Report: Rex Grossman will start Sunday against Dolphins

Washington Redskins Rex Grossman fumbles the ball as he is hit by Dallas Cowboys Anthony Spencer in their NFL game in Texas Reuters

We passed along a report on Saturday from the Washington Post saying that Rex Grossman split practice reps with John Beck during the week.

That led to speculation John Beck will be a short leash Sunday in Miami. It turns out Beck is off the leash.

Rex Grossman will start against the Dolphins, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, who says Mike Shanahan informed the team of the decision over the weekend. A league source tells PFT that Grossman was prepared to start, but didn’t officially know if he’d get the call as of last night.

This was supposed to be John Beck’s triumphant return to Miami.  Instead, he’ll watch the game where he watched most games as a Dolphin: From the sideline.

It was stupid to bench him in the first place.

The Dolphins front office must be so angry that they didn’t get a cance to build a ticket campaign around this game for Rex Grossman Day with more Gator fan celebration. Spurrier is off today they could have flown him in.

Such morons in the Dolphins ticket office.

Shanahan is feeling the heat to win now or be fired by the “big man”.

So…Both are terrible QB’s. Flip flopping like this is never a good thing when you want stability and continuity on the offense.

I hate me some Redskins but it was a shame he lost his starter gig after that Eagles game.

Shanahan is proving to be quite the ineffectual leader yet again.. Not so much a genius anymore

This is so embarrassing for both Shanahan’s.

To steal a quote…”if you have 2 quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks”. Next year’s starting quarterback is not on the roster yet.

Rex will play really well this week and the Redskins will win.

Then, he’ll revert back to typical Rex state next week.

Rex never should have been benched but Shanny gave into the media hatred. Letting the media run your team isn’t working in Denver and it hasn’t worked in Washington. Go Rex, beat Miami.

ps. Just a hunch but look for former UM’er Leonard Hankerson get deep for a long TD from Rex this afternoon.

Say what you want about Grossman, but he gives the Redskins the best chance to win this year. He has games where he turns the ball over but he also has those games where he plays extremely well.

Grossman with average skill players on offense and a good defense will get some wins. He is superior to Beck. He played better than McNabb last year. Bad Rex is pretty bad but Good Rex is better than the starter for several teams.

If he could be consistent he could eventually shake the bad reputation. He had several of the league’s best QB performances the Bears SB year, but he had some of the worst games as well…too bad most fans only remember the bad games.
