiving Day contest would have both teams still undefeated ….. but ….. I’ll take the airspace in the standings.

Mo Morris is a strong runner between the tackles and, at 216 lbs, doesn’t go down easily. Not a gamebreaker like Best, but more of a “move the chains” type of guy. The Lions will be fine even if Best can’t play for awhile.

Niners fan here…Ninersnation is making us look bad, there is no need to rub it in and yes our defense is nasty but nobody wants to see players get hurt.
We didn’t really shut Megatron down he still had over 100 yds. Can’t blame Harbaugh for being amped up either 49ers were supposed to be sorry this year. The reason we won is because we got to Stafford and Suh was a non-factor.

It certainly hurts to play the Niners, as many RBs have found out this year. Detroit might be better off letting a bigger back carry the rock as they need to get some sort of running game going or Stafford will get killed.

Lions fans are looking forward to that Turkey day tilt with the Packers, but they are going to tee off on Stafford if they don’t start at least pretending they can run.

Best said he hated the 49ers, how does he feel about them now?

are the 9ers the bad boys of the NFC? they are not just winning, look at the injury reports, they are beating teams up weekly. add Best to the list. and their coach seems to be rubbing people the wrong way.

also, the 49ers ran the ball right at, and past, Suh. the team ran for over 200 yards.

Morris actually hits the holes better than Best, but he has zilch breakaway speed. Keiland Williams is the biggest back they have and I think he will see a boost in carries next week. They are just looking for 3-4 yards per carry at this point, not the big run. The problem yesterday was that Stafford was very ineffective, not just in the redzone, but between the 20′s also. The Lions were not able to replace the run game with the short passing game. The only time they got going, they got that ridiculous penalty on Pettigrew and a 1st and goal at the six ended up being a second and 25 at the 30.

All the talk about Megatron and the record of most consecutive games with at least 2 TDs that he tied wasn’t even Jerry Rice’s record, it was Carter’s. Taking nothing away from the greatest WR [Rice] of all time, if Calvin’s a bum for not reaching the endzone then WHAT, exactly does that make Rice? Ya know, everyone saying Lions fans don’t know how to handle winning, I would expect a LITTLE more class after a win from a franchise with FIVE Lombardis.

I also had no idea until this matchup how arrogant and annoying Niner fans are. Coming out of the woodwork or from under rocks everywhere acting like you personally contributed to the team’s success. As ungracious in victory as you are absent in defeat.

Niners played a solid game, brought the pressure, planned around Lions’ strengths to neutralize them successfully. Detroit did not do that well, Stafford was rattled, we couldn’t run, etc. We made good stops sometimes, but broke down when it counted most. It was a hard-fought game as anticipated, and the team that came in determined to win left with the victory, it’s that simple.
