Dez Bryant: “It may sound crazy, I think we are unbeatable”

Dallas Cowboys v New York Jets Getty Images

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant has a very high opinion of his team.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Bryant said this week that he does not believe the Cowboys can be defeated.

“As far as the team, I like our chances. I feel like, it may sound crazy, I think we are unbeatable,” Bryant said.

One small data point that would argue against Bryant’s claim is that the Cowboys have already been beaten three times this season. But Bryant says the Jets, Lions and Patriots didn’t beat the Cowboys. No, the Cowboys beat themselves in those games.

“I think the losses, we lost those games ourselves,” Bryant said. “I feel like once we get back in that meeting room and regroup, and we learn from our mistakes, the sky’s the limit.”

So the Cowboys aren’t really 2-3. They’re really 5-0, it’s just that three of those five wins were games they won for the other team. Or something.

In any event, with the Rams coming to town on Sunday, the Cowboys can probably count on being unbeatable for at least one game.

2-3 is not “unbeatable” Dez….glad you used that free education you got at Okla St…..oh wait….

Honestly he is right. Not just cuz im a Cowboy fan but look at the games. They had the Jets beat and Int’s and bad playcalling blew it. 23 point lead to Lion’s and Int’s and bad play calling again. Held the Patriots in check all game and chooseing to run at the end on all 3 downs gave the patroits the ball for the winning drive.

They should be 5-0 but there not. You a hell of a talent Dez but maybe if you learned more about routes you could actually help us win in the 2nd half instead of disappearing.

If I were a fan of the Cowboys, which I am not, this is exactly what I would want to hear from my players.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with a player saying that he thinks his team will be great if they prepare better and learn from their mistakes.

And where does he say in his comments that the Cowboys are 5-0?

  7. gallaghedj311 says: Oct 22, 2011 9:51 AM

God I hope they win. It’ll make for a much easier win next week when they play Philly

  8. heartinboston says: Oct 22, 2011 9:51 AM

He must be drinking the same Kool-aid that Jerry Jones was when he said after the Jets game, “This may draw a little criticism, but I thought Tony played one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play.”

In case anyone forgets, Tony threw for 342 yds. and 2 TD’s. Right after which he fumbled at the 2 yard line and threw a pick to lose the game.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Jerry Jones might have hit the nail on the head. That may be the best Tony can play. Thats why they never win in the playoffs.

I’ve been saying this for weeks and anybody that has watched every Cowboys game this year and isn’t biased against the Cowboys knows it’s true, as well. Of course they’re beatable as is every team in the league, but they have had every team they’ve played this year on the ropes and just have not been able to figure out how to land the knockout blows. When those blows start landing, watch out.

  15. jmanorgc says: Oct 22, 2011 9:54 AM

Unbeatable??…when Dez shows up after halftime…Romo stops giving away games…the run game manages to actually pound the ball…and Rob Ryan shuts his piehole…then maybe.

    Until then…7-9 at best!!

  19. PFTiswhatitis says: Oct 22, 2011 9:57 AM

Pretty sure Tom Brady beat you last week. That last drive was perfection and your team was unable to do anything about it. Have fun WINNING the Charlie Sheen way, Dez.

  20. darocnessmonsta says: Oct 22, 2011 9:59 AM

Dez Is right and if you haters put aside your hate for the cowboys and go back and watch the games we lost on NFL rewind he is totally right we have beat ourselves in all the games we lost each game they had the lead and chance to win but bone head plays and turnovers are the reason they are 2-3 not 5-0!!!!

  21. edhochuli says: Oct 22, 2011 10:03 AM

I love my Cowboys, and he’s kind of right. Against the Jets and Lions, Tony Romo beat the Cowboys. He was the opposing teams MVP in both games. Lions players caught as many TD passes from Romo as they did from Stafford. But ummmm…they got beat by Brady last week. Great game though, no doubt.

Seriously can this team ever play a game that isn’t decided by 4 points or fewer? Wtf?

  22. turbodog1027 says: Oct 22, 2011 10:04 AM

Wow, Dallas fans are just as delusional and borderline retarded as their players. It doesn’t matter how you lost the games, you lost them. Every team that loses every Sunday can use the excuse that they beat themselves. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, but didn’t. 2-3. Very beatable.

