On Monday, Bills coach Chan Gailey said there was a chance defensive tackle Kyle Williams’ season was over.

It came to fruition on Tuesday when the team announced Williams will be placed on injured reserve with the left foot injury that has been a problem for him all season. The decision came after Williams visited a foot specialist in North Carolina, although there’s not yet any word about whether Williams will need surgery to repair the injury.

“You never breathe easy when you lose an All-Pro player,” Gailey said. “That is a huge loss for our football team when he’s not in the game. Not only by his play, but by his leadership and the energy he brings to the game.”

Williams played the first five games of the season, but he never quite looked like the player that he was when he was named All-Pro in 2010. He finishes the year with nine tackles.

Marcell Dareus has played in the middle of the line with Williams absent in the last three games. The rookie has done a nice job for the Bills, but they will still need some other players to step up if they are going to end their long postseason drought this season.
