To no surprise, Redskins running back Tim Hightower has been placed on injured reserve, after tearing an ACL against the Panthers on Sunday. To some and/or a lot of surprise, the Redskins also have placed tight end Chris Cooley on injured reserve, ending his season.
Cooley had been battling a knee injury. He suffered a broken index finger on October 16, and he was expected to miss six weeks.
Earlier in the season, he passed Jerry Smith to become the Redskins’ all-time leader in receptions by a tight end, with 428.
Given the emergence of Fred Davis, the next question becomes whether Cooley will catch a 429th pass.
UPDATE 5:16 p.m. ET: The Redskins have explained to PFT via email that Cooley was placed on injured reserve due to his knee, not his finger.
