APPerhaps Carson Palmer won’t be the only big name traded on Tuesday. A few other stars may be available, even if a trade is considered unlikely.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN said on air that Peyton Hillis could be dealt in Cleveland.
“There’s a sense they could be persuaded. We’ll see,” Mort said.
The Browns said publicly on Monday that Hillis, who has a balky hamstring right now, was not available.
Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that the Eagles have made it known Asante Samuel is available. Samuel was also available in August, and no deal happened.
The report indicates the Eagles are looking for veteran defensive players in the front seven rather than draft picks.

Dear Jerry Jones,
You seriously need to consider both of these players as your team is lacking extremely at both positions.
Signed, Cowboy Nation.
ik im gonna get thumbs down…. but tampa go for asante we could use a corner since ronde is gone soon and who knows with talibs legal problems
Knowing Jahvid’s concussion problems + Mikel being out for the season + Detroit’s problems in the running game = possibly Hillis to Detroit
However, Don’t really see this deal going down but for the right price (6th/7th round pick) I’d think about it
Well outside of Grossman the Eagles secondary has been crap so who would want Samuel?
The Browns are dumb, but we aren’t that dumb. Hillis won’t be traded today.
‘boys need a running game…
Also the Vikings are willing to trade Mcnabb and Berrian for a $10 Mcdonalds gift card
Can we trade Shurmur?
Just Sayin’
Haha that is a reach of a trade for McNabb and Berrian. Lil C’s pizza at best. Vikings should go for Samuel.
Bill, please get asante. I know it ended bad but he played well for us go get him.
Bengals should trade Keith Rivers for Samuel.
no full time player will get traded who is not a WR.
It doesn’t work in the NFL they wont pick up the system.
stop trying to make the NFL trade deadline news worthy
PEYTON HILLIS to Seattle, and the Seahawks start him this week. Oh t’would be awesome.
The Browns really believe in Montario Hardesty that much? Hillis hasn’t done much though, maybe now is the time to trade him.
I wonder if the Cowboys wouldn’t look into trading for both players?
Dan Connor for Asante Samuel makes perfect sense
I believe the Browns might just go ahead and trade Hillis. As a Browns fan I know that they put a lot of effort into staying at the bottom of the AFC north
All it will take is two first rounders just like Carson Palmer…..any takers?
not gonna happen

They’re asking way too much for them. I’ll give them a coupon for a free Apple Pie and that’s my final offer. Deal?
Jamarcus Russell for a Summer’s eve douche… Oh wait he isn’t on a team.
Who wants a CB who tackles like Helen Keller?
Unless Oakland has more first round picks to give away today, keep Hillis.
If I’m the Raiders and Hue Jackson, I take full advantage of the trade chaos they’ve created this morning.
IF (big if) Marcus Stroud is health, sign him, re-uniting him with big John Henderson and Richard Seymour (from his college days), and trade Tommy Kelly for Asante Samuel, one for one.
THEN, send Michael Bush and his 1 yr transition contract to the Brownies for now disgruntled Peyton Hillis and his cheap 2011 contract.
Oh and Asante Samuel = Ray Buchanan
You did say Lions are looking for a RB. Hills would be great in Detroit.
Hey Dolphins, The Eagles need front 7 and you need CBs. Stop watching Sesame Street for a minute and pick up the phone.
Yeah, even now that double cheeseburgers aren’t on the dollar menu that is a lopsided trade
Lions being deep at d-line could ship Corey Williams to Philly for Asante Samuel, Detroit can always use secondary help, and Philly is very week at d-line! Williams has another 2 years under contract for about 5-6 mill, and we have a few young up and coming d-lineman in Fairley and Sammie Hill. Would make great sense!!
Whomever trades for Samuel needs to make him a free safety. I never understood why team s keep him at corner when his skill sets (Ants, plus no tackling and the ability to give up big plays if he does not get the pick) is more suited for the centerfield role.
While Samuel isn’t in his prime, my Texans sure could use him…which shows the sad state of our secondary (a problem that goes back to our first year in the league- 2002).
LOL….only the Browns would trade their superstar running back mid-season…….what a joke of a franchise!
Another perfect example of those losers at ESPN trying to create news instead of reporting it. Please stop buying from all their sponsors.
Steve Ross is all in for the Luck plan, they won’t try and reunite Hillis with Dabol, those goal and short yardage TD’s don’t matter when you can get 3 points.
No stories on Tony being fired, yet?
Hillis come back to Denver!!!
Why wouldn’t Denver trade DJ Williams and a pick or two for Samuel? The Eagles need a linebacker that can tackle, DJ won’t be back next year…
That would be perfect, a safety w/no tackling skills that avoids contact.
Madden Curse!!!!!!!
the LIONS could send one of our 10 man rotation guys, Sammie Lee Hill, Andre Fluellen, take your pick, and give us ASANTE SAMUEL
@bigjimatch, if Asante cant tackle why would you want him to play a position that is need more in run support?
Madden Curse?
Strange rumor. I had thought Mortensen was better than this. Maybe not.
“theres a sense”…gotta love fact-based reporting….
Speaking on behalf of the Jaguars, we will give you Rashean Matthis on an even trade for Samuels.
We are tired of all the broadcasters not being able to pronounce his name. It isn’t Raesheen you dopes. He’s been in the league like seven years!
Briggs for Samuel.
Hillis should stay where you are and be an example for why the public should NEVER be trusted to vote for the Madden Cover player.

