Welcome to a tense Monday in Washington

Washington Redskins v Carolina Panthers Getty Images

One week after suffering the worst loss of Week Six, the Redskins lost convincingly to the one-win Panthers.

This Redskins season is starting to remind us of last season, complete with the quarterback change and growing injury concerns. Washington is waiting to hear back results of an MRI on Tim Hightower’s knee Monday.

ESPN980 reports that the Redskins “strongly believe” Hightower has a torn ACL. Hightower was far more optimistic after the game, but will wait for test results. Receiver Santana Moss also broke his hand and will be out for an undetermined amount of time.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was not pleased about his team’s performance, and let it show on the podium when someone asked who the team’s starting quarterback would be this week.

“Are you joking?” Shanahan tersely asked. “Next question.”

A Rosenthal are you in Washington??? How do you figure it’s a tense Monday in Washington if you’re not here??? I don’ t blame Shanny for his reaction to an idiotic question from an idiotic reporter of course reporters seem to be good at asking the dumb question. Beck played a decent game and wasn’t helped by his receivers dropping passes and the defenses inability to stop the Panthers when they needed there seems to be a problem with 3 and long situations. Beck wasn’t the reason they lost so to ask such an idiotic question well the reporter got just what he deserved…

  4. rexsuperbowl06 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:06 AM

Wow Shanahan you blew the season while you were sitting in first place. If your defense didnt give up a 3rd and 21 to Dallas Rex would have been 4-1 heading into the Panther game and in first place. Let me remind you, when the fans started chanting John Beck’s name the Skins were literally in first place. Rex threw for over 300 yards in games with minimal receivers and a boatload of drops. Half of Rex’s Int’s were his fault the other half were the receivers fault, and even Fred Davis took the blame for two in the Eagle game.
Shanahan your season is over, John Beck will never win a football game and now I doubt Rex even cares to win for you backstabbers.
There is only one stat that matters you idiot Shanahan and that is wins and losses. Rex is way over 500 as a starter in his career and has won a NFC championship and has been to a SuperBowl and Beck has never won a game in a long career. Fans and Shanahan blew this one and I wish you nothing but the worst for the rest of the season and I doubt you win another game. If you can’t even compete with Carolina, your probally the worst team in the NFL. Sad you were in 1st place a week ago! hahahah

Where did all those Skins fans go? You remember those guys who talked sooo tough after they beat the Giants about how they were the “class of the NFC East” and the “tables have turned”. There were guys who were talking Super Bowl! Where are they? Has anyone seen them? Maybe all the Eagles fans who disappeared earlier know where they are hiding! Nothing worse than a cowardly troll. You want to be a fanboy and talk trash when your team is winning, at least be man enough to show up when they are losing.

let me start off by saying two things.

1- Hightower, i hope that dudes alright. never wish injury to anyone.
    2- my eagles still suck.

OK, now. . i would like to laugh at all of the Redskins fans. all of which thought they would win this division OUTRIGHT.. for the past 4 weeks, all we have been hearing is how “great” the skins were.,. how all the “doubters would eat their words” and how “the redskins will win 11 and top the NFC E.”

well, now the redsking have reverted back to their dark red turdish selves. lol,, HAIL , , you bumbs..
i wonder if for the next three weeks we will hear about how jipped the skins are getting, or how lucky every sub.500 team that trounces them got..
    HAIL
can you turds just realize that your team stinks??

  10. dansyndersux says: Oct 24, 2011 10:20 AM

Skisn runs defense has given up close t0 500 yards in three games vs Dallas, Philly, and Carolina.

Time to reset expectations for the season. Clearly qb is not the only glaring defect on this team.

  11. sadie753 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:21 AM

Washington Redskin faithfuls. 2 weeks ago, we were winning the NFC East. Now, we are the worse team? I am as dissapointed as any true Redskin fan, but I will continue to stay on the wagon through the entire ride.

  12. baldeaglejohnie says: Oct 24, 2011 10:22 AM

if anybody was buying these two QBs in the beginning of the year then you got your blinders on. now with the injuries to two of there best skill position players. Skins are in trouble again! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! and it could not happen to be a better guy. Shanahans ego is going to get in his way. hard to win without Elway and TD huh. sorry he looks like a total DH! and having your son work as your OC just seems wrong to me! now we just need Eli And Romo to regress again and we will be coming for the nfc east title again! ! ! ! Go Birds! !

  13. norton20 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:23 AM

Why is asking who the QB is next week a dumb question? They have 2 (which means they really don’t have one). If the answer is so simple hendawg21, then why didn’t the almighty Shanny just say Beck and move on to the next question?

  14. hendawg21 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:26 AM

Yesterday’s loss was not due to QB play it was the lack of playmaking by the defense and dropped passes by the receivers…

  15. str8up12 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:27 AM

“Are you joking?”. That’s what the rest of the league said when you unveiled your QB depth chart at the start of the year.

  16. hendawg21 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:32 AM

Things change week-to-week in the NFL when it comes to running backs. When the Cowboys get to Philly next week, Murray might get shut down. If that happens, what will we make of him then?

Well if you had any football IQ you’d know why that was a dumb question…give me one good reason why that question should’ve been asked? Beck didn’t lose the game and he didn’t have a Grossman day either 4 picks due to bad decisions. Just because a team has two QB’s doesn’t mean you go and ask who the starter is next week UNLESS the current starter really stunk up the joint. The DEFENSE lost that game yesterday for those who have no clue and think every loss is the QB’s fault.

  17. kbv510 says: Oct 24, 2011 10:34 AM

    @rexsuperbowl6

are u troll or are u seriously a rex grossman fan? you do realize that rex grossman never performed when it mattered and that the panthers game wasn’t Beck’s fault right. The defense was barely able to contain the panthers offense giving up 21 straight points. Beck actually gave us a chance to win the game compared to Rex.

