Andre Johnson will remain out through bye

Andre Johnson AP

When Andre Johnson first hurt his hamstring, it was estimated he might only miss 2-3 games.

Coach Gary Kubiak announced Friday that Johnson will miss his sixth straight game on Sunday because of the slow-healing injury.

The decision makes a lot of sense. Houston finally gets a bye next week, and the team is winning without Johnson. They can rely on Arian Foster and Ben Tate to take apart Tampa’s soft run defense. Houston’s defense has been on a roll and should be able to slow down a struggling Josh Freeman.

The news elsewhere was good on the injury front: Texans DE Antonio Smith, T Eric Winston and NT Earl Mitchell all returned to practice and will play.

Houston plays at Tampa Sunday. There aren’t many challenging games left on the Texans’ schedule. If they win games like this, team will have a great chance to get a bye in the playoffs.

Rest up Andre. When you get back, the Texans offense will be a juggernaut that will roll them to a first round bye and possible # 1 seed.

Late first round pick instead of Calvin. What was I thinking?

Smart move. Give him basically 2 more weeks to heal up. Will need a healthy A.J. for a top 2 seed and bye in the playoffs, then a run to the Super Bowl.

Tired of this guy always being mentioned as the best WR in the NFL, how could he be when he misses way more games than he plays in?

Lol a run at the super bowl. If there lucky they will pull a Seahawks and will there first round game. If there lucky. Just remember these are the Teaxans they’ve blown more big games than they’ve won. I hope they at least make the playoffs

    MVPolamalu,

Notice any stark difference regarding the Texans’ relative success in his absence?
