It looks like Peyton Hillis is out again

Peyton Hillis, Evan Moore, Brian Robiskie AP

Browns running back Peyton Hillis‘ disastrous contract year continues to get worse.

Hillis missed practice again on Friday after suffering a setback to his hamstring injury at Wednesday’s practice, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. He also missed practice Thursday.

At this point, it would be a stunner if Hillis played against the 49ers.  Montario Hardesty figures to carry the load again, only one week after carrying the ball 33 times against the Seahawks.

Ben Watson returned from a concussion to practice Friday, while receiver Mohamed Massaquoi didn’t practice because of a concussion.  It looks like the sluggish Browns offense will be without two of their starters in San Francisco.

UPDATE: Hillis will make the trip to San Francisco and is officially listed as questionable.

Madden Curse???? Should Vick been on the cover instead because he is having a Madden Curse year. Should jamaal charles been on the madden cover due to his AC injury. All of you people who say Madden Curse need to shut up. Its football its a dangerous sport. Heck everyone on the IR should be on the Madden cover if what you guys are implying a bad season is a curse.

  10. trickbunny says: Oct 28, 2011 12:47 PM

Ooh ooh! Any chance I could be the 63rd person to type something about the Madden curse in this thread??

  11. castleofcheese says: Oct 28, 2011 12:52 PM

I called Madden curse on this guy early in the year when his setbacks first started and got hammered with thumbs downs. Glad to see you guys came around…

  12. redbullenergydrink says: Oct 28, 2011 12:59 PM

Madden Cur….. Oh wait, you mean someone beat me to it?

  13. tiffpats4eva says: Oct 28, 2011 12:59 PM

Another casualty of possible HGH testing.

  14. sf49erguy says: Oct 28, 2011 1:01 PM

he seen the 49ers D on the schedule & said I ain’t coming back vs them.

  15. Deb says: Oct 28, 2011 1:04 PM

No more letting fans vote the Madden cover. After this, rivals will use it to target opposing players.

  16. qoojo says: Oct 28, 2011 1:07 PM

The curse hit so hard that it even took out Brandon Jackson.

  17. trollhammer20 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:13 PM

  18. ncsteve83 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:16 PM

First and Second Round picks on my fantasy team:

    Chris Johnson and Peyton Hillis

Sounded pretty good at the time, but here are some names of RB’s with more Fantasy Points this year…..

Michael Bush, James Starks, Ben Tate, Tim Hightower, Mike Tolbert….

I bet you could pay all 5 of them for less then the price of (1) crappy Chris Johnson

  19. bengalsown says: Oct 28, 2011 1:19 PM

Madden curse? Sounds more like a guy with an extreme lack of talent, pouting about getting a new contract, and not working out like he should (and preventing hamstring injuries).

  20. bangitfootball says: Oct 28, 2011 1:19 PM

MADDEN CURSE is especially bad on contract years. Mike Reinfeldt and Chris Johnson have soiled RB contracts for years to come so Hillis shouldnt expect much now anyway.

  21. bears913 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:20 PM

I am not so sure about the Madden curse. Sounds more like he decided to lay off the steroids this season so now he is a lot more injury prone. You see it all the time in all sports when players are suspected to be on steroids and then when they stop taking them they keep getting injured.

  22. dublindemonszfl says: Oct 28, 2011 1:23 PM

    Montario!!!! GAMETIME!!!

  23. wiseguyny says: Oct 28, 2011 1:27 PM

This guy will go back to being a fullback next year. It was fun while it lasted…

  24. radzyfsu23 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:27 PM

    Two words: who. Cares.

  25. willyalistentothis says: Oct 28, 2011 1:30 PM

Well at least Browns and everybody else knows he is not worth a big time, long term contract.

  26. trbowman says: Oct 28, 2011 1:32 PM

It’s a shame Vick didn’t win the cover contest

  27. stuartscottsgooglyeye says: Oct 28, 2011 1:32 PM

The Cleveland Curse trumps the Madden Curse.

  28. nflofficeadmin says: Oct 28, 2011 1:33 PM

    Curse Madden

  29. bangitfootball says: Oct 28, 2011 1:36 PM

San Fran has the number 1 or 2 rushing defense dont they? What a coincidence ? Hillis must be listening to his agent again and is picking his spots to play. Hes gonna be history in Cleveland.

  30. antbanks51 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:37 PM

The real curse here happened when he was traded to cleveland.