In all honesty, did you expect any other result when Grossman and Beck were competing for the starting job? It reminds me of the year Tampa had Byron Leftwich and Luke Mccown competing the whole offseason to see who would take the reigns. As a fan, you could do nothing but watch in horror and hope it ended quickly.

Our offense was the issue every week, even the wins were bad. Yesterday the defense was overpowered for the 1st time, and we’ve caught the injury bug. As far as Beck, I still think it’s better than if we keep McNabb or continued to watch Rex regress…..overall all, we are still acquiring players, to expect a big time team this year is premature. Next draft, a QB, more offensive linemen, another reciever- by the way, where’s Leonard Hankerson???

  29. turgidsen says: Oct 24, 2011 11:44 AM

That wasn’t a stupid question. Shanahan never said that Beck was the QB for the rest of the Season. I do find it odd that when the Redskins get beat that they are just a really bad team. However when the redskins beat someone that team is suffering from a multitude of injuries and thats how the redskins won. Yes the Redskins were in first place and probably should still be there. They barely lost to the eagles even after committing 4 turnovers (two in the redzone) and losing their starting left tackle and left guard. However yesterday they lost to a team that played flawless football .The Panthers were prepared and the Redskins weren’t which is the coaches fault. Bt also give credit to the Panthers .Cam newton is better than I would have thought and his team helped him. They played as a team . And they played well.

Tense day in Washington, yes, because Shanny needs to be lighting into to his team especially the defense for their play. I am still a redskins fan and probably will always be. Am I dissapointed ,yes , will I jump off the Wagon ,no, I leave that type fan to the Dallas Cowgirls.

LOL at the guy with “rexsuperbowl” in his name.

Look, it never mattered who our QB was this year. Shanny knows they aren’t the long term answer and they were only keeping the seat warm for the QB we draft at the top of next years draft.

We just had too many holes to fill in one offseason, so QB got pushed to the backburner.

Shanny did a pretty good job of getting the most value out of his draft picks and FA acquisitions/trades.

The competitive part of our season is over. Too many injuries and not enough depth. Let the young WRs play, see what we have in the young guys on defense.

Next season – we’ll be looking at Dwayne Bowe, we’ll draft a QB 1st round. Also add an ILB, CB, and interior O-lineman.

2013 well be ready for a push.

  41. worldsgreatest says: Oct 24, 2011 12:09 PM

Basically, this is the same collapse that happens every year.

Beck threw two near picks in the first half, one in the second, and got called for an intentional grounding penalty that even Grossman wouldn’t have made. He was terrible the first half. Hopefully he’ll get better, I have faith.

Rex only had one year as a starter under his belt, and it was a terrible year. 50% completion, 35/20 TD ration, under 7 YPA, 5 lost fumbles…and his team still made it to the Super Bowl.

One comment I heard this morning was that London Fletcher was ‘part of the problem’ on defense. Dude has played his heart out for this team, IS the heart of the defense…and you want to run him out of town like you did Portis? Eeesh.

    @rexsuperbowl6:

Take the Rex-colored glasses off, buddy. He rode the coattails of a very good Bears team to his one Super Bowl appearance. Other than that, he has proven to be worse than useless. He didn’t get one single phone call from another team when he was a free agent and that alone should indicate: career-backup status is in his future.

When your team doesn’t have a franchise QB, you need someone who at least won’t lose games for you. Rex threw away all of the comeback chances the defense gave him in the Eagles game, and he was bad-to-awful in the games before that (other than the Giants game — his one shining moment in the sun this year).

Of the two QBs on the Skins’ roster right now, Beck by far gives them the best chance at winning. He is much less careless with the ball and he has the quick feet to scramble out of trouble and make plays for you.

Why is anyone surprised about this? It was clear before that the Washington Redskins had overachieved and it’s CRYSTAL CLEAR now. While it was clear that they needed to move on from Donovan McNabb, it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that they should have replaced him with a better option than Grossman/Beck. The defense can’t stop the run, their quarterbacks can’t quarterback, and now their best receiver is out. Hello top 5 draft pick.

It’s just a matter of time all you haters. I see Giant fan talking smack, and yes Skins fans were excited because we thought we beat a credible opponent in week 1, but now as you can see Giant fan you are as average as the next team in the NFC. Have fun winning the East, and losing in the first round of the playoffs, while we stay patient and allow the new regime to continue to rebuild this team. As for yesterday’s performance, I don’t know if any of you haters have noticed, Carolina has been dominating defenses all season with an incredibly talented rookie (See Green Bay….). As for our QB, it was his first start in 4 years, and it sure looked respectable to me. We still have more games to play, and all the Giant, Eagle, and Cowboy fans need to be reminded that we still have have another game to play. I can’t wait, and I will not disappear win or lose. You are correct, it’s far from a dumb question especially when it comes to MS. I’ll never forget the monumental ego? stupidity? whatever it was…of having a team at 7-5 and in the playoff race and yanking JP for a rookie Cutler in 06. Think they made the playoffs? Nope.

Kyle Orton had the same chances and same team and couldnt get us into the playoffs ..Unless you wathched every game that year of Chicago you have no clue. Im resting my case with Rex had won a Nfc Championship and Has Been To A Super Bowl. You clowns who never have played a sport have no clue what it takes to do that. None of the the wins were 3-0. If I remember right Rex put up 35 on New orleans in the Nfc Championship..How many other qbs in league have done that??? You think its luck? Or he stinks still?? Stinks is todd collins, John Beck types not a guy who is well over 500 as a starter. Wake up and realize stats besides wins and losses are for LOSERS! CASE CLOSED!