________________________________
As a Panthers fan, I have to agree we need to make a trade for Samuel. Connor is a nice player but I dont think they trade Samuel for him.
Linebacker is our deepest position, and with a 1-5 record this year is a bust. So lets trade the best healthy LB we have, James Anderson, for Samual.
We get Beason back next year, and both teams take on players with large contracts in Samuel and Anderson, so we all win.
Who wants a guy that won’t play with a sore throat?
And then he volentairly sits out 2 quarters last week only to come back in the 4th qtr? Something wrong there.
Samuel to falcons championship
I’ll trade you Samuel for Suh’s chin strap.
Cowboys + asante samuel = superbowl!
I don’t see either of those teams trading for players, it’s all about future picks people…
If i had a nickel for everytime someone this board has said someone ” sucks” who doesn’t i’d be rich.
Samuel is by the numbers the best corner in the NFL this season. Sure he is not the greatest tackler, but he is a corner. I think there is 2 corners total in the NFL who tackle well. Instead of just speaking out your butts try doing some research. Try watching a game.
Also the Eagles don’t need a DT or anyone on the line. They have as much talent as anyone at the DL position and now that Juan figured out you can’t run the wide 9 on running downs when you have little line backers they will be fine. What they do need is a safety and more importantly a middle backer. But its going to have to be a really good middle backer to get 22. my guess is he stays and gets traded in the offseason and the eagles sling a 3rd for an vet middle backer.
Hillis is on the cover of madden for petes sake
as a patriots fan i can safely say samuel will probably wind up stuck in philly till his awful contract is up…this guy just plays for interceptions he can’t tackle at all and usually he’s out of position and getting beat because he’s always ball-hawking…for the money he’s getting paid i feel sorry for whoever would trade for him

Really? Not with that head coach or a better O-line. The defense is the least of the Cowboys worries.
Honey Badger>Hillis.
Does getting traded from Cleveland technically break the Madden Curse? If you ask me, that’s the best thing that could happen to Hillis … unless he ends up in Jacksonville.
Hillis needs to make like Lebron and take his talents elsewhere…
South Beach, North Beach or no beach. The key is to get out of Cleveland as fast as you can
Lance Briggs and Chris Harris for Steve Smith and Asante Samuels.
Nobody is going to trade a starter on defense for Samuel in the middle of the season. Unless Samuel understands a team’s system, too much of a learning curve to establish value. Then again, that didn’t stop Oakland from one hell of a stupid deal. Maybe Philly will find their “Oakland” and someone will overpay for Asante.
Buffalo could really use Asante, move Florence to cover the slot and Have McGee stay on is left side. Use McKelvin in slim dime sets and when injury presents itself. Without a pass rush, we need all the coverage we can get!
If the Browns don’t resign Hillis, and they trade him…. I give up on society. I’ll go put a 38 special in my mouth and leave a nasty suicide note directed at the Cleveland Browns front office.
@staff2cj4td: Philly has a very good d-line (Cole,Babin,Jenkins, tapp, landri etc.) , we’re 2nd in the league in sacks and are always pressuring the QB. The Eagles need lb’s though in the worst of ways. If Detroit (or any team) has any good LB’s please pick up the phone .
We should put Samuel, Steve Smith , Parker up on the trading block , hell package them all and throw in that extra second rounder, just bring in a playmaker @ LB Philly! “!

