Stafford played with broken finger

Detroit Lions v Denver Broncos Getty Images

Matthew Stafford has an excuse for his spotty accuracy Sunday against the Bears. His right index finger was broken.

Stafford said after the game that it’s “not bad” according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press.

The results in the game don’t seem to support Stafford’s notion.  He threw four interceptions and sailed passes all day.

The injury apparently occurred in Detroit’s game before the bye week against Denver. Stafford was listed as probable on the injury report.

The Lions’ 5-0 start has quickly turned into a 6-3 record. They have a challenging schedule down the stretch, but will be favored heavily this week against Carolina before the team’s big Thanksgiving game against Green Bay.

Yeah much worse than a broken rib and punctured lung, so I guess this scrub gets a pass on his pick 6′s and shoddy play…plus he plays for the Lions so this is really a non story

  2. schmokes says: Nov 13, 2011 9:24 PM

Didn’t seem to affect his ability to grab the bear’s face mask, then run away from the fight.

  3. nflpuppetmaster says: Nov 13, 2011 9:24 PM

It didn’t seem to bother him when he was throwing DJ Moore down by his head.

  4. philtration says: Nov 13, 2011 9:25 PM

And Hester was not supposed to play at all yet he returned a punt for a TD and almost busted two more.
    Poor Matt.

    Man up frog boy.

  5. metalhead65 says: Nov 13, 2011 9:26 PM

and now the excuses start. to bad for you the bears owned your bitch ass today. yea what big man you are taking down the littlest guy on the field by his face mask then running away when the fighting started.

  6. staffordsyear says: Nov 13, 2011 9:29 PM

I knew it! He’s never played that poorly, get it fixed and we can put this one behind us and continue are run to the playoffs.

  7. smithysmitherson says: Nov 13, 2011 9:33 PM

It looked fine when he was throwing D.J. Moore onto the ground by his helmet.

  8. starbuckaddict says: Nov 13, 2011 9:35 PM

And if the Lions won this game we would have never heard about his broken finger. For a team that likes to talk they really know how to keep it going even in a loss.

  9. chobes68 says: Nov 13, 2011 9:37 PM

With all the whining and crying on the field, I would have thought his problems were more below the belt. What time of the month is it?

to everyone saying facemask. Did you watch the game? it was the back of the helmet. he also didn’t run away. he was underneath like 5 people. I love how people make things sound worse then they really are.

  12. rowhe says: Nov 13, 2011 9:56 PM

Why in the world did he even play? Shaun Hill is there for just that reason, if not even Drew Stanton. Stupid choice by the coaching staff.

“Why are you prancing all the way to the commissioner’s office and you almost ripped somebody’s helmet off? Are you kidding me? You don’t know that’s against the rules? That’s a wasted trip. … He almost ripped Jake Delhomme’s head off. That doesn’t make any sense.”

I mentioned this earlier, but Detroit, your QB squats when he pees.

Seriously, the Lions are classless frauds and everyone saw it. Stafford can stick his broken finger up his mangina, Suh was only mentioned when he ripped Jay’s helmet off and the team in general just got ruined.

It’s only going to get worse…

Bears fans can’t get enough of this win.

Stafford never used his finger as an excuse for the loss today but it was pretty damn obvious that it was affecting his accuracy.

Bears should be lucky the lions gift wrapped this one for you. It was obvious Forte wasn’t going any where on our defense and Cutler was real elite…9 completions.

Everything just went against the lions today. big deal we won our home game you won yours. We are tied for second in our division.

  18. primetime0552 says: Nov 13, 2011 10:05 PM

also love all the whining by bears fans. I’m glad to see tough football back in the nfc north. remember when it was the black and blue division? quit whining already!

  19. dirkdeez says: Nov 13, 2011 10:08 PM

First it was the wind now it’s a finger when will the excuses stop. Just let the bears win victoriously because they never get do credit when they play well.

Yep, the only difference is your team is going to sink real fast. Cutler and Forte didn’t have to do anything, the Lions were just handing the ball over.

Please. If this was flipped you’d be falling all over yourself proclaiming validation that your team is going to the Super Bowl.

But since it’s your team on the losing end, “yeah, we gave you that one.”

  22. oren120 says: Nov 13, 2011 10:20 PM

I love everyone screaming that Stafford is whining about it and/or using it as an excuse. He said it was “not bad” and everyone is freaking out like he said “It hurts like hell and I can’t throw a ball. That’s the only reason the Bears won.”

    Get over yourselves.

  23. snarkzilla says: Nov 13, 2011 10:23 PM

Cutler was 9-19 and the Bears’ O was ineffectual, but the Lions still found a way to lose disgracefully.

