As a Dolphins fan of over 40 years, I can honestly say it has never been as disheartening and embarrassing to be a fan of this team than it is right now.

Many are to blame: some players, some coaches, the GM, and most importantly, the owner.

Huizenga started the slide and Ross is taking it to a whole new level of ineptitude. While he may be staying out of most of the football decisions, he needs to see what is happening and correct it. Failure to do so makes him a horrible owner. Hire guys that understand the game rather than rely on familiar people that are unqualified or, at a minimum, are no longer competent. His handling of Sparano back in January was dismal and a low point in franchise history that could only be surpassed by a winless season. That was bush-league, and it seems as if it may be happening again.

The perception of Ross is that he cares more about celebrities than putting a winning team on the field. That may be a little unfair, but his actions only add to that perception. At least he is not afraid to pay a few players. Now, if only he had the guile to hire a football staff that is capable of recognizing, acquiring and coaching real football talent.

Not so fast -- if you Google "Pete Rose Day" and "New York Mets" you'll find:

April 15, 1979 Shea Stadium
Philadelphia Phillies 6, Mets 3
AP from Queens
May 8, 2003
This was an Easter Sunday DH. My friend and I took the bus and walked over the Roosevelt Ave. Bridge as usual. In the upper deck a Phillies fan named Howie started talking to us. And he never stopped talking for 2 games. He was nuts but knew a lot about the Philly sports scene. He did a great Harry Kalas imitation. He really entertained us. We always looked for him again but never met up "Howie Phillie" again.

This was "Pete Rose Day" They gave out pictures of his record breaking hitting streak swing from the prior year at Shea.

This time the disgraced Rose was taunted by the Shea crowd. Most of the pictures got torn up and scattered on the field. There were loud chants of "Pete Rose Sucks"!!.

john m
August 20, 2004
Easter Sunday. Cold drizzle through the whole doubleheader - Phillies in control the whole day. My brother and a friend of ours sat in the upper deck freezing until the last inning - naturally we missed 3 run homers by Schmidt and Mazzilli...also missed Easter Sunday dinner with the family, who forgave me. My friend I believe caught whoopass bronchitis or pneumonia and missed the next week of school - I think he also forgave me...don't know what happened to the Rose photos - but honoring an opposing player (a mere 6 years after he fisted Bud in the playoffs) while his team is sweeping a doubleheader, well, that just typified the late 70s era

Sadly, it's true.

Dear Dolphins Players,

Before you criticize Dolphin fan for the Suck for Luck campaign why don't you show up and put forth a mans effort at your job! Dolphin fan has NOTHING to cheer for as everyone on the planet is questioning your ability, effort, and your heart.
Why don't you man up go to work so that your fans can enjoy something besides an expectation of just another Sunday loss. The team is uninspired, uncoached, unmanageable, and now unwatchable which works well because given the current trend will likely be blacked out the rest of the year.

If you were really upset about something then you would be upset about watching your own game film on Monday's when you realize that you truly are Sucking for Luck, the rest of us are just applauding your efforts!

It was so bad sunday, I almost had to kick some of my friends out of my house because they were rooting against the dolphins because of luck. I have friends rooting against the dolphins who are Dolphins fans. I have people in my home stadium rooting against my team because we are honoring the other quarterback? Why Stephen Ross? Why? You have run this franchise that had the highest winning percentage in all of sports 7 years ago into the F’ ing ground . I thank you and Bill Parcells for NOTHING

-------------------------------------------

This post deserves 5 thumbs up. It really says it all.
I am a Jets fan and have been for 15 years. Two years ago I was trash talking back and forth all season with friends who are Miami fans. Now, they are barely watching football...they can't put their hearts into it. It's crushing them that their team's owner has let this once proud organization fall apart. How can anyone with a shred of professionalism let his corporation sink to this??

Back in the 1970′s the Mets, who were barely a functioning franchise at that point, held a “Pete Rose Day” at Shea......
-------------

Can you be more specific? I don't remember Pete Rose day at Shea. Mets were functioniong well in 73 when they went to the World Series. They beat the Reds that year and Pete Rose and Bud Harrelson got into a fight at second base. Rose played with the Reds until 79 when he then joined the Phils.....so I don't think the Mets were honoring him in the 70's bro. This is some made up stuff.

The spectacle of the whole Tebow thing was fun to watch as an outsider. But I'm thankful to know it would never happen at Heinz Field--or at Bryant-Denny Stadium where my Crimson Tide play. It was horribly disrespectful to the Dolphins players, to diehard Dolphins fans, and to the Hurricanes for whom that stadium is home.

As a Fla. girl, I found it a little odd because that's not really Gator country--although it appears Tebow's faithful traveled well. But I don't care how desperate you are to sell tickets or how much your team is struggling, that's just not something you do. My sympathies to the Fin fans on being stuck with such a disloyal owner. If Cowher is considering the Dolphins, I hope he thinks long and hard before saying yes. Ross isn't Rooney.

Why? You have run this franchise that had the highest winning percentage in all of sports 7 years ago into the F' ing ground . I thank you and Bill Parcells for NOTHING!

Back in the 1970's the Mets, who were barely a functioning franchise at that point, held a "Pete Rose Day" at Shea. Now the Dolphins, barely a functioning franchise at this point, are honoring teams that have zero to do with them at all. A truly pathetic display. All of this nonsense about tanking games and "suck for Luck" could have been avoided if ANYONE within that organization had even tried to find a legit QB over the last four or five years. The last time Miami had an even halfway decent QB they won 11 games. Why they continuously avoid solving the QB problem is a complete mystery, all they needed to be a .500 team was a normal, competent QB. Sparano takes all the blame but look at the roster the FO handed him, it's a joke. Once again the hallowed "Tuna" skips town with his bag of loot leaving a broken team in his wake.

Yeremiah,
Sorry that you guys got beat by a running back playing quarterback that scored 15 points in the last 3 minutes of the game.
You don't like the Tebow stuff? Then stop him.
You tried, you didn't, you lost.
Stop whining and still saying that he's a running back playing quarterback... that just makes you look even worse, as if being 0-6 isn't bad enough.
These guys just need to shut their mouths with the media. Wanna complain to your coaches and your GM go ahead.... but leave the complaining to yourself.
