Getty ImagesCornerback Leigh Bodden’s release by the Patriots took a lot of people by surprise.
He didn’t immediately get another job (he worked out for the Chiefs), and now we know why. His agent Alvin Keels revealed Thursday that Bodden just underwent surgery for a herniated disc in his back.
Bodden suffered the injury in Week One against the Dolphins and played through it to increasingly poor results. Bodden, who signed a nice contract after the 2009 season, hasn’t been fully healthy for a complete game since he signed that deal.

Sucks. Solid, hard-working corner. Wasn’t his agent just saying that he’s healthy and ready to go? Pfff.
Maybe he’ll get back to good health and return to NE some day.
When it comes to reasons why teams don’t ‘Pay the man’, guys like Bodden are exhibit A.
hmmmm….can’t he get a big paycheck now that he was released while injured?
We expect a post deriding the Patriots for cutting a guy who is injured at any moment…
Thanks so much,

This sounds like what happened with Garrard. Not hurt enough for an injury settlement but when looking at the job market decided that getting a health issue cleaned up was better than the alternative for now.
