Kappy,

"You mean Casey Matthews isn’t your savior? I remember Eagle fans praising him on here as the second coming. "

Again, I'm not sure where you get this. I'd estimate that 95% of the people I talked to and 80% of the calls into WIP / 950 believed that this kid was an undersized liability at MLB.

After game 1, that went to 99%. After game 2, that went to 100%.

You'd have to have been living in this city to know that the LB corps, and Casey in particular, have been a source of concern if not derision since the lockout ended.

Eagleswin,

That's not the main point. Would I pay Jackson as an elite WR? No way. So if he's asking for a huge deal, I;m fine with letting him walk or dealing him.

But you cannot deny that when these players don't sign to the number the Eagles want, all of a sudden you start to see negative stories leaked to the press.

And you cannot deny that they are rarely if ever adequately replaced.

As an eagles fan, I have to say they are f@&&$n terrible. Jacksons days as an eagle are slowly coming to an end. At this point the FO isn’t even gonna franchise him bc that’d be like 10 mill for one year. Get a new coach, some LBs, trade a CB and stop being SOFT.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You mean Casey Matthews isn't your savior? I remember Eagle fans praising him on here as the second coming. All you need to do is look at the guy & realize he is FAR away from his brother talent-wise. Also, don't talk about your "FO" like it's something special; they have a lot of egg on their face this season. They ignored glaring holes at LB & OL to go after the big named FA who has been showing he's not the elite CB people thought he was. Here's 4 names for you & guess what they all have in common: Jacquian Williams; Greg Jones; Mark Herzlich; and Spencer Paysinger. Can't guess what it is? I'll tell you... They are all on the Giants; they all play LB; they were all drafted after Matthews or signed as undrafted free agents; and they're all better than Casey Matthews & anyone of them would provide an immediate, significant upgrade over your current LBs. Your great "FO" dropped the ball on that one. Ask the Jets & Redskins, championships are won on the field, not during the offseason through contract negotiations & signings. More importantly, you build through the draft & supplement through free agency if you want to have periods of sustained success in the NFL.

moochzilla says:

When, after all, have the Eagles actively sought to assassinate the character of a player who wouldn’t take a below market deal?

Oh, all the time? Ya don’t say.

Sheldon, Gaither, Runyan, Jackson, Trotter.

Which is fine, if they didn’t consistently replace these guys with far inferior talent.
------------------------------

Reign it in. You have been way off base with your rants.

Trotter took the highest offer, failed miserably, and came back to the Eagles telling the world he made a mistake by leaving.

Omar has only started 3 games for the panthers this year.

Runyan played 5 games with the Chargers (as a backup) after the Eagles let him go and then retired.

Brown is the only one who has had any impact on his team post Eagles.

The fact is, the Eagles front office is usually correct when they let players go. Very few players that they let go come back to bite them.

Just because someone offers you more money doesn't mean that your play is worth it or more importantly, that your talents fit the scheme the team is running.

For example, the Eagles bring in some of the best Man to man corners in the game and then proceed to have them playing zone defense most of the season. They have DRC playing the slot corner when his best attribute is his deep speed because they don't want to upset Asante.

You can blast the Eagles for that but you can't blast them for the players they let go.

Yeah, let’s teach that uppity Desean who’s boss!

Let’s ignore that he’s pretty much the key to our offense!

Today, you saw what a Jackson-less offense is, total trash. Without him stretching the defense and dragging the safeties back 20 yards:

1) Maclin and Celek’s underneath routes were covered

2) Vick was way easier to contain

3) McCoy had far less running room

4) The team scored 10 points on offense despite the Cardinals turning the ball over several times

So, yeah…he doesn’t matter. Maybe we can draft his replacement with the #10 pick in the draft, because this offense doesn’t work without him.

----------------------------------------

McCoy averaged just short of 6 yards a carry. Maclin was injured early and Celek had his 3rd best receiving game of the season.

The only thing you have correct is that Vick looked horrible today without his top 2 WRs. The real question is, with your QB looking like a 3rd string backup, why don't you pound the ball with the RB averaging nearly 6yards/carry?

Why not run the ball when you are up in the 4th quarter with a hot RB?

Coaching was the main issue today on both sides of the ball.

"Here’s a novel idea, maybe the fact that he’s an injury risk is why he isn’t getting a huge deal? "

And maybe Reid shouldn't have made the entire offense dependent on his presence?

Jackson didn't decide his market value...Reid did.

Or did you miss today's game? And the joke of an offensive?

