James Harrison says he won’t return for Steelers

Titans Steelers Football AP

The Steelers could lose one of their bookend linebackers for Sunday Night’s game against the Ravens, but they also sound likely get one Pro Bowl linebacker back.

James Harrison should return to the lineup, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  He fractured his orbital bone and missed four games.

UPDATE: Harrison later wrote on Twitter that he would only be able to practice this week, not play. This is in contrast to quotes from his agent that said Harrison would play.  Perhaps the Steelers are just trying create confusion. Either way, Harrison says he won’t play.

Lamarr Woodley’s status is up  in the air after hurting his hamstring Sunday. Mike Florio reports Woodley is “week-to-week” with his injury. (Also week-to-week: Florio’s inability to win a round of PFT Picks.)

I’m sure the Ravens would rather the Steelers be missing Woodley, than missing Harrison. We all know who did the real work for the Steelers defense while Harrison was always making the headlines.

Here’s hoping the time Harrison had off to heal his eye socket had a couple of blessings Harrison otherwise would never have been exposed to but for the injury.

For one, the hope here is it gave James’ back the rest and healing it so badly needed.

Secondly, hopefully James could train and regain some of the strength he lost after two deep-cutting back surgeries.

    Now that would be cool.

Not asking for any specific reason, but when does HGH testing take effect?

Harrison is out, possibly till the bye…….. he just posted it on his twitter

  6. sportsinhd says: Oct 31, 2011 7:02 PM

Here’s the message from his facebook:

“Saw the doctor today. Looks like I won’t be playing this weekend but at least I’m cleared for practice. Worst case scenario I’ll be back after the bye for sure.”

Harrison, Woodley and Farrior are all out next week. Harrison was cleared to practice. Woodley has a hamstring strain, and Farrior has a torn calf and will be out about a month. Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.

let me get this out of the way now… “we didn’t have our three best linebackers. Wait til we play in January”

    Hello, BrownsTown ;)

I know you’re not asking for any specific reason because it doesn’t have anything at all to do with James Harrison … does it?

watermelon1, Woodley is a great player and I’m thrilled it looks like he’ll be able to play. Of course, you’re free to believe Woodley was carrying Harrison’s load all this time if you want. Meanwhile, I’ll just keep grinning ear-to-ear at the thought of having a highly motivated, rarin’-to-go James Harrison back in the lineup Sunday night. :D

You have to play with the players you have. Injuries are a part of the game. The Ravens have been very lucky so far in that they have had many less injuries than most of teams, while the Steelers have a had a lot more than most teams. Maybe the Ravens will win again easily, only time will tell. Still nothing really matters until the Playoffs, then 65% of the time the healthier team wins. So could be a lot of teams in the AFC

Thats pretty close, but let me complete that for ya…

“we didn’t have our three best linebackers and we still dominated them. Wait til we play in January, if they make it. We’ll be healthy and really give them a stomping.”

    Is that what you meant?

  12. mnavia2 says: Oct 31, 2011 9:03 PM

    @bostonbias

do you watch the ravens? they have been hit real hard by injuries. They were missing their top two corner backs and zibby until yesterday and are still without Grubbs and Evans. So i’d say they have definitely been hit with a few injuries.

  13. macadamia2010 says: Oct 31, 2011 9:17 PM

@tk1966, I’m trying to remember the last time either one of these two teams gave the other an actual stomping. Oh that’s right, it was this season. How’d that work out for ya?

  14. raqaiw says: Oct 31, 2011 9:33 PM

@tk1966: Kind of like that humbling thrashing you took week 1 right? You are the reason people hate the Steelers. You and the refs from SB 40.

  15. steelcurtainn says: Oct 31, 2011 9:54 PM

Thats bad news for the rest of the league.

    @ raqaiw and macadamia

Lighten up ladies. If you have ever read any of the comments I make here, you would notice I never post crap like that seriously. I was pointing out how stupid mnavia sounded – ya’ know, satire? If you don’t get it, you don’t get it. And it makes you look the fool.

    ‘bye now’

The ravens have the same amount of losses as the steelers so what did that win do for you…no one expected either team to sweep the other this year and this is not the bcs. If the steelers win by one on Sunday its the same as if they win by 28… I like the steelers chances with the second best qb in the league

People hated the Steelers three decades before SBXL. Some bad calls that didn’t change the outcome of a game just give them a convenient excuse, as do posts you don’t like. If you want to know why people really hate the Steelers, check out Peter King’s article “The Steel Age” in the Jan. 22, 1990, issue of SI. That article explains why fans of other teams hate the Steelers–and it provides some interesting history of the league and the game, too. You can find it online, but PFT doesn’t post links.

Typical Quittsburgh bulls**t mind games about the players’ status.

Next week they’ll have the same story come out again, only featuring a different player.

You’re kidding right? Ben finally has one good game against NE and now he’s the 2nd best qb in league and better than brady, manning, rivers, (yeah last night didn’t help that argument), and brees? You drink more of the kool-aid than flacco fanatics.

BTW, Steelers without Harrison = Life goes on

Steelers without Woodley = More of an issue. Woodley is a beast.

Ok so Harrison’s grill is ok to go through contact all week in practice but for the biggest game of the year for both my Ravens and the Steelers, im supposed to believe that this guy ain’t playing?? Child Please!(Ive always wanted to drop that line)
