Tom Brady, Dan Marino, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Montana - awesome career starts
Some others not so much.
Tim Tebow 48.1% complete, 9 TD’s 4 Int, 78.7 rating through 5 career games
Other 1st seasons of between 6 and 16 starts:
John Elway 47.5% 7-14-54.9 rating
David Carr 52.5% 9-15 62.8
Eli Manning 48.2% 6-9-55.4
Kyle Orton 51.6% 9-13-59.7
Ryan Leaf 39.0% 2-15-39.0
Donovan McNabb 49.7% 8-7-60.1
Terry Bradshaw 38.1% 6-24-30.4
Vinny Testeverde 47.6% 13-35-48.8
Peyton Manning 56.7% 26-28-71.2
Will Tebow be the next Ryan Leaf, David Carr, or John Elway? I don't know, but there have been some horrendous career starts of players that at least ended up as competent career QB's. Tebow's play so far has been better than many of those.

Let me make two things clear: 1. I am not a Broncos fan, I am an Eagles fan 2. I am not necessarily a Tebow fan, I'm a "whoever is QBing for the Eagles" fan. So that being said...

Yes Tim Tebow...when he wins one, Gregg Easterbrook of ESPN writes that he doesn't "do it alone" yet when he loses one, its "all Tebow's fault". Tebow couldn't buy a break from some of these pseudo-sportswriter hacks if he were a solar panel company donating to the Obama campaign! So for fun I've compiled a list of some well known QBs and the stats of their 2nd career starts...yet none of them had to undergo the abuse this kid is taking in Denver:

Peyton Manning 21 of 37 188yds 1TD 3 INT 2 sacks and 1 Fumble LOST - lost game to New England
Tom Brady 12 of 24 86 yds 0 TD 0 INT 4 sacks 2 fumbles LOST - lost game to Miami
Brett Favre 22 of 39 289 yds 2TD 0 INT 5 SACKS 4 FUMBLES LOST - won vs CIN
Dan Marino 12 of 22 150 yds 1 TD 1 INT 1 Sack - Lost vs New Orleans
John Elway 18 of 33 193 yds 1 TD 2 INT 3 Sacks - Lost to my Eagles (we only won 5 games that yr)
Joe Montana 21 of 37 252 yds 2 TD 2 INT and 2 Sakcs - Lost to LA was benched for the next game

Only one of these hall of famer/future hall of famer quarterbacks did anything of significance this early in their careers and that was Favre but that performance was sandwiched by a couple of stinkers...so don't get too happy about him.

Yet despite this widely known fact only one quarterback is being attacked like he was the biggest loser of all time EVEN BEFORE HE STEPPED ON THE FIELD...and that is Tim Tebow. A person bold enough to declare that he is a conservative Christian - two things HATED by the media and Michael Silver, the San Francisco liberal sportswriter of Yahoo in particular. Religious bigotry has no place in sports at ALL...however, I'm quite aware that religious bigotry (particularly against conservative Christians) has found a major place in the media so I'm not really surprised. Clean up your act ESPN and Yahoo, a player deserves the same treatment during the learning curve that every other player gets.

Did some of you pay attention to the game.specifically the overturned TD he had both feet in but he didn't have "possession" of the football. If he didn't cradle ball and grabbed it with his hands it would've been upheld. And yes there are no excuses for tebows lack of QB skill but how do you expect any QB to be able to make those quick reads with all the pressure on him. Not to mention his mechanic's are ridiculous. It I takes most "elite" less than a half second to release ball Tebow takes alot more than that. Quinn isn't signed for next year so just suck it up and play the savior.......now I will do my TEBOW-ING

As Ive said for the past two weeks by veterans day you will hear the mob calling for the Broncos offensive coordinator Mike MCcoys head .

Tebow is not a NFL QB right now and the playcalling is making it worse.Orton wasnt a bad QB but the predictable playcalling out of base formations turned him into a turnover machine and he has never been known as a qb that turned it over a lot .

Orton is like Rodney Dangerfield he gets no respect LOL and 3 teams are now paying the price because of it .

Miami wouldve been better off if they had traded for Orton in the offseason

The Broncos wouldve been better off if the coaches and front office wouldve said Tebow would not be starting this year unless they had injuries PERIOD

The Raiders wouldve been better off if they had saved those assets and traded for Orton who had at least played in the last 10 months instead of going for overpriced Palmer and relying on Boller .

This has been one crazy season ....... and hey Broncos fans got what they wanted

Let's compare Tebow's stats to Russel's stats. So far this year Tebow has the following:

passing yards: 412
passing tds: 4
int: 1
rushing yards: 165
rushing tds: 1

So Tebow already has more rushing yards in only 2 games. His TD/Int ratio is better and he had done this with one of the worst Head Coaches in the league and Denver just traded away their best WR.

Tebow was sacked 7 times today by 4 different Lions. An offensive line that actually blocked would help. Does Tebow need to get better? Absolutely, but give him a 2 full seasons as a starter. That's what all other 1st round QB's get.

