Ndamukong Suh’s agent says he wasn’t fined this week

Matt Ryan AP

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh picked up a 15-yard penalty for facemasking Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on Sunday, and he easily could have picked up another 15-yard penalty for a post-play shove.

But Suh, who has been on the receiving end of a few expensive fines during his two-year career, is apparently going to escape without this week’s paycheck being touched.

Suh’s agent Roosevelt Barnes told Mike O’Hara of FoxSportsDetroit.com on Thursday that there was no notification from the NFL about a fine. If players are going to be fined, they usually find out by Wednesday.

PFT has asked the league office to confirm whether Suh was fined, either for facemasking or the late hit, and we were told we’d hear back on Friday.

Suh’s previous fines include $20,000 for a hit on Andy Dalton, $15,000 for a hit on Jay Cutler and $7,500 for a hit on Jake Delhomme.

finally suh is not fined and against new england in the preseason he shouldn’t hit the guy on the helmet thats why he got fined after that one thats why i said “tutti frutti oh rudi” because he shouldn’t be rough like that

Suh had 5 tackles and 1 QB hit. Not bad, but not totally awesome. He’s a factor but he’s getting handled reasonably well so far this season.

    leos fan here.

i understand the dalton fine. i understand the delhomme fine. but can anyone please explain the reason for the cutler fine? he shoved him in the back…

  4. scarletmacaw says: Oct 27, 2011 12:11 PM

    Andy Dalton – $20,000, Jay Cutler – $15,000, Jake Delhomme – $7,500.

Apparently fines are based on the value of the QB.

I don’t get the uproar over the shove. Some O-lineman was upset about something, rushed Suh after the play, and got shoved away.

If anything, that O-lineman should be embarrassed he got pushed around so easily.

As to WHY that guy was so angry he charged Suh after the whistle had blown… no one seems to know; or to care. Media is just being lazy and selecting the easy, sensationalist story. Like always.

  6. primetime0552 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:13 PM

The facemask was clearly incidental. He was running around the guard and well still getting blocked threw his hand towards Ryan. Instead of the shoulder he got the facemask. It happens. The shove after the play happens hundreds of times every week in the NFL. I like how Suh is the only one who gets an article about it though. He shouldn’t be fined for either one. Still can’t believe he got fined for pushing Jay Cutler to hard….

  7. bischof21 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:16 PM

Haha got away with a post play shove? Oh you mean the shoves that happen after all most ever play in the NFL? I can’t believe he got away with that. Oh the humanity!

  8. mwojo586 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:20 PM

LOL, 5 tackles and 1 SACK not hit is a pretty good game for ANY D-tackle. Seems to me people expect Suh to put up LB stats. Sorry guys, NO D-TACKLE in the league gets over 10 tackles a game. Knockin a guy who outperforms 90 percent of the rest of the league while double and triple treamed I’d say is pretty spectacular. But then again, your responses make me question whether ot not you guys even watch football. Or atleast the junk you decide to comment on.

So now it’s news when Ndamukong Suh doesn’t get fined?

With all the hype he’s got to get his name in the newspaper some way because those 3 sacks (ranked 41st) and 23 tackles (ranked 175th) this season sure doesn’t justify any media attention.

    Ndamukong Suh is overrated!

  10. suhnami says: Oct 27, 2011 12:21 PM

before everyone goes off on how “dirty of a player” suh is….someone please cite me one individual in the football realm, player, former player, coach, etc. (besides an Atlanta Falcon) who thinks suh is dirty??

the guy plays violent, as the game SHOULD BE PLAYED. This whole story from the Falcons OL and Roddy “whiny” White is BS…the film clearly shows suh is nowhere near ryan when he goes down.

“get the cart”??? who cares…listen to some of the former players and how absurd they think it is that people in today’s game find that offensive or dirty…plus ATL if you have an issue with Suh you had a lot of game time left to voice your opinion to Mr. Suh about it (thank you Tom Jackson).

keep up the good work Mr. Suh

  11. granadafan says: Oct 27, 2011 12:22 PM

You know you’re a dirty player when it’s the exception to the rule that you haven’t been fined.

  12. tecmobowl34 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:32 PM

Suh is another overrated hypester from the Lions. Just like pretty much everyone on that team outside of Megatron.

Win a playoff game (or better yet, just go TO the playoffs) and I’ll give a damn about your squad that talks better than it plays.

