Losing the Vikings to LA would be a travesty unto football, only slightly less so than the Browns and Colts moving. Plus, Lakers —> North Stars —> Vikings….probably won’t get another franchise unless there is a future mega-expansion that will bring balanced divisions back. No team will move there now and there are better expansion options. Too bad.

You can’t see a bridge falling apart due to lack of maintenance until it actually falls in the river. You’d think Minnesotans, of all people, would understand this. You can’t see the problem with getting “union members” off the public payroll until you end up with no policemen, firemen or teachers. But you sure as hell can see the moving vans leaving Winter Park.

Want something for nothing? Nothing is what you are liable to end up with.

As a Packer fan, I really wanted this to get done. The Vikes are a great rivalry and I’ll hate to see them move. Ultimately, it looks like the community is choosing pro football is not that important.
So much for greats like Carl Eller, Mick Tingelhoff, Alan Page, Paul Krause, Bud Grant, and the rest of the purple people eaters.

Community? Minnesota is a big state and it’s a state full of people who don’t care about sports. I understand that if you’re in GB you must love the Packers. There’s a lot of music, art, theater, etc that Minnesotans take pride in and especially people in MPLS/St.Paul. I’m sure the same goes for people from Chicago and Det!

It’s the “people” who are going to help pay for this stadium, so let them vote on it and get their input on the matter. I’d bet the vote would go in the Vikings favor, but Ramsey County took the vote out of the tax payers hands, effectively ruining things in the process.

I hate the Vikes, but they need a stadium. It’s too bad the county I live in made a bad decision and now it may doom the stadium. When there’s money involved, give people a chance to vote and make up their own minds – this isn’t communism.

You’re right, it’s not communism. It’s not a true democracy either, which is what you described – we live in a representative democracy and that means you elect people to vote on the issues and bills for you.

That’s all those of us close to this issue are asking for – the reps we elected to lead to step up and attempt to come up with a viable solution. The Vikings are an asset to this state and region and need to stay put.

Remember the labor dispute?
Day in and day out, for 5 months, we got the deal is close/isn’t close blow by blow.

Same thing here folks. Both sides will play a game of chicken and in the end I’ll bet Goodell intervenes and the Vikes sign a one year lease at the Trash Bag Dome in order to come to a final stadium deal.

The NFL does not want to breakdown the rivalries unless its a last resort. The move to L.A. would create other problems for the league.

Interesting in the same newscast that talked of this story the very next clip was of how the state was going to dump 200 million plus in renovating the state capital were these dumb decisions are made…..

I just hope it doesn’t come down to the team moving, all my life I’ve known the *MINNESOTA* Vikings, and outside of making yearly trips to Detroit for away games, I try to make it to a home game once in a while.

If a stadium in Minneapolis is approved and Zygi decides he wants to go to LA, NFL owners will not vote to approve the move. They want to keep the team in Minnesota and they will be more than happy to let some other team in a weaker market move to LA.

First off, of the vikes were not a weak market team the stadium deal would have been a done deal years ago. The Vikes 3rd from the bottom as far as financial revenues among NFL teams and 17 of these teams are in smaller metro areas. This team has had trouble for years selling season tickets and when a team has trouble selling tickets that limits opportunities for other ancillary revenue streams.

Secondly, your assertion of lost tax revenues due to no new stadium has been disprove in literally dozens of studies done on the economic impact professional sports has on metro area. Even in the most favorable ones they say there is at best a “minuscule” benefit. Zygi know this, that’s why hes spent millions lobbying the MN politicians to get a new stadium deal done. He is trying to buy their votes because they know the truth of these studies also. It’s a matter of public record the million he’s spent on politicians from both parties via is No.1 lobbyist, Lester Bagley.

Don’t be afraid of the truth.

Our Legislators, who already doomed themselves to not getting re-elected by playing with people’s lives by forcing a gov’t shutdown this past summer, are in full on “No” mode, just like our previous governor.

This is all on our incredibly inept state government that has no idea how to lead, not the people.

Governor Dayton has capped state contributions at $300M. Thats $10M per over the 30 year life of the stadium since iterest rates are near zero.

The state will lose $20M alone in lost direct tax revenue (see attached link)

It generates $300M upfront in construction jobs alone (see attached link)

This NOT a victory for Taxpayers or Democracy.

If the Vikings leave, the State legislature will have to come up with an addtional $20M per year to make up for the lost tax revenue from the Vikings.

Where is that money going to come from?

I am in my 50s and a lifelong Republican, but if these Tea Party Morons screw this up and the Vikes leave, I am joining the Democractic party for good.

Didn’t this state force an “arts” bill into the State DNR budget to renovate a bunch of theatres…basically to make the building look prettier while they played off-Broadway “Cats” for the 4, 789th time without a public referendum?

Didn’t this state pass a $100 million renovation to the Somalian projects to make them LOOK NICER without a public referendum?

But no money for football. Wow. I don’t know if I would bother waking up if I were unfortunate enough to be from that state.

The fact that we built the gophers and twins their own stadiums first using state money, then let the Vikings walk is basically proof that our fricken legislature is retarded. Good grief.

I mean the project isn’t dead by any means but the fact that lawmakers are trying their best to actually push it into reverse, rather than forward, means that the writing might be on the wall.

Perhaps our best bet at this point is that Zigi will temporarily move the team until we can vote out our lawmakers. Is that even an option?
