Really? Manning better than Brady. Let’s talk abou that when Manning gets his third ring. Oh, wait, that won’t happen, his neck won’t allow. Sorry Colts.

IF RINGS IS THE MEASURE, then Terry Bradshaw is better than Tom Brady.

Thanks for playing.

As much as I respect Peyton Manning, if his neck injury is anywhere as serious as it seems, he should take a long, hard look at retirement.

Is potential paralysis or even death worth the risk just to continue his already HOF-worthy career?

I should think not.

No one should risk all that for anything so immaterial as fame or glory. Both are fleeting, as is life.

Maybe it's time Peyton thought about coaching..

All this suck for Luck and the Colts topic sounds well and dandy but when you crunch some numbers you realize that the Colts are in a really big mess. Manning is scheduled to be paid 28M next year. If they draft Luck they will have to commit at least 10M to him. That puts them at 38M for two players. The salary cap thi year is 120M, say it stays the same for 2012 or increases 10%, the Colts woud pay about 30% of their cap to two players, one of which would not be a starter. Manning will not renegotiate his contract so that he can see his succesor get the $$$. Luck will certainly not take less than the pick 1 usually gets (especially with the type of hipe that surrounds him).

If they get the first pick they will face a decision of either go with Luck and cut Manning (I dont see that happening) or tank their team even more by drafting him and not being able to spend money in free agency.

This whole thing comes down to he Polians incompetent management. They created this mess, and made it worse by paying Manning while not knowing about his health issues. Manning played it right for him, cared about himself and the money but he gives a rat's ass about the team. If I was a Colts fan I'd have one more reason to be pissed at Manning beyond those intereptions in key games over the years. Mark my words, Luck will not go to indy as long as Manning is in town

For anyone who believes that missing one man – Peyton Manning – is the reason for this horrible season, take a look at the first part of this score; not the 7, I can understand that having something to do with no Manning.

I’m talking about the 62 part.

Can’t hang that on not having Peyton Manning. Granted, a Manning-led offense would have kept the Colts defense off the field and resulted in a lower score for the Saints, but come on, 62 points on the Colts defense?

REALLY????

That’s not on Peyton Manning being out, that’s on a horrible defense, one which hasn’t even lost many players, for the most part.

Caldwell is being exposed for all the flaws that Peyton Manning masked for him.

__
No matter how hard you loser Patriot fans try, Peyton Manning will ALWAYS be better than Tom Brady.

Draft Luck and he can sit and learn behind Manning for a couple of years. Ask Curtis Painter how that plan works out.

----------------------------------

There's a difference. Painter wasn't brought in to learn from Manning and be the future. He was brought in to be the guy they went to in garbage time at the end of the year. The Colts draft Luck to eventually take over for Peyton Manning, like the Packers did with Aaron Rodgers for Brett Favre. Andrew Luck is considered a can't miss prospect right now, where most people didn't even know who Curtis Painter was when he was drafted. Let him sit behind Manning and learn until Manning is ready to step aside.

I think a lot of people here are overlooking the fact that the Colts defense has been decimated by injuries. Add to that an inexperienced starting quarterback who can't keep his offense on the field in a hostile environment and you have a blowout on your hands.

Do NOT forget, the Colts could have just as easily beaten the Chiefs, the Stealers, and the Buccaneers. They're really not as bad as their record suggests, although this was most definitely a low point in the franchise.

Why doesn't anybody get the correlation that when the Colts got to the Super Bowl, Polian ran off all of his experienced scouts, put his kid and his kid's friends in charge. That way he could take credit for everything and there was no-one there to dispute his claims. Polian has always sucked as a talent evaluator. He had good experienced scouts in Buffalo and had them in Indy till he ran them all off in 2007 and they sucked in the draft ever since.

The belief all along is Manning ran this team. Just show the mental part of the game with Manning not their the team is lost. Caldwell has always looked as if he had no control of the situation, he has made some chin scratching decesions in many games. To get whiped as bad as last night is way worse than Miami getting beat as they did. So how long does Caldwell stay?

I hate the idea of keeping lame duck coaches, so I think the Colts should fire Jim Caldwell's corpse and continue with an interim assistant. (How about Manning, haha).

This year should be used for evaluation purposes. Figure out which direction you want to go as an organization and which players and personnel are going to fit that going forward. I believe that moving on without the Polians may be in the Colts' best interests, as well as more than half of the roster.

