I am a Bears fan, but very few get to be considered tops in the position. Even then you need the help of a great offensive line to help create routes.

Everyone knows that the Bears have had huge troubles in that area. No surprise that if you're the only one able to succeed in spite of their failings that you'll become the workhorse.

Of course the modern game is more about the vertical game than the past where every position was running. At least then you had the benefit of never knowing who was carrying the ball across the LoS. Once most of the RBs became WRs, it just gets way too easy to figure out who to cover on a run... then you have your work cut out for you.

Personally I love the running game. It requires more than just "stacking the box" to stop a true ground and pound offense, and could still be done well if any team cared enough to turn the clock back and go with ball control and clock management.

Boring? for some... but quite effective. You could have 7 very good RBs rotating in and out constantly for the price of one super dud QB or a couple of prima donna WRs. Sadly, no one is going to eliminate the passing game. Would be fun to see though.

Shady McCoy can't get his new contract until DeSean gets his first. There's a certain pecking order that exists and the players know that. McCoy is risking injury a lot more than Jackson is though. Jackson gets a few touches each game. McCoy is getting 30 or more (including pass receptions). I'd say McCoy has a much bigger chance of suffering a serious injury which could affect his future earnings.

I think Shady McCoy is making $250K this year. Everyone knows De Jax has also outplayed his contract too.

Yeah they have a contract. Yes they should honor the contract and play ball. Yes its a contact sport.

The teams should still do the honorable thing and write up some new contracts.

Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson got too much. Jamaal Charles contract is about right. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson really got rewarded for past service; but they earned it and they did not dog it after they got paid.

As a Lions fan who has seen this guy burn them numerous times, I find it hard to believe that they
can’t give him a new contract. Then again, don’t
think that other players around the league who will
soon be free agents aren’t paying attention to this.
It just shows what a half-a$$ed organization the Bears
are.
=================================

Don't fool yourself.
The Lions have not done nearly enough for their fans to start calling any other NFL a half assed organization.

You have been looking up at them in the standing for a long, long time.

The Bears offered Forte 15 million guaranteed before the season started and he turned it down.

Anyone that keeps claiming that the Bears are cheap or not trying to take care of Forte really needs to stop pretending that they know anything about the NFL or what’s going on around the league.

Stop making stupid snap judgments based on reading the headlines and then going right to the comments box for a change.

Would you BUY an extended warrenty on your car for 10 years? Most people won't because most people don't keep their cars much more than 4 or 5 years.

Seriously. The Bears are smart. RBs don’t last much more than 4 years. Why pay long term money for that (see C Johnson)?

Would you BUY an extended warrenty on your car for 10 years? Most people won’t because most people don’t keep their cars much more than 4 or 5 years.

Do you buy a 5 year warrenty on your cell phone? No, because most prople buy a new one every couple of years.

Nobody ever mentions that the Bears offered him $15mil and he turned it down.

The Bears aren't cheap. Peppers, Urlacher, and Cutler, to name a few, are paid very well. Kreutz walked over 500k. The Bears upped their offer to 4mil, he was "insulted", signed for 2mil with the Saints and quit mid season to avoid being benched. Briggs is mad because he is on the back end of a front loaded contract and wants to buy a new Lamborghini to crash and abandon.

They even grossly overpaid several free agents (Chestor Taylor, Spencer, Manumali-bigblockingtightend, Roy Williams). The front office is more stupid with their money (crappy GM) than cheap

As a Lions fan who has seen this guy burn them numerous times, I find it hard to believe that they
can't give him a new contract. Then again, don't
think that other players around the league who will
soon be free agents aren't paying attention to this.
It just shows what a half-a$$ed organization the Bears
are.

The average RB lasts something like 3 years in the NFL. If Forte tears an ACL in the remainder of this
season, it may cost him millions. I don't blame him
for complaining. He's a proven commodity.

He is making 600,000 a year to catch a football and run around. Cry me a fricken river.

Thanks for the chuckle. Your comment "Catch a football and run around." Makes it sound like so easy. If it was that easy, then why aren't you doing it? Perhaps you have choosen to do something else, more than likely making about a fifth of what the league minimum is just because you feel like it. Point is, you couldn't do it, I couldn't do it, and I'm betting a vast majority if the WORLD couldn't do what these men and women athletes can do.
We pay billions as a world for sports entertainment. Where should that money all go?

Sorry for the spiel and as far as the Forte situation.. Pay the man.

the whole system of franchise tags is grossly unfair to the players that get tagged. If the tags made teams pay the player for multiple years and guarantee that money I wouldn't have a huge problem with it because it helps to maintain the continuity of team personnel.

It basically punishes somewhat randomly the best players on each team - while lesser players get better contracts.