Jamarcus Russell > Tim Tebow.

Yeah. I just went THERE.

—————————————
Agreed. As bad as Russell was in the league his second season showed flashes of promise.
Russell’s second year stats:
passing yards: 2423
passing tds: 13
int: 8
rushing yards: 121
rushing tds: 1
qb rating: 77.1

Now those numbers won’t set the world on fire but I honestly believe that Tebow will not get anywhere near those numbers. Maybe if you could mix Tebow’s heart and determination with Russel’s natural gifts you’d get a franchise QB.

Tebow does a terrible job protecting the ball... he is late on his reads... has a ridiculously slow release... and has horrible accuracy. None of this has anything to do with a lack of talent around him... that's all on him.

Some of these things can be fixed with hard work and time. But it's going to be tough because he really doesn't have a lot going for him concerning those critical skill sets that an NFL QB must possess. And, because of his draft status, I don't think he will have the time and still remain a starter.

Give him three years holding a clipboard... and then see where he's at.

stop hating on tebow. his college coach is right, the whole team is awful. no quarterback stands a chance on this awful team. tebow didnt give up 38 points, the defense did.
____________________________
Ok, so if Tebow were surrounded by an excellent team that succeeded in spite of his mistakes, would you be calling Tebow a bad QB or would you be saying that in football it's the final score that counts? That's my real problem. It's not really about Tebow for me, it's about his more fanatical supporters and all the coverage that generates about a player who has yet to prove anything in this league. For Tebow supporters, everything good that happens is because of Tebow. Either it's him doing something himself, or willing his teammates to do something. When he plays poorly, however, it's the bad O-line, receivers not getting the job done, or the coach calling the wrong plays.

If the media covered Tebow the same way they'd cover anyone else (and if his more fervent supporters weren't constantly making ridiculous claims), I'd have no problem with the guy. Instead, the amount of coverage he gets, and the way that he's covered has me wanting to see him lose and lose big just so that I don't have to be inundated in Tebow coverage when I'm trying to watch sports coverage.

That’s my real problem. It’s not really about Tebow for me, it’s about his more fanatical supporters and all the coverage that generates about a player who has yet to prove anything in this league. For Tebow supporters, everything good that happens is because of Tebow. Either it’s him doing something himself, or willing his teammates to do something. When he plays poorly, however, it’s the bad O-line, receivers not getting the job done, or the coach calling the wrong plays.

If the media covered Tebow the same way they’d cover anyone else (and if his more fervent supporters weren’t constantly making ridiculous claims), I’d have no problem with the guy. Instead, the amount of coverage he gets, and the way that he’s covered has me wanting to see him lose and lose big just so that I don’t have to be inundated in Tebow coverage when I’m trying to watch sports coverage.

Nobody mentions this week was the week the Tebow-oriented offense was installed by Fox. Makes you wonder how bad he actually is if todays offensive scheme was built around him. If he can't succeed with a scheme built around him, where can he succeed? The rest of the team is bad, but there were plays Tebow needed to show he was competent. A l00 yard pick 6 and 3rd down failure aren't going to help anyone's case for making Tebow the future. Why is ESPN posed that tebowing after a sack is disrespectful to prayer when Tebow said it was awesome when random people did it in random places. ESPN has too much invested in Tebow to ever allow him to fail. ESPN sucks.

Those of you who keep apologizing for Tebow make me laugh. While I understand that he's essentially a rookie and still has a learning curve, he just doesn't have the talent for being an NFL quarterback.
Thank you! Now maybe I won't have to hear how good this DA is in front of the worst team in the NFL, Dolphins, while playing in a near empty stadium with FL fans cheering for Teblow. Then the donk fans/media acting like "he makes everyone better". Even old azz chump bailey said that. I bet Orton loved that you said "teblow makes me want to play harder". Good know that the offensive QB so greatly dictates your level of play, or should I say desire to play, on the defense.

The best part is; these idiot donkey fans thinking Tebow was the answer. Do you really think the multi-million dollars that are spent on a coaches is just fluff? Orton is better and likely around #20 or so in all of the NFL. Tebow would be ranked in the 50's, AFTER multiple backups. Of course your DA organization did spend a 1st rounder on the guy, maybe you clowns do believe in the koolaid they sell there in Denver.

Now the media can get off their knees and maybe pay attention to the part of the NFL that matters.

have a starting qb for the first 3 qtrs

apparently that is the only quarter in which he looks like a halfway decent nfl qb

so there ya have it, just re-invent him as a closer qb

Jamarcus Russell > Tim Tebow.

Yeah. I just went THERE.

---------------------------------------
Agreed. As bad as Russell was in the league his second season showed flashes of promise.
Russell's second year stats:
passing yards: 2423
passing tds: 13
int: 8
rushing yards: 121
rushing tds: 1
qb rating: 77.1

Now those numbers won't set the world on fire but I honestly believe that Tebow will not get anywhere near those numbers. Maybe if you could mix Tebow's heart and determination with Russel's natural gifts you'd get a franchise QB.
