Blackout lifted for Raiders-Chargers game

Malcolm Floyd, Michael Huff AP

It’s fitting, we suppose, that the Chargers would struggle to sell tickets when doing well, and would then do well selling tickets when struggling.

That’s precisely what has happened in advance of the upcoming 2011 debut of Thursday Night Football.  With two home games only four days apart, the Chargers chased a sellout of Sunday’s loss to the Packers with a sellout of the upcoming game against the Raiders.

Against the Packers, the Chargers drew the third largest crowd in Qualcomm Stadium history.  But the crowd of 68,908 contained more than a few Packers fans.  In fact, there were so many Cheeseheads in attendance that the Chargers at times had to use a silent count while on offense.

Mike – it’s real simple. The Chargers sold out the single seat tickets – by requiring you had to buy both the Green Bay and Raider home games, so the Cheeseheads have sold their 2nd ticket to the Raider fans. :)

Actually – the Raider fans will buy up as many tickets as they can find, and many Charger fans who have lost their “faith” – will sell for a nice profit.

I have a feeling there are gonna be a ton of Raider fans at this one. The stands and parking lot might look a little like that SF preseason game this past August. There are always a ton of fights at the Charger/Raiders games.

Sell-Outs…….we’re keeping our blackout streak alive in Tampa

    You have The Black Hole
    We have The Blackout Hole

This shouldn’t be news. There is always a lot of Raider fans at this game. The Chargers try to come up with gimmicks to minimize the Raider fans but it usually doesn’t work.

The guys in the stands wearing Raider jerseys will put up more of a fight than the guys on the field wearing Raider jerseys.

It’s a Raiders home game in Sandy Eggo.

Out of all the teams being mentioned as possibly moving to L.A., the Chargers make the most sense. They have an awful fanbase and the NFL wouldn’t need to realign the divisions if they moved.

I hope Bresnahan decides to do some coaching and Curry makes some tackles before the runner is 8 yards down field.

@xstaticonradio So if the Chargers have an awful fanbase, what makes you think it will change moving 100 miles north? Everyone up there is a Raider fan anyways and when the Raiders and Rams were in LA, they couldn’t sellout the stadium anyways so what’s the difference now? Good logic you have there.

If the Chargers are considered the Los Angeles team and subject to Blackouts…then why the hell did we not get the Packers/Chargers game last week! Instead we had the Jets/Bills…ugh

How weird was it watching this game?

It felt and sounded like the Packers were at home, that’s a really crappy fan base the Chargers have.

Security will be doubled than normal games, the only jumping you should be doing, is dry humping a Charger’s fan leg. Have a beer, relax, enjoy the game. I’m sure there will be enough Personal Foul unnecessary roughness calls on the field.

@ SD Chargers, ahh yes, Raiders advantage of a 9th home game every year.

Can’t wait to jump some Charger fans? Way to continue to live up to the negative image that most of us Raider fans are trying to shake. I hope you get arrested if you go looking for trouble.

Raiders fans are a joke in S.D. Most cant name the greats and are only there because they cant cross the checkpoint to get north…. Then when there asses are getting handed to them they bolt for the public trans/ or a stolen car at the start of the 3rd quarter!!!!!! CANT WAIT

  19. jphoops says: Nov 8, 2011 8:00 AM

Question, does this game count for fantasy points?

  20. shackdelrio says: Nov 8, 2011 8:49 AM

    L.A. Chargers

  21. dasmol says: Nov 8, 2011 9:28 AM

With loyal fans like the packers have, and the desperate raiduh fans from LA, a Charger fan can sell tix to these games and pay for the season. I think it sucks, but some do it.

And though SD has some pretty fair-weather fans, they’re not nearly as bandwagon or fair-weather as raiduh fans.

Say joetoronto, how many raiduh games have you been to?

At least Raider fans HAVE greats, unlike the DisChargers.

How’s that empty trophy case looking. :)

  25. huejackson says: Nov 8, 2011 11:33 AM

Yeah I encourage all Raider fans to beat up as many Charger fans as possible…
Raiders probably won’t win the game so lets make sure we win the fight with the fans..
Nothing was more fun then watching Raider fans beat up the Pats fans the last time…
Pats won the game but The fans won the war…
Remember the guy in the Brady jersey getting on his knees saying “yes Pats suck, please Raider nation Im a little b*tch no more” Then the Pats fans girl left with a Raider fan! HAHA she laughed at her poor excuse for a boyfriend..
(that story* should get some people mad)

Wow. That’s amazingly pathetic. An entire ‘nation’ of fans, and they can’t sell out even 50% of their games.

    Talk about bandwagon and fairweather.

  27. radrntn says: Nov 8, 2011 12:05 PM

gotta love that the raider nation will be out in full force in San Diego on Thursday night.

    Go Raiders!

  28. bambamraider says: Nov 8, 2011 12:19 PM

It’s the Chargers Versus the RAIDERS in RAIDER COUNTRY….Of course they’re going to sell out….it’s simply another home game for the Raiders….only easier for the L.A. Raider fans to travel to!

  29. bambamraider says: Nov 8, 2011 12:25 PM

Chargers….if their team can’t even win a play off game….let alone get to a championship….should they even be allowed to post messages about the nfl? I mean….they obviously have no clue…..

  30. bambamraider says: Nov 8, 2011 12:28 PM

Chargers to L.A.?? Don’t make me laugh…they can’t even sell out in San Diego…exactly what do they expect is going to happen if they play in Raider Country Headquarters #2????