I remember Fred Barnett and Calvin looked awesome when Keith Jackson was commanding attention. People said they'd still produce, we didn't need to pay Keith. Didn't work out.

I remember Clyde Simmons was a top 5 sack guy with Reggie White opposite him. People said we could let Reggie go and Clyde would get 18 sacks a year. Didn't work out.

This IS NOT BASKETBALL. It is a team sport, and the performance of the individual players is dependent on their teammates. And Jackson commands A LOT of attention.

When, after all, have the Eagles actively sought to assassinate the character of a player who wouldn't take a below market deal?

Oh, all the time? Ya don't say.

Sheldon, Gaither, Runyan, Jackson, Trotter.

Which is fine, if they didn't consistently replace these guys with far inferior talent.

I love how the Jackson fans are saying he's a small guy and is being safe so he can get his payday. Here's a novel idea, maybe the fact that he's an injury risk is why he isn't getting a huge deal? So you're openly campaigning for your team to pay a guy that the team and he knows is one play away from being paid for nothing.

Sorry, Jackson deserves what he got. Saying the team cant win without him is just flat stupid. Had they known he would get deactivated 24hrs before kickoff than im sure during the week they would have gotten Smith in there getting more rep's. They would have game planned for no Djax. I think they should trade his ass in the off season. His 1 route wonder is old and not worth the money. We can draft other fast guys if needed and get the same results. No team will pay him Fitz $$ to run 1 route non-stop.

This is one of the rare occasions that I agree with the player in this sort of situation. DeSean has massively outperformed his rookie contract and just watched the team shell out millions for outsiders. At the same time the Eagles have made it clear they plan to franchise DeSean rather than work out a fair deal.

Why should DeSean give a crap about the Eagles at this point? He's right: stay healthy and hope the Eagles don't use the tag so that he can get market value after the season.

DeSean Jackson is one of the most overrated players in the NFL & his attitude is absolute sh*t. This guy is more concerned with maintaining hig "gangsta rep" than he is working his tail off to become a great player. If anyone follows the guy on Twitter, you know what I'm talking about. The guy comes off like a completely uneducated fool in his posts, intentionally misspelling words & attempting to come off hard. Keyshawn Johnson was probably correct when he implied that Jackson was broke. During the lockout offseason, the top players & the hungry players worked out in groups (not necessarily team groups) to prepare for the lifting of the lockout. Additionally, even the highest paid players were saving there money, not knowing when a constant rvenue stream was going to return. Jackson, on the other hand, was traveling the country with his "recording artists" from his failed record label endeavor, JACCPOT Records. He was also posting pictures of tabs & receipts from NY & LA clubs for $17,000-$25,000 on drinks & VIP rooms. In all the pictures he posted, there wasn't a fellow Eagles player in one photo of his entourage. Instead, he was hanging out with a bunch of disheveled looking hood rats. I can guarantee you that not a single one of them was picking up even part of those tabs. Instead of spending money he didn't have on a bunch of clowns who only liked him for his green, he should have been preparing for this season. His lack of preparation has shown numerous times. His stamina is shot & can't stay on the field for longer than 4 straight plays; he's getting jammed at the line by small corners; and his effort is lacking in that he's stopping routes short & not going full-out for catchable balls. His numbers for his first few years were averaged, middle of the pack for NFL WRs. To put his overrated stats into perspective, Victor Cruz is on pace to top Jackson's best receptions, yards & TD numbers in any given season & Cruz didn't become a full-time starter until week 3. When you're going to pay a player top position dollars, there is more than just numbers that goes into the evaluation: leadership; work ethic; respect for the coaches; etc. Jackson fails in every intangible aspect of the game & doesn't deserve to get paid. If he does get his money, he'll blow through it on another misspelled record label. Maybe he should buy a spelling tutor instead.

Yeah, let's teach that uppity Desean who's boss!

Let's ignore that he's pretty much the key to our offense!

Today, you saw what a Jackson-less offense is, total trash. Without him stretching the defense and dragging the safeties back 20 yards:

1) Maclin and Celek's underneath routes were covered

2) Vick was way easier to contain

3) McCoy had far less running room

4) The team scored 10 points on offense despite the Cardinals turning the ball over several times

So, yeah...he doesn't matter. Maybe we can draft his replacement with the #10 pick in the draft, because this offense doesn't work without him.

And who decided that the offense would be overly dependent on his presence? Andy Reid! The GM that won't go to bat for him money-wise!

It may be a sound decision not to pay Desean, but don't whine that the offense doesn't work anymore.
