Report: Vontae Davis wanted to rip Brandon Marshall’s head off

Brandon Marshall, Troy Nolam AP

The Miami Dolphins haven’t been a particularly interesting team to watch this season, but it sounds like things are getting interesting behind the scenes.

Jeff Darlington of NFL.com reports that a confrontation between Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis and Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall resulted in Davis wanting to rip Marshall’s head off.

According to the report, Marshall was talking trash “and crossed the line,” although it’s not clear exactly what Marshall said to set Davis off.

Davis was left home from the trip to Kansas City for today’s game against the Chiefs for what the Dolphins described as non-injury reasons. According to Darlington, Davis has been telling people it’s because of that altercation — but others around the Dolphins are saying that Davis is lying and he knows that’s not the real reason he was kept home from Kansas City.

So what is the reason Davis didn’t make the trip? Who knows? All we know is that, on the basis of this report, the Dolphins are every bit as dysfunctional behind closed doors as they are on the field.

Sometimes somethings are best left unsaid. Maybe this is one of them?

Crossing the line probably means he said something about Davis’ family (father/mother, siblings, wife/girlfriend) OR he questioned his sexual orientation.

    SUCH DISFUNCTION!

This is the kind of infighting that gets you to 0-16! Take that, level-headed Colts!

I thought pretty much everybody wanted to rip marshalls head off.

Davis might have a pending criminal matter the Fish are aware of. If that’s the case they should cut him so the vikequeens can pick him up during their bye week, they need corner help.

Also, if an arrest warrant is issued for Davis it will help the lavender Larry’s pad their league lead in having the most players arrested since the year 2000.

It would be a huge “win win” for the vikes.

@CKL..pfft that happens at virtually every single game beyond peewee, esp the SO cracks.

  11. dionoil says: Nov 6, 2011 8:06 AM

That kind of thing happens when a coach loses the locker room and the inmates run the asylum. (That’s not a dig on Marshall’s mental health issues )

  12. mezzadjs says: Nov 6, 2011 8:11 AM

Pretty sure Marshall would like to rip Marshall’s head off. Isn’t he bipolar?

  13. promickey says: Nov 6, 2011 8:16 AM

Wow, why the dysfunction? There are nine more games left to try and win a game.

It had to take much skill to acquire this talented bunch. (sarcasm)

Maybe Marshall was telling Davis the truth. ” Vontae, you are no D. REVIS!

Maybe so, but I’ve heard quite a few former players say you don’t want to go there with guys. Perhaps it’s more of a volume thing or depends on the exact nature of the trash talk (say the SO cheated…you keep bringing it up…boom ..roasted)

“Davis was left home from the trip to Kansas City”

He has to stay in sunny Miami instead of going to Kansas City in November. What is the problem here? Seems like the coaching staff did him a favor. Poor guy.

WOW!!! got the KC Spread on this one one (- 1 plus brought 3 points incase WR Brandon Marshall goes bipolar on OLB Tamba Hali & Defensive Lineman/DE Derick Johnson but I think it is going to be Hali & Johnson doing the sacking on Marshall ;-p

Andrew Luck, you paying attention? This is what you get to look forward to!

  20. smackingfools says: Nov 6, 2011 8:41 AM

Vontae Davis sucks anyway. Almost as bad as Sean Smith who is possibly the worst corner in Dolphins history.

  21. justentertainingthestupid says: Nov 6, 2011 8:46 AM

It’s really a shame this guy can’t get on the field. He’s one of the top corners in the game when healthy and not wanting to rip his own teamates head off.

  22. explosionsauce says: Nov 6, 2011 8:51 AM

Trade him to the 49ers and unite the Davis brothers!

  23. mackie66 says: Nov 6, 2011 8:54 AM

Marshalls ADDHD/bi-polar disorders rearing their ugly heads again? :-) How can you stop laughing? This sounds like a re-run of the Bart Simpson. Sparano still has the locker room,,,in stitches.

Speaking of the Dolphins secondary, how’s that “best tandem in the league” doing this year?

  25. essentialsausage says: Nov 6, 2011 9:08 AM

When did NFL’ers start whining to the media every time someone says something mean to them?

  26. danospleasanton says: Nov 6, 2011 9:08 AM

Just the type of garbage that should give Luck all the reason to force a trade to the Colts. He can say all the right things but Indy is a one hour flight from his parents home in West Virginia. Why would he want to go to a poorly run organization that would hinder his growth or retard his potential? The Dolphins are a joke but no one is laughing.

  27. swervinmervin says: Nov 6, 2011 9:09 AM

He probably questioned Vernon’s (Vontae’s brother who is the TE in SF) sexual orientation. Rumors have gone around about Vernon for years.

Either way, the fact that we know about any of these issues is Miami’s brass wanting to put everything out there so they can continue to suck for luck and not get called out for it. They put Henne on IR when he shouldnt have been on IR. Now the people in charge over there are making key players on their team inactive over stupid and petty disputes that happen on every team. But they leak info that makes things sound worse than they really are.

The ownership here is tanking it more than any other team Ive seen in recent memory. I just hope the team keeps fighting the way they have, and they may still win one or 2.

  28. raylewis52 says: Nov 6, 2011 9:14 AM

Don’t worry dolphins. Winning cures everything. Now if only they can actually do that…

Dolphins are a little bit dysfunctional? You mean like water is a little bit wet?

I don’t think Davis or Marshall are in any position to trash talk anyone at this point let alone each other.

This just makes me look forward to next year and the changes all that much more.

  34. steeelfann says: Nov 6, 2011 10:20 AM

Well, you bring a know idiot on to your team (i.e., same as bringing in Terrell Owens, etc), and what would you expect, eventually?

This should further cement Tony Sporano getting a new 5-year extension from Ross. Smooth running operation down there.

7 of Marshalls 9 personalities are complete morons. The other 2 are like 8 years old.

Best CB duo in the NFL….bwahahahahahhahahahaha

  38. danospleasanton says: Nov 6, 2011 11:16 AM

Vernon is the man. Just because the guy loves art and culture his manhood should not be questioned. Remember both he and his brother we raised by their mother. In school I learned men who are primarily raised by their mom tend to be a little more patient and listen better. Having said that I believe Vontae might have a million different reasons to pissed at BM. How about dropping perfect passes in a game he vowed to be ejected from? Maybe Brandon thought his coach would eject him for throwing the game.

  39. tatum064 says: Nov 6, 2011 11:26 AM

Vontae Davis is another idiot. Marshall tends to say the wrong things, but he can ball. Davis isnt nearly in the class of Revis Island. Both need to calm down and ball.

    Yay ignorance!

Sparano continues to fulfill his severance deal with Ross by completely failing to lead / keep order.

Colts don’t ave a chance against the Dolphins suck4luck juggernaut…. go Phins!
