I thought Packers Faithful were proud of their “Truth, Justice and Green Bay” take on all things football. They proclaim Honor and Righteousness over Minny in all things because the Vikings haven’t won any Super Bowls; But they are generally pretty fair about it.

First, Zygi Wilf has done everything in his power to work with the state and keep the Vikings here. He’s offered $400 million of his own money for a stadium, whereas starting January 1, he’s likely to get multiple offers from other cities that will require far less, if any, of his money to build a new stadium.

What’s Wilf supposed to do then, tell them ‘No, thanks. I’d rather stay in Minnesota and sign a new lease on an outdated stadium that doesn’t generated NFL-level profits, and hope that the state eventually wants to take my $400 million to help build a new stadium.”? I wouldn’t blame Wilf for leaving, but if that happens, I can’t wait to hear the whining from the state politicians over lost revenue, followed by a strong movement to build a new stadium to attract another team.

Second, I’m surprised at the number of Packer fans posting here to belittle Viking fans; the Packer fans I know are better people than that. You fellas need to get a life.

I understand that a dollar is a dollar, and that a lot of people have a problem with paying for a professional sports arena (although funding for a non-professional sports arena doesn’t seem to incur near the outrage), but let’s be real. This is not financial doom for the people of Minnesota. Would you be up in arms if your property taxes went up $5? Maybe… Would you even notice if the tax on your resturaunt bill went from 7.5% to 7.6%? Probably not. This is the level we are talking about. $300 million is a lot of money. $16.7 million/year is a lot of money. The state already runs through $35.8 BILLION of your money every year. If you really feel that you deserve a voice in whether your money is spent on this, why don’t you insist on getting a vote on the rest of it?

No, it’s a problem of hypocrisy. How often is a tax increase or a spending decision given a public vote? Did they ask the public if they approved fixing the Guthrie? Did they ask if the public thought it was a good time to spend a couple hundred million to spruce up the capital building? Does the voting public get to decide whether companies get tax breaks to operate in the state?

How about a vote on this one…. Dayton proposed changing the state income tax requirements to include prorated portions for those who live in the state for a minimum of 60 days per year, as opposed to 6 months as it stands now. This measure was expected to raise an additional $15 million per year. It was voted down by the legislature. How about putting that up for the residents of Minnesota to vote on? I know what to do with that $15 million/year…….

Minnesota has had ten years to figure this out. If I’m the Vikings management, I’m already taking bids from moving companies.

BTW: I’m a lifelong Vikings fan who has come to believe Minnesota doesn’t deserve and NFL franchise.

If the Vikings leave MN, the league loses the Packers-Vikings rivalry: highly-anticipated match-ups between two franchises with a great deal of history and no love lost. That would be a shame.

If the Vikes have to move, Minnesota won’t be getting another NFL team. Retaining colors and name is the kind of issue that will become a bill and all MN pols will vote for it so they can say they really cared.

But Packers fans who are finding some kind of joy in Vikes fans misery and fear about losing their team should try putting themselves in Vikes fans shoes if only for this one issue. Some of the posts here are embarrassing and that’s putting some shine on it.

Despite Dollar Roger’s dreams of shiny world corporate conquest and big media market wet dreams, football is a blue collar sport even if most blue collar folks can’t afford to go to games. Put ‘em in Fargo. It’ll keep the NFC North intact, it’ll keep what’s left of authentic pro football alive, we’ll get snow games, and the fans will be loyal to a fault.

But I’d much rather the Vikes stay in Minnesota, preferably in an outdoor stadium in Arden Hills where fans can tailgate and snomo, where I can be happy to hate the Vikes till I die.