  31. marcsasharc says: Oct 28, 2011 1:39 PM

the Browns are gonna need 3 RBs this game. we all know Hardesty wont make it the entire game alive.

  32. captainpunchballs says: Oct 28, 2011 1:39 PM

Anyone who really thinks there’s such a thing as a Madden curse is an idiot.

  33. imopen7 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:41 PM

madden curse? haha…no. cleveland just sux.

  34. dcfan4life says: Oct 28, 2011 1:47 PM

Everyones gonna say Madden Curse when it comes the Peyton Hillis. But lets not forget 2 key things. He is a big bruising back, which means he takes more hits. He also already was put on IR in his career in denver. Injury prone and a big bruising back.

Not madden curse, but instead can anybody say Mike Alstott…

  35. footballjack29 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:48 PM

I hope they never put cam on madden cover…it sucks enough the curse took out peyton

  36. marcsasharc says: Oct 28, 2011 1:51 PM

people that talk about curses, let alone the madden curse have an IQ of <70

  37. firethorn1001 says: Oct 28, 2011 1:56 PM

I haven’t seen someone this cursed since Greg Brady wore that tiki idol when he went surfing.

  38. tatatoothy says: Oct 28, 2011 1:57 PM

  40. das14 says: Oct 28, 2011 2:03 PM

Since it has already been said. I’ll say it in yoda format madden curse he has.

  41. rmm1984 says: Oct 28, 2011 2:03 PM

People really believe in the Madden curse? That’s pretty sad.

  42. ProDolphinsTalk says: Oct 28, 2011 2:08 PM

This guy is SO overrated. Madden Cover? Give me a break. He had one good year and people anointed him the next Larry Csonka.

  43. mezter says: Oct 28, 2011 2:54 PM

The 49ers are going to crush this team.

  44. snarkzilla says: Oct 28, 2011 3:25 PM

Peyton Hillis may have gotten pretty well used up last year, when he saw way more carries than he’s had before.

  45. tooz72 says: Oct 28, 2011 3:33 PM

one year wonder, plus he’s a white RB

  46. quittsburghstoolers says: Oct 28, 2011 3:36 PM

This “curse” seems to happen every time.

I’d tell the players not to be on the cover and to tell John Madden to put himself on it instead.

Of course, if Madden is smart, he won’t do it either.

He’s liable to get run over by his own bus if he does…

  47. jfinn5 says: Oct 28, 2011 3:38 PM

It’s not a Madden curse, he is just a Brown.

  48. mgscott says: Oct 28, 2011 3:40 PM

This has nothing to do with the Madden curse. He’s not playing for a couple reasons. One is it’s obvious that the Browns aren’t going to sign him long term. It would have been done already. Second is that he knows this, doesn’t want to jeopradize his future. Total drama. MH should have traded him.

  49. jfinn5 says: Oct 28, 2011 3:44 PM

    Good for the Niners!

  50. granadafan says: Oct 28, 2011 3:47 PM

Now you know why Packers fans organized the fan base to vote FOR Hillis instead of the much more deserving Aaron Rodgers for the Madden cover.

  51. Spencer says: Oct 28, 2011 3:51 PM

Thank goodness it’s not another case of “strep throat” – he might have had to miss the rest of the season. You don’t want to mess with those sore throats. Thankfully, that danger has passed and now he’s facing a mere hamstring injury.

I’m just glad Hillis has such a great agent to see him through all these missed games.

  52. alaricsrevenge says: Oct 28, 2011 3:54 PM

    Lockout curse??? Nahhhhhhh, it’s Madden.

  53. chocolatebaconbutter says: Oct 28, 2011 4:19 PM

Who is this Madden Curse everyone talks about? Is he the backup? He must be a beast. I should go buy his jersey.

  54. rcali says: Oct 28, 2011 4:19 PM

Cleveland would like to put Art Modell and Lebron James on the cover of Madden.

  55. paulbrownsrevenge says: Oct 30, 2011 11:52 PM

Holmgren sold Cleveland out. This is his 5 year step to a retirement check. He really doesn’t care about the Cleveland Browns or their fanbase.

He sold us out by hiring Shurmur as our head coach, the guy has taken none of what we had going for us last year (hillis ground game) and is trying to make Colt McCoy into Tom Brady. Good luck.

Jauron has done a fine job with the defense in only one year with a pair of rookies starting on the line.