Superstar running back? That might be a stretch. He had 1 good season. He’s at most the 3rd best RB in the AFC North.
Plus, the guy got traded for Brady Quinn … he can’t be that good.
The Eagles would never trade Samuel to the cowgirls, you retards.

As long as you still have Romo you’ll never make it past a divisional championship, and I’m being generous. Plus, Samuel isn’t THAT good.
samuel back to the patriots and move bodden to safety?
As a Browns fan, I know that the dumber it sounds, the more likely it is that the Browns will do it.
Holmgren is looking worse and worse each passing week. So of his and Heckert’s draft choices are looking incredibly idiotic too: Marecic over Vickers? Cameron Jordan when you have three TEs that can start already on the roster? And now Hardesty over Hillis??
Then there is the matter of Holmgren’s “handpicked” franchise QB Colt McCoy.
And don’t get me started about Pat Murmur. His team is so much worse than Mangini’s Browns were. He ran Rob Ryan out of town and then Jauron’s defense got caught napping against the Bengals opening day. He ran Brad Seeley out of town and the Browns new man at punter went out and had a nervous breakdown on opening day. Then the Browns gave up not one but 2 special teams TDs to the Raiders after having a bye week to prepare for Oakland.
Fire all of them before they make the Browns so unlikeable that fans actually want the team to move again.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAND we have a winner!! No trades today folks. Nothing to see here – move along.
Dallas won’t be in play for Asante, that’s for certain. The only trade options are LBs, DEs and DTs according to the iggles and there is NO WAY Dallas is trading any veterans (except maybe Brooking) at those positions right now. I could see JJ going for it with draft picks, but since that’s off the table so are the pokes.
Hillis, on the other hand, might be in play. JJ is a known lover of all things arkansas and that’s where Hillis hails from, plus the injury to the other razorback (Felix) opens a need.
I for one think neither are needed. What IS needed is for the pokes to put a gag on JJ at the end of games and to start giving Tanner some carries. He’ll provide more of a powerful between-the-tackles attitude the cows need right now.
According to ESPN Insider, Peyton Hillis and conditional picks are being traded for Asante Samuel. Peyton Hillis will play linebacker on the Eagles and will “start after the bye week, assuming he his healthy enough to play. We are excited about this opportunity and feel it will solidify our linebacker corps.”
Hillis has more value to the Browns than he would with anyone else. If they traded him, he’d immediately be moved to fullback. I could see a Dallas connection (with Jerruh and Hillis both being connected to Arkansas) and Dallas’ inconsistencies at the HB position this year.
The Eagles should trade Andy Reid and Juan Castillo to ESPN for Jon Gruden.
Don’t know why my fellow Lion’s fans are saying Samuel. We have one of the top secondaries this year. We don’t need help in our secondary at all.

As a fellow Browns fan, that sounds pretty much dead on.
Too bad Josh McDaniels isn’t still the coach in Denver. Maybe he’d take Hillis back in trade for, oh, I don’t know… their next nine 1st round picks or something…
For everyone that downed me on my previous post where I said the Lion’s don’t need to add to their secondary. Look at the stats, they’re 6th overall in passing yards allowed/game. That means they’re better than 26 other teams in passing defense.

So the queens should trade away draft picks for another guy over the age of 30? lol ok.
The Cowboys need a RB like Hillis.
Takes you talents to Detroit!!!
Lions don’t need another running back. They will wait until LeShoure returns next year. If anything they need a good blocking fullback to help spring Best into the second level. Hillis won’t want to go back to a role like that after tasting life as the main man.
Why are Bears fans so eager to trade Briggs away?

Comment of the year!
ronnie brown traded to the lions for jerome harrison and a 7th rounder to the eagles! i rather have harrison, brown sucks!
If anyone can get obscene value for Asante, its Philly (See McNabb, AJ Feeley, Kolb) All the dream team bandwagoners will be all fired up again. Doesnt matter, they’ll still stink.
as an Iggles fan…
I would love nothing more than Asante on the Cowboys’…
Then we could run sweeps/draws/screens to that side of the field all day!
The last few times the Iggles and ‘girls played it was the gameplan to make Asante tackle…
And it worked!
I would cut Asante if I was my Iggles brass..
I would trade him for a ham sammich.
Go Eagles.
Sht, there goes another Browns jersey!
If the Browns trade Hillis ima burn down their stadium.
Shurmur calls a bunch highschool slants, and plays Hillis like its a preseason game.
Holmgren please coach the Browns we need your smarts!
Shurmur is worse then the man genius.
