More details emerge about Julian Edelman’s arrest

Jacksonville Jaguars v New England Patriots Getty Images

We told you earlier about the Tuesday morning arrest of Patriots wideout Julian Edelman.

Brian R. Ballou and John R. Ellemen of the Boston Globe have uncovered more details about why the team’s reserve receiver was arrested for indecent assault after an incident in a Boston nightclub.

Edelman is accused in the police report of groping a woman below the waist.  A man who was with the woman said Edelman bumped into the woman on the dance floor.

“He saw the victim’s face change into an expression of shock,’’ police said in the report.

The man then confronted Edelman and eventually all three of them were kicked out of the club.  Edelman denied groping the woman but was arrested for indecent assault and battery and later released.

There is never a good time for something like this to happen, but Edelman has to be particularly worried about his job security. His role was waning of late; Edelman was a healthy scratch against the Steelers Sunday.

Edleman needs to stay employed! He, Welker, and Woodhead on the same roster makes small white people everywhere very proud.

Wait, that’s not an effective way to pick up women? This is not a good way to stay in Bill Belichick’s good graces…

Belichick lets these guys go clubbing on a Monday night? Why aren’t they at home watching film or studying the playbook?

  15. nxsteven says: Nov 1, 2011 10:51 AM

If Edleman is cut, that’ll be the 10th player from that draft class to be cut. Patriots drafted 13 players that year.

Chung, Vollmer, and Pryor (always injured) would be the last three remaining.

  16. mn1bjb says: Nov 1, 2011 10:52 AM

It was Bibi Jones. She never felt so violated in her life. Gronkowski wasn’t to happy about it.

  25. micronin127 says: Nov 1, 2011 11:34 AM

Extremely poor timing. The Pats need roster spots for two more guys activated off PUP list anyway: Ron Brace and Marcus Cannon.

They have plenty of receiver/return types: Welker, Faulk, Vereen, Ridley, Slater.

    It’s Darwinian: natural selection.

Patriots need to stop screwing around with all that “Patriot Way” pablum and get serious about winning a few playoff games and getting to a Super Bowl. Julian Edelman won’t get them there. Neither will Ochocinco. Randy Moss can! his positive impact would be immediate on that team. Gronlowski, Hernandez Welker and Faulk would be wide open as teams would be forced to double cover Moss deep. Or pay a stiff price. The running game would open up much better. No good team is afraid of Patriot receivers. They can cover them man to man. And that frees them up to blitz Brady unmercifully.

Time for Kraft and Belichick to get unstuck off stupid. Eat their pride. And correct this horrible mistake. They never should have released Randy Moss or signed Ocho. Edelman is a non story. And he should be cut to make room for an impact player like Moss. Who can actually help that team get to and win a SuperBowl! He already knows their playbook and Brady’s preferences. Wake Up Patriots before it’s too late. Your defense is not remotely Superbowl or Playoff caliber. But a Brady-Moss-Gronkowski-Hernandez-Welker-Faulk-Branch atack would more than disguise it. Who cares about Julian Edelman except his family?!

The money Welker is going to get in his next contract keeps going up

  38. ronaldmexico says: Nov 1, 2011 12:13 PM

This doesn’t bode well for Edelman if these allegations are true. Sounds like he may need to consult with Larry Johnson to get some tips on how to meet women in clubs.

I have seen these guys that lack game out on the town…most women don’t know who you are 2nd and 3rd stringers (even most 1st stringers), so forgive them and let it go when they don’t fall all over you.

How about…he was dressed up as a cop from that show Reno 911 on top of it? SMH.

  44. greenpacker says: Nov 1, 2011 12:42 PM

as a diehard packers fan i believe we could use a guy like Edelman not only for his services on the field but for his influence in the locker room. someone needs to balance out the classless return style of randall cobb

  45. ballinmore says: Nov 1, 2011 12:48 PM

He was probably upset that the woman didn’t know who he was.

  46. j0esixpack says: Nov 1, 2011 1:17 PM

I haven’t been to a meat market nightclub in years – but if memory serves the dance floors are usually incredibly crowded forcing people into the closest of close proximity – and no shortage of lowlife guys taking advantage of that.

Maybe that’s what Edelman was doing – maybe not – but with it being Halloween I’d think that there was a lot of drinking going on by both the alleged perpetrator and the alleged victim and boyfriend.

We’ll probably never know what really happened – but I have a feeling if the boyfriend figured out who he was dealing with the thought “ca-ching” went through his alcohol addled mind.

  47. scrapdo says: Nov 1, 2011 1:20 PM

Did any of you even bother to read the story? He bumped into someone on a dance floor? If that’s all there is to it I certainly hope it doesn’t affect his livelyhood. Could happen to anyone.

  48. wte1 says: Nov 1, 2011 1:29 PM

I bet she has a nice toe.

  49. rtookey says: Nov 1, 2011 1:37 PM

Never ceases to amaze me the crap Americans pull to get a lawsuit to make a buck. “He rubbed me as a passed him in a busy crowd, im suing for 3 million in punitive damages.”

  50. richm2256 says: Nov 1, 2011 1:41 PM

I have to say it ……. the time is right to bring Randy Moss back.

The Pat’s offense needs a deep threat to shake loose the opposing secondary, which will open up the other receivers a bit more and improve the passing game, which will open up the running game more, which will get that crap defense off the damn field.

Opponents can’t score with their offense on the sidelines.

A contrite, happy-as-hell-to-be-here-again, Randy Moss can make all that happen. Ocho is a lost cause at this point.

  51. oldcracker says: Nov 1, 2011 1:56 PM

Maybe he was auditioning for Big Ben, since the Steelers were in town.

Does he get to collect unemployment now?

  52. jpmelon says: Nov 1, 2011 1:58 PM

This is why guys need to take a second before they start grabbing at women. You can’t just appraise a house without first getting the homeowners permission.

  60. rally411 says: Nov 1, 2011 7:28 PM

I don’t know where PFt gets their info from but MSN is reporting that Edelman reached under a woman’s costume and grabbed her crotch which isn’t in the same fu%&ng galaxy as bumping into someone on the dance floor as some are suggesting here.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/New-England-Patriots-WR-Julian-Edelman-arrested-on-assault-charge-110111

I don’t know what really happened but seeing as how it’s after dark, and in a nightclub, and he’s probably drunk, which means he felt entitled as countless other athletes in his very same position do, I’m gonna take the over on this one.
