Before today, the Jets had played three road games this season. And the Jets had lost them all.

Today, the Jets made the trek to Western New York for a crack at the previously 5-2 Bills, and many (including me) weren’t impressed by wins over the Dolphins and the Chargers. And so the Jets delivered perhaps their most impressive victory of the year, shutting down the Bills and pulling into a second-place tie with the Bills in the AFC East.

With only three total points scored in the first half, the Jets systematically pulled away from the Bills in the second half, via touchdown runs by LaDainian Tomlinson and John Conner and a touchdown reception by Santonio Holmes.

New York’s final points capped a 14-play, 84-yard drive, which gave the Jets a 27-3 lead in the fourth quarter. A late score by the Bills plus two-point conversion pushed the final score to 27-11.

The Jets dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for nearly 38 minutes.

The two teams are now tied at 5-3, behind the currently 5-2 Patriots. If the Pats lose to the Giants, there will be a three-way tie at the top of the division.

For Buffalo, a great started has given way to serious questions about whether they’ll end a postseason drought that extends back to 1999. Not long ago, the answer was a clear yes. Now, it’s not looking so good.