With the "talent" they have assembled they should easily land the number 1 pick.

Draft Andrew Luck, keep Peyton Manning. This is an offensive driven league. Don't trade Luck for picks, keep him. How much does it matter what teams like the Patriots, Saints and Colts (before this year) have on defense? A dominant QB is 50% of a championship team! With Manning overseeing Luck's development he will be a machine by the time Peyton is ready to retire or move on.

The Colts are going to draft Luck no matter what if they get the 1st overall choice coming out. You don't pass on a franchise QB when your current starter is a big question mark to be effective when he returns (if he returns).

Ask the Miami Dolphins what's it's like trying to get a replacement for Dan Marino.

IMO The Polians should have been fired a long time ago. They have a history of failed/subpar first and second round picks that have been crippling a franchise with arguably the best QB to ever play the game. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have a smart front office around them; Peyton has done it all himself. To prove my case I give a couple pieces of evidence: Joseph Addai, Anthony Gonzalez, Donald Brown, Jerry Hughes, the 2011 secondary (why let go of Kelvin Hayden and Justin Tryon? Came back to bite them, big time). I understand that they've found some nice players in later rounds but no franchise can afford to miss big on first round picks four times in four shots like that. Addai might not be a 'miss' per se but he's been mediocre at best.

As for Caldwell, that timeout taken in the Jets playoff game was the final straw for me. It let the Jets win the game and was 100% illogical and unexplainable.

As for those of you crowning Andrew Luck and saying Peyton Manning is done, that's ridiculous. Let Luck play a down before he's anointed- and I would bet my mortgage on Peyton Manning coming back to the league and being better than ever before. Drafting a QB to be your franchise guy for 10-15 years makes perfect sense, but that doesn't equate to Peyton being done as QB just because it 'fits', let's not be crazy.

I don't think Manning would have won this game for the Colts, but he sure would have made it closer. The Colts passed for 97 yards last night. They had 3 turnovers. It's tough to stay in a game if you can't move the ball. The Saints had the ball for 38:19 compared to 21:41 for the Colts. The offense is a major problem for the Colts because they don't keep the defense off the field.

I think the Colts will end up being the worst team in the NFL when it's all said and done. I think the best thing they can do is draft Andrew Luck and have him sit behind Peyton Manning for a few years and learn from probably the best QB of our time, if not all time. Then when Manning is ready to walk away from the game or the Colts, Luck steps in and takes over like Rodgers did in Green Bay, which seemed to work out for him.

Here's a look at the Manning effect as through the years of Polian:

	Indianapolis Colts
	Pro Bowlers - 13
	Super Bowls 1-1
	Playoffs 9-10
	Years 99-00, 02-08, 10
	Rounds
	Best 1st (7)
	Worst 4th/7th (0)

1997	OT Tarik Glenn California 1st (19)
LB Bertrand Berry Notre Dame 3rd (86)
1998	QB Peyton Manning Tennessee 1st (1)
1999	RB Edgerrin James Miami 1st (4)
2000	LB Marcus Washington Auburn 2nd (59)
2001	WR Reggie Wayne Miami 1st (30)
2002	DE Dwight Freeney Syracuse 1st (11)
2003	TE Dallas Clark 1st (24)
	        DE Robert Mathis Alabama A&M 5th (138)
LB Cato June Michigan 6th (198)
2004	SS Bob Sanders Iowa 2nd (44)
2006	RB Joseph Addai LSU 1st (30)
	        S Antoine Bethea Howard 6th (207)

I think it's clear the Colts should move on. Polian hasn't found a good young star in years and the team is clearly outmatched without Manning. New coach and gm. Could they cajole Tom Moore perhaps?

For anyone who believes that missing one man - Peyton Manning - is the reason for this horrible season, take a look at the first part of this score; not the 7, I can understand that having something to do with no Manning.

I'm talking about the 62 part.

Can't hang that on not having Peyton Manning. Granted, a Manning-led offense would have kept the Colts defense off the field and resulted in a lower score for the Saints, but come on, 62 points on the Colts defense?

REALLY????

That's not on Peyton Manning being out, that's on a horrible defense, one which hasn't even lost many players, for the most part.

Caldwell is being exposed for all the flaws that Peyton Manning masked for him.
