Jared Allen is the NFC defensive player of the month

Reuters

There haven’t been many reasons for folks in Minnesota to celebrate this year.  But Vikings fans could be witnessing the greatest single season by any defensive lineman in league history.

Defensive end Jared Allen has 12.5 sacks in eight games.  For his efforts during five games in October, he has been named the NFC defensive player of the month.

He’s the first Vikings player to win the monthly award since safety Darren Sharper in October 2005.

Allen also has set a team record by notching a sack in 10 straight games.  He needs 10 sacks in the team’s final eight games to tie Michael Strahan’s single-season record of 22.5, set in 2001.

  1. If he ties the record, I consider it broken. Strahan’s record has an asterisk*

Signed, someone who’s not a fan of Jared Allen

  2. Of course they show him on top of Rodgers…well, to be the best, one has to beat the best!!!

Good job, Allen! I truly mean that! Beastly!!

  3. Way to go, Jared! Is it just me, or does Rodgers look like he’s enjoying having Jared on top of him a little bit too much? Wait, is Rodgers touching himself? Gross…

  4. Cool good for him! He has been a fantastic player and not just this year! I wish the vikes would get a young nose tackle with Allen’s Heart,Drive and big play ability. Congrats To Jared Allen

  5. Allen is a beast! I wish our entire D played with his intensity and motor. The guy is always going hard and doesnt seem to take plays off. Well deserved Jared!!!

  6. cool for jared, i wanna see him break the gap toothed man’s record! they haven’t had a decent safety since sharper. he had int’s but must have been burned too much or too expensive to keep sharper. educate me on him would someone? ha

  7. “He needs 10 sacks in the team’s final eight games to tie Michael Strahan’s single-season record of 22.5, set in 2001.”

Well, having Brett Favre serve himself up like a sacrificial lamb for the last sack might help, too.

  8. I miss the mullet though… “If I approach you from the front, it’s like, wow, that dude is pretty serious. Then I walk away and you’re like, damn, he likes to party. With two Rs.”

    Bring it back!!!

  9. If he gets 22.0 then he has broken the record. Strahan earned 21.5 sacks, his final sack on Brett Favre was Favre laying down on the ground for him…….

  10. Not a vikes fan except for Allen who graduated from the culinary school of medicine. Allen cracks me up.

  11. Chiefs fans… I know it’s got to be painful watching a star player leave town. Now you know how Joe Montana fans felt in San Fran!

  12. Demarcus Ware is a great player don’t get me wrong but he has it easier than Jared Allen does. Allen Commands a double and triple team because no one else on the defensive line is any good. Ware also has the benefit of not having to engage blockers right away. Besides Allen does more, not only does he rush the passer and play the run he is asked to drop into coverage and has more INTs than Ware does. Great job Jared, hopefully you can break Strahans record.

I dont think any d-lineman has ever been triple teamed, ever. Leave it to a dumb canadian to say something stupid like this!

  14. but he still plays for the Vikings…..

Thats like winning the 100 yard dash during the special olympics… yeah youre the champ, but youre still a retard

  15. Jared Allen has 12.5 Sacks, 5 QB Hits, and 17 Pressures for 34.5 Total Hurries. Its ridiculous. He’s tied the NFL record with a sack in 10 straight games.

The fact that he’s converting his pressures into Sacks just shows his extra step this year when getting at the QB.

You are the idiot here, here is an example. Tackle with Tight end help with a running back in to chip… Way to go champ!

  17. I see the entire purple rube nation is on here congratulating him. All 15 of them

once again a packer fan that still is not satisfied, at least we r smart enuff not to care wut u think

  18. C’Mon this is ridiculous, where’s love for my boy D-WARE?!?!, Allen has a half sack more but has played one more game, and you know DWARE is getting 4 more sacks against Tavaris Jackson on Sunday, he’s gonna beat out Jared Allen no problem, but i still do think that Allen is gonna end up with 23 and DWARE with 25

Dude you are a moran, LT on the end, Tight end chiping on the outside and running back who stays in the back field on a split set chipping as well before he goes into the flats, or double teamed at the line with a tackle and guard gets help from the running back….triple team. Do me a favor, pull your lip over your head and swallow. Allen sees mostly double teams with an occasional triple team situation as listed above, mainly in a max protect set…..BOXED

  20. I hate the Vikes, but you have to give Allen alot of credit, and respect. Also I don’t understand why sooo many poeple want the Vikes to move to L.A. The only time I can take my hatred out on my friends are the two weeks the Pack plays them.

come up with that one yourself? please.

Jared had something to prove this year. Last year he looked like he was getting old, but he is back to form now. Good for him, glad to see it. Hope he breaks that record or at least ties it.

He has an interception in coverage & at least 1 fumble recovery. You can not deny he is having a top notch year.

Well said, and totally agree. As much as I hate to admit it, my wife drug me to see “Bring it on” years ago, and one line has stayed with me. “I define being the best as competing against the best and beating them.”

Are you on the wrong site? Are you perhaps looking for the European football? Because this….. Dude, I was a DL and often triple-teamed…………in HS. Do you really think it never happens in the pros? Maybe you should try watching the games…………..

Allen can’t hold Ware’s jock! DeMarcus is co-MVP w/A Rodgers in my book.

That’s because you won’t let go of it…..

  26. Many thanks to all of those that have proven what a moronic idiot pacificamjr is

    Keep the Vikes in MN
