Five weeks ago, when the Dolphins last played at Sun Life Stadium, the Dolphins and their sponsors purchased more than 10,000 unsold tickets in order to allow the loss to the Texans to be televised locally.

On Sunday, the game against the Broncos will be televised locally, with the team buying far fewer tickets.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will announce that the game will be sold out, via the team’s guarantee of a sellout. Which means that the Dolphins and their sponsors will be purchasing any unsold tickets.

But thanks to the celebration of the Florida Gators 2008 national championship team, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has helped sell, per Salguero, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 tickets. In all, 10,000 tickets have been sold since the much-criticized promotion was announced in August. At one point, as many as 28,000 tickets were unsold.

The Dolphins are 1-11 in their last 12 home games. Since December 2009, the Steelers, Texans, and Patriots have each won twice at Sun Life Stadium.
