Steelers’ Sanders undergoes surgery; Ward expected to return

Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will not return to the lineup for Pittsburgh’s game against the Bengals this week because he underwent knee surgery, coach Mike Tomlin announced on Tuesday via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Sanders, who was starting to emerge as a third receiver, will be out a couple of weeks.

Tomlin does expect to have Hines Ward available against Cincinnati despite suffering concussion-like symptoms.

“Concussion-like symptoms” has sadly become code for “It’s a concussion but we want him to play.”

  1. I’m not saying the Bengals should be ranked higher, more that the Steelers shouldn’t be ranked as high as they are.

  2. At least the Steelers kept Polamalu and Ward out of the game when they’ve had “concussion-like symptoms.” The league says don’t let them back in the game, and the Steelers are listening with regards to player safety.

Unlike other teams (I’m talking about the Jets with Keller, the Eagles with Vick, and I’m sure a few others). Polamalu and Ward both had their helmets taken away from them after the asked to be put back in.

  3. Ward doesnt have any brains in his head anyway so why not let him play? Id love to see someone take out his knee as he is nothing but a cheap shot artist like most steeler players past and present

  4. That pic looks like he’s saying “Did Joe Flacco just do that?!?!” lol To all these bungle fans who are really feeling themselves right now, please talk when your team is the hunt a month from now. Until then, nobody take’s you serious and due to your history you have earned that label. Now if you prove us all wrong…good but try to take my name and use it in the meantime.
    ( Stay Humble)

  5. Hines is racing towards 1,000 catches and is running out of games.

He needs 20 catches in the remaining 7 games. He cannot afford to take a game off, and certainly doesn’t want to come back for a 15th year, just to get a few catches.

stop crying big baby and I call BS….you know full well he is one of the best in the league and you’d sell your momma to get him on your team….Boo Hoo Hoo!

  7. Time to wake up Bengal fans, the big boys are coming to town! You all better hope Andy Dalton doesn’t suffer the same fate that Carson Palmer did, does Kimo Von Oelhoffens name ring a bell!!! GOING DOWN step children of the AFC North!!

  8. Good – he’s the 4th or 5th best receiver on that team now -when he’s in it’ll make it much easier on our d-backs.

  9. Seeing hines crawl around lost on all fours like the dog he is was almost as good as flacco’s winning touchdown pass! Glad he only has concussion like symptons and can go back in their and hurt his team while he tries to get to 1k catches. The drunk dancer needs to hang it up!

  10. steeler wrote at least they kept him out of the game

are you kidding me, Hines could not stand up. He looked really old out there anyway. They should have grabbed Derick Mason

  11. The NFL’s focus on “player safety” is (and will remain) a farce until players are no longer allowed to remain in games after staggering around the field. It remains a joke when a player has “concussion-like symptoms,” yet is allowed to practice and play. If the league was serious, they would begin handing out fines to the teams who are quite obviously flaunting the concussion rules (instead of just giving fines to players for illegal hits).

Time for the mirage that is the Bengals record to be destroyed

    ===============

Hey genius, the Steeler’s SOV (Strength of Victory) percentage is actually LOWER than the Bengals.

Keep talking about our easy schedule – stats don’t lie and the stats show that we’ve beat better teams.

  13. “Concussion-like symptoms” has sadly become code for “It’s a concussion but we want him to play.”

looks like this article is code for “the steelers wouldn’t answer our questions and we’re still a little whiny over it.”

  14. Did someone really say Ward is one of the best in the league?
Even when he was at his peak (which he is nowhere near now), he was a good WR who fit his system well. He was NEVER in the elite group of WR’s in the league. He’s not even a starter these days, and it’s not because the Steelers WR corp is so good, it is because he’s not good enough to be an NFL starter anymore

  15. Steelers have a pretty good history of keeping hurt players out, including Clark last year for the Denver game with his illness. Hines was hurt and was not even close to being put back in the game.

I wasn’t aware that Sanders was injured so that is a surprise, and just another in a long list of injuries to important players that Steelers have had to deal with this year. Probably a longer list of key players than most teams, but oh well…

I see Ravens fans are still peeing their pants over winning their second Super Bowl this past weekend! Great for them! One of these days such a win won’t seem that big. Maybe it will seem routine or expected, much like most Steeler fans take winning against most teams. And remember folks, it only matters if you win in the playoffs. The final win is the one that means the most.

Then we have some Bengals fans banging their chests! Glad you have something to cheer about with your surprisingly good record. But you should probably wait until you beat us consistently before mouthing off. Your next 2 weeks, you have to wear big boy pants.

    GO STEELERS!!

  16. I dont care who beat who. What their record was or anything. All I know is come sunday in cincinnati…we will see how steelers bounce back & see if the bungles are a contendor or a pretender! I think we all know. But lets wait and see. Then after the game post all are bungles jokes!

Hey Einstein, he never said anything about the Steelers having a tougher schedule. Both teams have beaten a lot of soft teams.

Having said that, the Steelers aren’t the team that needs to prove that they deserve respect.

The Steelers have rule the AFC North roost for the majority of the last seven years. The only times you guys have won the division, you were one pump chumps in the playoffs. And those playoff appearances were a completely different team than you have now.

  18. Despite anyones records… rivals ALWAYS shine during divisional games…How many years have we watched the lowly Bengals n Browns line up on a sunday against the Steelers or the Ravens for that matter and make a game of it?? Thats just how it is….. GO STEELERS!!!!

  19. The Steelers are set at receiver with Wallace and Brown. And Sanders could end up being a very dangerous 3rd guy. The Ravens young secondary is also a really nice group of talent. Lardarius Webb, Cary Williams, and Jimmy Smith.

I don’t think the Ravens/Steelers rivalry is going to lose steam anytime soon. It’s a great thing for football fans. The Ravens lost their most dependable receiver in Mason, the Steelers are soon going to have to let Hines Ward go. But these teams have done a great job of keeping their rosters replenished annually.

  20. antibenpalooza, you’re quoting the Bible now? You are one scary Raven. But it’s nice to know you have so little confidence in your sweep LOL

  21. So you have to threaten Dalton’s knee? How proud you all must be. Dirtiest players in football!
