Jahvid Best expected to miss another game

Lions running back Jahvid Best may not be out for the rest of the year, but he is likely to miss another week.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Best is likely to miss Sunday’s game against the Broncos.  Best missed practice Wednesday and this decision seems like a no brainer with a Week Nine bye coming up.

A source close to Best tells Birkett that the second-year running back’s headaches have mostly subsided.

Detroit actually ran the ball fairly well without Best against Atlanta, averaging more than five yards-per-carry.  Their passing game — and pass protection — was the bigger problem.

The other backs we have might be serviceable for 5 yards per carry (some games) but don’t have the capability to tear off 80+ yard runs. Get well soon Jahvid!!!

As a Lions fan, I hope he sits this week. I also hope Stafford sits this week. They should be able to beat the Broncos without them. Have them both getting ready for the Bears.

And that will be Denver’s only shot in this game – they have to make Stafford move out of the pocket. He looks very ordinary when he can’t set his feet.

I hope the whole team sits this week. They are going against the mighty Tim Tebow (touchdown jesus)

Just hope this young man doesn’t get permanent brain damage from coming back time and time again from these concussions. Also, why doesn’t this guy have the Mark Kelso helmet on yet?

Probably wont hurt the lions much, Best only has 2 carries of 20+ yards this year. He’s probably not the next Jamaal Charles.

Dont worry Best, you rest. We will handle buisness for you. Tebow isnt the prize bull everyone might think he is. This is a whole other level of a defence. I also agree Stafford should sit also. The band wagon may not be as full, which is what we prefer, but your true loyal fans will never turn our back on our men. Our Roar still Soars. Go Lions

Best will return for the important final 8 games but right now i do not think it hurts the Lions to have their own RB’s pop 3-5 yards per carry and slow down the enemy pass rush and the game.

Even with Best in there against the 49ers, their D was killing Detroit in the run game and the short passing game. Stafford look totally confused. Same as last week. But they had some bites with the play action and both Mo and Williams had nice runs. Williams ran over a lot of DB’s in that game.

Stafford needs to see those D-linemen and LB’s get hammered and tired out and he needs to see less of the 5 DB formations that have cut off his short passing game.

Running a lot of K.Williams at you may not generate big plays, but it will sure open up the play action and force the defense to stay in the 3-4 or 4-3 with safeties coming up to help.

I don’t care if they run from the spread or with Heller in there as a FB. I just think they need to pound it to help Stafford.

take it slow. Not worth rushing coming back.

Personally, I think Maurice Morris has much better vision that Jahvid Best. That’s why Morris was able to get positive yardage. He may not have the second gear that Best has, but I’d rather have 10 play scoring drives than 2 play scoring drives. I want our defense rested when they come back on the field, with the opposing team anxious to score due to our controlling the clock.

All that said, I still like Best on our team, and hope he gets better so he can face Chicago in week 10.

It’s not about his 20+ yard carries, it’s about his effectiveness on those screens and little dinker tosses. He can turn 5 into 30 in the blink of an eye.

It’s hilarious reading the ‘die-hard’ comments coming from Lion Fans ……. As if their season isn’t coming apart at the seams ……

Their last two losses (at home yet) showed how misleading their 5-0 start really was …… If they don’t find a couple more playmakers somewhere on their 53, they’ll be fighting to finish with a winning record ….. Most fans in the know have already dismissed their playoffs chances ……

The offense isn’t going anywhere unless Backus stops letting the defensemen through like a saloon door.

    “…seems like a no brainer…”

    Ouch.