  13. semperfi24 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:34 PM

There are certain things these players can control, and certain things they cant. If a player accidentally hits a QB in the helmet while swiping for the ball, it is going to be a penalty, and a fine, but it is understandable. But when you grab a guy and literally slam him to the turf, it is going to be a penalty, and it is going to be a fine, and completely preventable.

At this point, guys like James Harrison, Suh, Wilfork, and countless others, dont get the benefit of the doubt. You can play hard with playing overly violent. Some of the fines for these players is absurd, but some of it is more than warranted. And when you are in the discussion of being a dirty player, you dont get the benefit of the doubt.

Last year Suh gave a vicious hit to a QB going out of bounds, not sure who it was now, been a year since it happened (Lions fans can help me out). It wasnt dirty, and replays showed it was nothing more than a solid football play. But he went after the QB so violently, that he wasnt going to get the benefit of the doubt, it looked like he was trying to kill the guy. those are the types of plays that players can avoid, if they choose not to avoid them, they get a reputation, even if it is undeserved. Suh needs to avoid that for a while, and keep a low profile, or he is going to put a lot of money into the charity fund for the NFL over the next 10 years

  14. m2karateman says: Oct 27, 2011 12:35 PM

Suh is consistently double or triple (yes, triple) teamed each and every game.

But, of course, to those of you who don’t actually watch the games and instead just pull up statistics, he isn’t having a great year. So obviously that means he’s over-rated.

Go out and ask one of the o-linemen who face him if that’s the case. Go out and ask the QBs that get hit by him if that’s the case. Go out and ask the offensive coordinators that game plan for him if that’s the case. Go out and ask any head coach in the NFL and they’ll all tell you the same thing.

“I wish I had him on our team.”

    Over-rated?

    Sure….keep thinking that way.

  15. dohpey28 says: Oct 27, 2011 12:49 PM

He does indeed get doubled team on every play. Suh and Ngata are so far and above any other DTs/NTs it isn’t even funny.

  16. izlez says: Oct 27, 2011 1:12 PM

    @Semperfi24

You did put together a thought out and rational argument, and I respect that, but I have to disagree with you on a few things.

You say on certain plays, he makes legal plays, but he is too violent? Really? I thought this was football, with some of the biggest, strongest guy in the world. And you are going to condemn him for being too rough with them, even though he is playing with the rules on those plays?

Regarding the Dalton and Delhomme plays, there is nothing wrong with slamming a player to the turf, provided he has the ball (which they didn’t on thpse 2 plays)… that is football. I certainly think it’s reasonable on those 2 plays to see how Suh could’ve thought the QB still had the ball, and he was just doing his job. If he’s too rough for the other professional athletes, that is not his problem and there is no reason he should stop doing what he’s doing

  17. hatesycophants says: Oct 27, 2011 1:39 PM

Did you say you asked the league about a specific player being fined for specific plays? Since when is that the function of an objective media? What is the inquiry based upon? Am I the only one who finds this totally inappropriate?

    Go Lions! Go Badgers!

  18. snarkzilla says: Oct 27, 2011 1:46 PM

    Ngata’s tied for 9th, Suh’s tied for 11th, category D line, tackles/assists/sacks combined total.

  20. agelardi says: Oct 27, 2011 2:39 PM

Is it just me or does Suh have more shots to the head & grabs to the facemask than other defensive players?

  21. NakedCowboy! says: Oct 27, 2011 3:00 PM

Suh will one day be in HOF… along with rodney harrison… cortland finnegan and hines ward…

  22. waxedagain says: Oct 27, 2011 3:03 PM

Wouldn’t it be great if the media could be fined for writing dumb articles? Oh not this one…just in general.

overrated?? he is double teamed! Actually watch the games before you make comments.

Who talks? Our players have yet to come out boasting about anything. When interviewed they always state that they havent’ won anything, yet. Don’t blame the players for the media over-hype.

Seriously? He should not hit people in the head?

Just like the players, the NFL has turned its fan base into a bunch of whining babies. Football is a CONTACT sport.. this is not a sissy sport such as Baseball, or Soccer or Basketball…

Everyone on here has made me laugh for a long time when it comes to these posts…

I wonder which is less ethical.

    Suh’s physical style of play

    or

The rapidity with which any post, written with respectful language, that expresses consternation about the quality of the substance of the article is removed from the site.

Im guessing I’ll get blocked soon so it won’t matter.

BTW – I know which is less ethical.