  60. thejuddstir says: Oct 22, 2011 10:54 AM

These cowboy fans just don’t “get it”…..a loss is a loss is a loss and 3 losses out of 5 is indicative of something…….you’re not unbeatable. Every team in the NFL could make the same stupid statements that cowboy fans are claiming when their team loses. “We beat ourselves” “When we get all 3 phases working” “when we quit making mistakes”, yada yada yada. If any team in the NFL “could” play flawless football in all 3 aspects of the game, anyone of them could go undefeated but the reality is that it seldom happens. The cowboys may have led the Pats and the Lions but guess what, their defense fell apart and their offense turned the ball over…..it’s all part of the game. The “what if’s and “if this wouldn’t happened” excuses are just that, excuses. Don’t try to convince other fans of how your boys could be “undefeated”, try be honest with yourselves and recognize the weaknesses of your team.

He WOULD have a point if avoiding big mistakes and taking advantage of the ones the other team makes weren’t every bit as much a part of the game as handing the ball off to a RB. In actuality, no team is unbeatable. The teams that are referred to as unbeatable, however, all share one major trait: they avoid making a lot of dumb mistakes. Bryant’s comment reminds me a lot of all the talk about Cam Newton right now. Every one is going on and on about how many yards he’s put up, but they seem to be overlooking all of the INTs he’s thrown to go along with it. The Panthers would have a better record right now if Cam threw for fewer yards and stopped turning the ball over so much. The young man has potential, but he really needs to devote himself to things like studying defenses if he ever wants to reach it. Same is true of the Cowboys. They can have all the talent in the world (they don’t, but if they did), but if they don’t stop messing up it won’t matter.

I grew up a Cowboys hater as a Packers fan living in Wisconsin.

Now, I live in the Dallas area and while I still don’t like the Cowboys, I’m bombarded with Cowboys news.

Dez Bryant may have taken this a little too far, but I don’t think it’s wrong to believe the Cowboys could very easily be 5-0 right now. The boys have been their own worst enemy this season, but that’s what separates good and bad teams. Ask a Viking fan and they’ll tell you that they believe in their heart that their team could’ve been 5-0, too.

Dallas isn’t a team I’d want to face in the playoffs even with Romo’s meltdowns the fear is for that one game maybe he wouldn’t.

  68. som1com says: Oct 22, 2011 11:13 AM

Dez, that probably did not sound so crazy when it was just rattling around in your head, but once you let the words flow out of your mouth, yeah, you’re right, it does sound crazy.

And, I don’t know why you are using the word “we”. Seems like you pack it and go home at halftime. Just try to play a complete game for once this year. Then maybe, just maybe, you can do a little trash talking.

Not! Just keep your mouth shut and do your talking on the field!

I believe many of you understand what I’m about to explain, but more of you won’t. For the record, I think a good number of folks in the media understand this already: Comments such as this from Dez Bryant drive controversy, page hits, ad revenue….. with me? That being said, neither the Cowboys, their owner or their coach give a crap what any of us think, ultimately. Maybe Dez cares, not sure (he’s not a genius with the media). That being said, if I were coaching the Cowboys, I’d be please at Dez’s mindset, I really would. I am not a Cowboys fan, I’m a Buccaneer fan. I have played the game as well as coached. “Statistics are for losers” means different things to different people. Crazy, hit-inducing comment from a media perspective, but “the past is in the past, it can’t be changed, so all that matters is the NEXT game” is ultimately the reasoning. Again, the coach that can foster this attitude, this feeling that us FANS and outsiders might believe is CRAZY, is a WINNER. He is doing his job to perfection. Being able to create this confidence is what allowed a Bucs team drubbed 48-3 come out and beat the Saints, who many were calling the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NFL this year. To truly understand this, down at an almost primal level, you have to have been or be intimately associated with the GAME as a player, coach or both (at some level). Any of you who have played the game or coached the game at any level know what I mean. I have coached a team that was undefeated in the regular season, but failed to maintain the proper attitude for my team and ultimately it was on ME that they lost the last, most important game as we faced the team that just barely made it into the playoffs (their coach was the BEST coach that year). Next season? No team ever assembled could defeat us, ever. Period. Believe. Honestly, not all the Cowboys believe this, else they would be undefeated (they certainly have the talent). I want the player that says “nobody can beat us” over the player that says “I think we have a good chance”. Logic has NOTHING to do with it. As a fan, I have the option to point and laugh. Don’t get me wrong, I do plenty of pointing and laughing. This particular story struck me, however, as the Cowboys and PFT are ultimately pointing and laughing at US. As well they should be.

I love this excuse. “Take away all those mistakes we made, we would have won!”.

Genius, that’s how all games are lost. Mistakes on coverages, mistakes on playcalling, etc. Just mistakes. By you. That the other team takes advantage of. That’s how they won. You don’t hear winning teams say “Take away all those good plays we made, and we would have lost!” Mainly because, DUH.

