In case you needed to be reminded, Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan isn’t afraid to speak highly of himself.
Ryan may have been chastened for a day or two after the Cowboys’ embarrassing defensive performance against the Eagles on Sunday night, but by Friday he was back to bragging about his abilities, saying he thinks he’s the best in the NFL at his job, no matter how his defense looked against the Eagles.
“I take a lot of pride in my job,” Ryan said, via the Star-Telegram. “I’m the best at what I do. Every once in a while you throw a dud out there. You can’t be great if you can’t come back from one bad game.”
Ryan did acknowledge that he never should have called the Eagles the “all-hype team,” and that he needlessly gave Philadelphia some extra motivation.
“I put too much pressure on our guys, which is not what we want to do,” Ryan said. “That’s why I felt the whole thing was my fault, which it really was. It doesn’t happen very often. It’s not going to be a weekly press conference where I screw something up.”
So Ryan says he’s done talking bad about the opposition. But he’s not done talking up himself.
