Getty ImagesSaints running back Mark Ingram suffered a bruised heel late in Sunday’s blowout win over the Colts, highlighting one of the biggest problems with using a three-man tailback rotation and having only three active tailbacks on the roster.
But the news is good — or at least not as bad as it could have been — for the Saints. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ingram is day-to-day, icing the heel and taking regular treatment.
There’s a chance he’ll miss Sunday’s visit to St. Louis, a game in which the Saints don’t particularly need the 2009 Heisman winner.
Ingram has 329 yards rushing and three touchdowns in his rookie season, sharing touches with Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas.

What did he trip over the scoreboard?
Chris Ivory!!!
Don’t forget the Saints also have Chris Ivory, last season’s leading rusher who’s available to come off the PUP list and is reportedly fully healthy!
Rest him so he’ll be ready for Tampa next week. Maybe Chris “hammer” Ivory makes an appearance this week. Rested and ready to go.
Big news!!! He hurt it like 12 hrs ago and it’s STILL sore! The players have the day off and probably aren’t even out of bed yet after a late night game, yet he’s listed as “day-to-day”!!!
I’m surprised more Saints players don’t have bruised heels, considering the amount of yards they put up againts the colts.
They will have Ivory back for the rams so he’ll have plenty of time to rest.
Aren’t we all?
Talk about a wasted 1st round draft pick.
BTW, I think that image is of Brees and Ingram is a still from Madden. Creepy.
Why did they bother to draft this guy?
They could have gotten 329 yards out of a free agent draft pick.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Saints but just don’t understand why they moved back into the first round to grab Ingram.
He better play I need him as a bye week filler !!!!!!!!!!!
They have Chris Ivory waiting in the wings.
If you don’t know him from last year he was the Saints leading rusher last year and probably the best pure runner on the team.
.
You saints’ fans are tough. Ingram has played in only six games and you’re killing him. Could you maybe give him a season?

They had no way of knowing they were going to get Sproles and Pierre Thomas has a way of getting hurt every season and Ivory can’t seem to stay healthy either.
Besides, it’ll be nice to have a guy like Ingram down the home stretch when games get tougher. You need a big hammer like that and they haven’t had one since Mike Bell.
They ought to put the Colts team on IR for severley bruised egos
“Why did they bother to draft this guy?”
Because they now have three great running backs. Thomas is back to his old self after having some injury problems, Sproles has been more productive in 7 games than bush was in 5 years, and Ingram provides tough inside running. Well worth the draft pick IMO.
“What did he trip over the scoreboard?”
He can’t claim he didn’t see it. It was lit up.
