Why was Peyton having Brees sling it the entire game? Bad juju for teams to run up the score like that

Guess Peyton did that to show how horrible the Colts are without him. But somehow I doubt he called any of the Saints plays. PAYTON, who is the Saints coach and not the Colts quarterback, didn't call any of the plays either. That was our offensive cordinator who called the plays. And the weird part is that this is the first game he has ever called plays in a game. If PAYTON would have called plays it would have been a higher score somehow.

this game was the long overdue kharmic payback for the irsay family. And from the looks of it's just the beginning, and in that (almost) brand new $1,000,000,000 + indoor stadium the irony is delicious.

This game is on the record of the indianapolis colts. It is NOT on the record of the BALTIMORE COLTS.

Mr. Manning - I say this out of respect - please hang it up NOW. At your age and with your family medical history you should NOT play any more. You don't owe the fans anything, you don't owe the irsay family anything, but you do owe YOUR family a husband and father who can walk around.

I (and millions of other fans) would HATE to see you sitting in a wheelchair when you deliver your HOF acceptance speech.

Was it just me or did it seem like the Saints were running the score up on the Colts?

It was just you. Brees sat out the whole fourth quarter, and they rarely if ever called a pass play after that. You can't blame the Saints that the Colts can't stop anybody.

At this point I’m just glad that the Patriots are in the AFC. The Saints and Packers can score a ton of points but the Packers are a monster and I don’t see anybody in the NFC beating them in the postseason including the Saints.

The Saints were outplayed by the Packers in their 1st game of the season, at Lambeau, and still had a shot at winning that game. They were in scoring position, but came up 1 play short. The Saints defense is clearly improving, and with their offense doing whatever they want, whenever they want, I doubt the Packers are happy they're in the NFC. The Tampa game, in Tampa, was won by the referees. Between non-calls, and terrible calls, Tampa was literally handed a gift. Anyone who saw that game knows that. The Saints play Tampa again in 2 weeks. They will meet Green Bay again at the end of the season. They will get to rectify both losses. If the Saints are fortunate, they will get to play the worst defense in the NFL, in Indianapolis.

Nothing at all was gained by subjecting the general public to a public flogging such as what the Saints did to a pitiful and embarrassing Colts team. NBC will definitely want to revisit the flex option and try to foresee a mismatch like that a little bit sooner in the season. There were plenty of better games on the table for such a high-ratings program to showcase. I'm sure baseball was happy though.

Why, so we could have gotten the Titans-Texans game for first place in the AFC South, and another beatdown. No guarantees, you can only hope for the best.

For the record, I don't have any problems with the score, or "running it up", despite the negative connotations some people attach to that phrase.

I think they just played hard to 3 quarters, and because the score was so out of reach, only then did they let up. It really is to be expected that a pro team would not stop playing after the half.

I was really hoping for 70. or a record 73.

There have been a few games over the years, where a number of teams could have beaten this record, and last night was one of them. Despite the score, they choose not to run it up even more.

Had they kept Brees in there for another quarter, and kept throwing, does anyone believe they would not have passed 73 points?

There have been a few games over the years, where a number of teams could have beaten this record, and last night was one of them. Despite the score, they choose not to run it up even more.

Had they kept Brees in there for another quarter, and kept throwing, does anyone believe they would not have passed 73 points?

Peyton Manning is not the MVP. Bill Polian deserves a lot of blame for not having a competent back up in place for Manning. This comes down to executive management and coaching. Both poor. They road the Manning horse until it was dead without having anyone else in the stable. Awful. Plus, the Saints did run up the score, but the D has to stop them. No whining. These are paid professionals. Anyone who whines about running up the score in the NFL should stick to HS football.

I dont understand why people are complaining about "running up the score". These are both PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAMS (Well, the only reason the Colts qualify is because they're getting paid to play), if you get your feelings hurt when a team scores tons of points, STOP THEM. I don't want to hear how the Saints are classless for scoring especially considering Brees didnt play the whole 4th quarter. I mean, what would happen if the Saints pulled Brees at half and the Colts came back (miracles do happen) and won. Then we'd be complaining why didn't they keep the foot on the pedal and why this team is so soft.

Hey NBC, please work it out in 2012 somehow where flex scheduling starts earlier in the year. K? thnx

-------------------------------------------------------
Why, so we could have gotten the Titans-Texans game for first place in the AFC South, and another beatdown. No guarantees, you can only hope for the best.

running up the score? So i guess they should have taken a knee on every possession in the second half. If they wanted to run up the score they would have score a 100. They was just playing their game. Not their fault the Colts can't stop a nosebleed. Get rid of that crappy cover 2. Teams know how to attack it. You need a good tight end and a good receiving running back to exploit the middle of the field and the Saints have that. Also you need good corners to cover the receivers and the Colts don't have those either. Scoring on just about every drive is what teams try to do. They didn't run trick plays, do onside kicks or nothing like that. They just lined up and ran plays. Get a clue. As far as no one in the NFC beating the Pats I think the Saints can and Green Bay can. Hell, if the Giants can I know the Saints and Green Bay Packers can. The Pats are not the same since they couldn't videotape the opposing teams anymore. Notice after they got caught doing that they haven't won a Super Bowl since.

Manning is the greatest QB in NFL history.

But, Dungy had already been running the Colts into the ground before Caldwell got his inept hands on them. Their schemes are horrible. They have about 8 different offensive plays. Painter, a "professional QB", can't even call a play and their defense is predictable.

What a bunch of classless fools, i guess thats swamp football to run up the score like that,,

Was it just me or did it seem like the Saints were running the score up on the Colts? Why is there no backlash against them for it? Oooh because they are not the Patriots!
==================================

It's not their fault the Colts can't tackle or cover anybody. Are they supposed to kneel on the ball in the third quarter?

BTW, "classless" is the most misused and overused word on PFT.
