Seattle didn’t have many highlights in Sunday’s dreadful 6-3 loss to Cleveland. And Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is angry that the one play that would have been a highlight was called back on a penalty that Carroll says shouldn’t have been called.

Leon Washington returned a punt for an 81-yard touchdown that could have won the game for the Seahawks, but Kennard Cox was called for a block in the back. Carroll thinks the officials botched that one.

I didn’t think that was a call that should have been made,” Carroll said. “That was unfortunate.”

Carroll said that in the heat of the moment on the punt return, the officials threw a flag when there was minimal contact and it should have been allowed to go.

“There’s a lot of calls that happen at light speed out there that are challenging to call, and that was one,” Carroll said. “Unfortunately it was the play of the game for us. It was our touchdown in this game, and it got away from us.”

So the Seahawks’ special teams lost their touchdown and Carroll isn’t happy. Now he needs to turn his attention to fixing an offense that failed to get into the end zone and averaged 2.7 yards a play against the Browns.