You can’t take away the mistakes and call it a win. Not only is it a stupid comment, but it’s completely disrespectful to the other team.

On a side note, Dez also believes that OJ was innocent,Michael Irvin is an eloquent speaker,, and Tony Romo is a shoo in for the HAll Of Fame.

Dez, Unbeatable means you can’t be beat. Clearly Dallas can be beaten as they have been 3 out of 5 times this year. Part of being “unbeatable” is not beating yourselves. It doesn’t matter how you lost……YOU LOST!!

If you think you are unbeatable from hear on out theyn you had better end the season with a 13-3 record and go on to win the Super Bowl. If you don’t accomplish all that then you will be “WRONG”.

I’m guessing at some point in the near future you will be proven wrong.

    Sincerely,
    A New York Giants Fan

When somebody prefaces their statement with “It may sound crazy”…I usually stop paying attention, because the statement usually is crazy.

In this case Dez didn’t disappoint…Bat s&$! Crazy.

Easy to say when you’re getting ready to face a 0-5 team who just lost their starting QB.

I for one expect the cowboys to beat themselves about 4 more times and miss the playoffs again and then they can disapear till ota’s when we get to hear about the all hype team that’s gonna play the jets in the superbowl for three months all over again

  95. ihatesocal says: Oct 22, 2011 1:16 PM

Cowboy fan myopia at its best.

    Uh, guys…

…every team that loses “beats itself” in some way. Be it a turnover or an inability to execute or gameplan. Generally losing teams do things to “beat themselves.” You can explain every bad play, mistake, turnover, missed field goal, bad snap, overthrown ball, underthrown ball, fumble, missed tackle, penalty, bad route, missed assignment as “beating yourselves.” So basically every possible negative outcome in football could be interpreted as “beating yourselves.”

The problem with this line of thinking, however, is that it ignores the superior gameplaning and execution of the team’s opponent, which in the case of the Cowboys has been a major component to their misfortune. For example, Revis jumping that route in the Jets game, knowing the call from the moment they lined up. For every single instance of Cowboy ineptitude, you can point to another instance of their opponents simply being better in that instance.

What if we apply the same reasoning to your two wins? It is pretty obvious right now that the Cowboys aren’t a better team than the 49ers, yet because the 49ers had two massively blown coverages the Cowboys walked out with an OT victory. Did the Cowboys win or did the 49ers beat themselves? By your logic, the 49ers simply beat themselves (and I think that particular game could be the best possible argument for your ridiculous assertions, despite it being your opponent’s miscues and not your own).

    Cowboy fan myopia lives again.

The cowboys aren’t even the best team with a losing record in the division . The Eagles are gonna

Oh lord. Eagles fans have about as much business talking trash about the Cowboys as Redskins fans do. Just shut it before you get blown out with the division on the line and then turn around and get blown out again the following week in the playoffs. Again.

but they have had every team they’ve played this year on the ropes and just have not been able to figure out how to land the knockout blows. When those blows start landing, watch out.

Unbeatable? Look at your record you fool! First off, why are you the only one on your team to spout off? Even your idiot owner isn’t saying too much as of late. Few things here.

    1. You can’t be unbeatable if you QB makes stupid decisions. Even when you were up by 3 scores, he found a way to lose it for you guys.

    2. You have no running game to speak of at the moment so how will you even open up the pass game if you tried?

    3. You are barely a veteran in this league that has yet to be a part of a playoff win let alone a pro bowl, so please don’t act as if you have the right to speak with such confidence.

    4. You have the best team in the league in your conference that could be undefeated (Packers) and if you think you are going to role into Lambeau in January when it is 5 degrees out you better check that ego. The Cowboys will have a hard enough time getting into the playoffs to even think of this scenario though.

Just shut up and become relevent before spouting off. Also, if you can’t even keep Deion Sanders as a mentor, you probably aren’t smart enough to make such bold statements. Clown!!

The unbeatable Cowboys can play the unbeatable Jets in the Unbeatable Bowl on the Toilet Bowl channel.

  104. loytomaki says: Oct 22, 2011 5:41 PM

This is the same attitude every player in the NFL has and SHOULD have. No one goes into any game thinking they are going to loose, and every coach in the league walks into his lockeroom after a loss and says “If we didn’t XXXXXX we would have won.” If you flat out admit that the opposition is better then you and will beat you then why show up?

That said I still cant stand Bryant.

Did Rex Ryan drop a ton of weight, put some time in the sun tan booth and put on a jersey?
