With Ingram out, Saints will activate Ivory

The enviable depth of the Saints backfield will show up in St. Louis on Sunday.

For most teams, losing a first round pick at running back would be a big blow. The Saints will still roll out Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas to lead the way against St. Louis, and that should be more than sufficient for this week.

The Saints announced Friday that Mark Ingram is out, but they also will activate Chris Ivory off the PUP list for depth. Ivory had some nice moments as a rookie last year while leading the team in rushing and averaging 5.2 yards-per-carry.

Ivory has been battling a heel problem this year, but he will be an option in short-yardage situations. The Saints could also use him as a “closer” if the game gets out of hand.

Ivory was a beast last year. I have no idea why he didn’t earn this year’s starting job.

Oh, I forgot – he was undrafted and played at Hofstra, so he can’t possibly be good…..

“if the game gets out of hand.”

You mean “when the game gets out of hand,” right?

@trbowman Did you not read the post? He was on the PUP. Ivory was indeed a beast last year, although he could not stay healthy. If he didn’t have durability problems the Saints might not even have drafted Ingram.

Ivory will get hurt after three games. Love the guy, his attitude and punishing style…but he canot stay healthy. Never been able to in his career.

Ivory didn’t play at Hofstra. Marques Colston did.

Ivory played at Tiffin (Ohio). Nate Washington came from there as well.

Are you crazy? Chris Ivory played for the WSU Cougars, you remember they were the #1 winningest team about a decade ago?

Ivory is a one man bulldozer. The guy, I would go out on a limb and say is probably the most violent runner in the NFL.

That is the problem. He is two violent for his own body. He can’t stay healthy 2 games in a row because a human body can’t take rolling over every would be tackeler in your way. He needs to learn to avoid contact when he can and make it only when he has to.

He is a great player but let’s see if he can make the whole game.

Yes, until he was kicked out and had to attend Tiffin.

oh my god, who cares where he went to college?

Of course! Can’t just roll with 2 rb’s. Best part is the fullback, can’t think of his name, will get the goal line TD’s.
