Hey, everybody who’s scowling: we haven’t even played in the Super Bowl for almost three and a half decades. Before that, we were there four times … and scored zero points in the first half. ALL FOUR TIMES. (We put up 34, total, in eight halves–just over a TD’s worth per Big Game.)

The NFC-title contests with the Falcons (’99) and Saints (’10) were barfed away so excruciatingly that they both seem painfully recent. Though it’s been nearly a quarter-century since the Skins played Red Rover with Darrin Nelson at the goal line, our results haven’t yet changed. (I think the ’78/’01 “championship” no-shows vs the Cowboys and Giants are best unrecalled.)

Vikings fanhood for 35 years at least qualifies me to suggest we’d truly better not lose our sense of humor, because so far, honestly, we’ve haven’t won much else that counts. And maybe that’s understating it.
