Bills starting to sound like Jets before huge AFC East tilt

S. JohnsonasGailey

Giants-Patriots has the national late audience and the Super Bowl rematch angle, but for my money Bills-Jets this Sunday is a whole lot more interesting.

This is Buffalo’s chance to put significant distance between them and the Jets in the AFC East.  This is New York’s chance to get right back in playoff position.

It’s the biggest Bills game since 2004, which is a sentence we’ll probably be able to write a lot in the next two months. The hype has Bills receiver Stevie Johnson talking like he’s a Jet.

“I think it’s our turn now. It’s our turn to show that we’re going to come in and try to take over this division and make this run be for real,” Johnson told the Associated Press Thursday.

Johnson, who dressed up as coach Chan Gailey for Halloween in the picture above, believes there is no limit to what the Bills can do.

“Yes we can get to the playoffs, we can get to the Super Bowl.  Whatever they say we can’t, we can,” Johnson said.

To do that, they need to win games like this. So do the Jets. LaDainian Tomlinson called it a “do or die” game for the 4-3 Jets.

We wouldn’t go that far just yet — the Jets face the Patriots and Bills again this month — but it is the second biggest game of an intriguing NFL weekend.

(The best game: The best rivalry in the league, of course.)

Ugh, you just cant stop shoving Ravens-Steelers down our throats can you?

  2. nmking26 says: Nov 4, 2011 10:08 AM

No he doesn’t sound like a jet. Jets players and coaches say that they WILL win the SB. Steve Johnson is saying that the Bills CAN run the SB. That’s perfectly fine with me. Can’t expect a player to day otherwise about his team.

The Bills are probably a more complete team than both the Jets and Patriots.

whoa whoa whoa…..don’t go telling me that the Bills are in the same category as the Jets when it comes to running their mouths.

Stevie is by far the most outspoken member of the Bills now that Whitner is gone; and you can see that he has not said anything outrageous. Saying that you “can” go to the superbowl is a far cry from guaranteeing a Superbowl victory two years in a row.

  5. schmitty2 says: Nov 4, 2011 10:14 AM

Well maybe the Bill’s will make it to the Super Bowl (it would be nice to see a different team) but we all know how their Super Bowl visits usually go

Jets player/coach: “yeah you might as well already crown us champions”

Bills player: “we CAN do what we put our minds to”

    Yeah, totally the same.

I am a CHicago Fan and have a neutral percpective. The Jets are not a very good team. The Bills are much better. Win or Lose the Jets season is in trouble, that offense is inept and they can’t stop the run. The Bills are the better team this year. I hope the Bills win, but it is not a do or die for them.

There’s a difference between confidence and arrogance.

The Bills are a quiet team, with tight knit players. Mostly 7th rounders, undrafted free agents and no-namers. 2 very soft spoken 1st round picks in Marcell Dareus and CJ Spiller, a Quarterback that is smart and responds well to pressure and a running back(Freddy Jackson) that is so under-rated its ridiculous. This Buffalo team may not have all the bells and whistles like the Packers or the Lions but they are very determined to make a name fore themselves.

    Bills Mafia 4 life!!

    Go Bills!!!!

    Usually?

The Bills are batting 1000 in Super Bowls, 0-4.

Is stating a fact the same as hating?

The Bills are fun to watch. I also enjoy watching the Jets defense (I’m jealous of it too :( ) . This will be a very interesting game. I say this as a fan of the game, not the Pats fan I am. I like having a competitive division. If the Pats make the playoffs, perhaps having to fight their way there will get them tough enough to win in the playoffs after a 3 year drought.

Stevie & the Bills doesn’t sound like the Jets, they are not running their mouths guaranteeing anything… they’re just saying that the Bills can make it to the Playoffs & can make to the SB… Every NFL team starts their season specting to do that… Let the Bills take their well deserved shot at it!

  15. glac1 says: Nov 4, 2011 10:40 AM

I think they sound more like the lions……

Jets have beaten Bills 5 of last 6 meetings. Off of the bye week, Sexy Rex will have Jets foaming at the mouths over this game.

    Jets 27-20

Maybe Stevie forget he’ll be a non-factor on Revis Island this week?

Smartest thing I’ve read today. Bills can & have scored on any given play, incredible speed & smarts at so many positions.

  21. billyhoyle4real says: Nov 4, 2011 11:30 AM

The Bills sound nothing like the Jets.
The Jets look nothing like they sound.
The Buffalo Bills circle the AFC East on a wagon round and round.

  22. realnflmaster says: Nov 4, 2011 11:33 AM

blah blah blah. Jets back to back AFC Championships. They do back it up.

Keep hating jealous idiots. WE LOVEEEE IT!

  23. bigfranky75 says: Nov 4, 2011 11:37 AM

He sounds about as far away from being a Jet it isn’t even funny….

What should he say? He thinks he’s goign to lose?

So now whenever a player expresses confidence in his team or abilities, he sounds like the Jets?

    What a joke….

  24. rc33 says: Nov 4, 2011 12:14 PM

    Wilfork Island.
    It’s all about Wilfork Island.

No one wants to throw on that guy.

  25. indianajet says: Nov 4, 2011 12:16 PM

Stevie better get all his yapping in now.

Come Sunday he’ll be making a trip to Revis Island and, like all others that have come before him, he’ll just disappear……

“The Bills are a quiet team. Mostly 7th rounders, undrafted free agents and no-namers.”

With all due respect to underdogs everywhere, this is hardly a recipe for greatness.

  27. bullcharger says: Nov 4, 2011 12:24 PM

I take that back… they won, a road game agaist a bad team the first week, but I don’t see them winning any more. I’ll still say 8 wins.

  28. ruffbufffire says: Nov 4, 2011 1:15 PM

Berman’s predictions years ago of Bills vs. 49ers finally comes to fruiton this season!!!! Bills 32 49ers 29…..THE BILLS WIN THE BILLS WIN!!!!!

  29. nyjetsman says: Nov 4, 2011 1:19 PM

Alot of “can” in there, I would hope every player on every team would feel that way. Stevie should remember one thing though not that he “can not” but he “will not” beat Revis. Christ he couldnt even beat Aaron Ross.

  30. riverhorsey says: Nov 4, 2011 1:28 PM

Bills may get stuffed this week

  31. elmoron says: Nov 4, 2011 2:07 PM

I admire his comments. Bills are indeed a very good team, but it’s especially impressive how quickly they’ve turned it around. It’s great for the AFC East. I hope their performance helps squelch the Toronto rumors as Buffalo has had a franchise named the Bills since the ’40s, and deserves to retain it far into the future.

  32. caseyanthonymunoz says: Nov 4, 2011 2:26 PM

In all honesty, why do Jet fans brag about losing in the playoffs the last two season? Seriously, I’ll never understand it.

    Lets Play Ball!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait…

  34. 13whysoserious says: Nov 4, 2011 2:43 PM

This team is full of guys who dont remember the bad times. They only feel how the feel in the present moment. Stevie is saying what they are all thinking. Now backing it up is the key. Winning games like this, not talking about it, earns respect.

    Can’t wait.

    Wilfork Island?…LOL

    Who’s Wilfork?

  38. stanmark says: Nov 5, 2011 9:48 AM

the only WR that revis has stopped this year is Marshall. And that was only because Marshall continually dropped every ball, they weren’t defended.

  39. dynaco says: Nov 5, 2011 4:50 PM

    ————————————————–

Try to understand: Both years they won two consecutive weeks “in the playoffs” prior to loosing. Where was your team at that time?