  24. metalhead65 says: Nov 13, 2011 10:26 PM

hey boogie sauce the difference is when everything went against the bears in the lions home win the bears did not resort to cheap shots and dirty play. your team has been exposed and gone 1-3 since that game. meanwhile the bears are on a roll and unlike the lions will make the playoffs.

Accept the fact that you were substantially outplayed today.

Isnt this the guy who threw a game winning touchdown WITH a seperated shoulder, holy sh!t half the people on here dont watch the game and just go with what pft says.

  32. mikehockhurtz says: Nov 13, 2011 11:12 PM

Stafford played with a fractured Uterus.

  33. klunge says: Nov 13, 2011 11:12 PM

So leaving him in there in this condition can go on the list of other blunders the coaching staff made today. In any case, Lions made lots of blunders and there’s no room for that against a decent quality team like the Bears who capitalized on every one of them today.

I don’t understand all the venom and hatred all the sudden, and all the “Ha I knew they were frauds all along!” BS. You didn’t know anything of the sort and neither did any pro analysts, who still probably don’t think that. Baltimore was considered legit SB contenders but has the same record, are they frauds? They’ve lost to worse teams too. (No I don’t think Ravens are frauds, just proving a point)

Lions are good, but reality is that several games this year they played below capability and were lucky to escape with the W. They can’t get away with that anymore, it’s crunch time now and they need to pull it together.

  34. fruityromo says: Nov 13, 2011 11:20 PM

Broken finger? Ok. Ronnie Lott would have had the medical staff just cut it off, if it interfered with his game.

Stafford, I love this Detroit story, hang in there, us Americans, love the underdog. :)

  35. tdk24 says: Nov 13, 2011 11:26 PM

  41. bigboi30 says: Nov 14, 2011 12:51 AM

You Bear fans are pathetic. Out of all the teams we play, you so called fans are the worst. Crawl back into your parents basement where you belong. Its the end of the world if Stafford or Suh does something, but yet it ok for Peppers to slam Stafford on his head and clothsline Megatron, almost taking his head off. Briggs, missile dives into Megatron helmet to helmet. And wait wasnt it Moore who got the penalty and ejection? You all are nothing more the gum flapping hypocrits that cry when things dont go your way. At least us Lions fans stand by our team. Yeah you won 4 in a roll, whoopeee. Enjoy the band wagon loosers (fortealltheway). The Bears may have won, but at what cost. Say what you say about Suh, cause that Bear Defence today played some of the dirtiest football ever. Thank god were done with you all this year. Go a head talk your blah blah blah at me, I dont care. Just like the Lions were done with you. Enjoy the playoffs at home in your parents basement.

Worst thing is I came here to congrate the Bears on a win, it wasnt pretty but its a win. So to the Bear fans that have a little respect, good game. That is football and how its supposed to be played. Warriors going to war. A true NFC North battle.

And for the crybaby Bear fans, get lost. This sport isnt for you, try soccer. Im done with you. I wipe you from my shoe like the dirt you are

    ====================================
What a moronic comment. Stafford pulled down a guy by his helmet and the Bears player got called for the penalty. It had nothing to do with Stafford taking anyone down too hard.

Chicago isn’t Detroit’s little brother. They’ve been beating Detroit like the rest of the NFL has for years. And as far as cities go, we can go see what Beirut, Lebanon is like just by going to Detroit.

  45. mwcarolina says: Nov 14, 2011 1:30 AM

First off, the fans who are bashing on Stafford are just sounding dumber and dumber, i mean seriously. complaining about what he did to a cornerback, i mean it’s not like Stafford plays defense or is the best blocker, as for his poor play, he is NOT making the excuse and he played the WHOLE game, so he manned up there. now for my FAVORITE line.

Plus CAR & MINN will not be gimmees. Good luck with that.
    ———————————————————
Minnesota will be a toughie, but Carolina, please. Carolina’s defense is very poor, just pass to Johnson and Pettigrew and the Lions win, get in a shootout with the panthers and the lions win, the panthers defense sucks. they cant cover the TE, they have issues with WRs who are huge, i see that being a shootout that Detroit wins 45 to 31.

@Primetime0552- Your really full of it, guy. Stafford clearly had him hooked behind the helmet as well as in the facemask. Speaking on Bears fans “whining” Mayhap you should look at yourself as well as certain Lions fans. Your team is dirty. Your team is cheap. Your team is mentally weak. Just like the coach. I admit I’d like to see the Lions contend for the NFC North title but not the way they play, act and talk. I did like the team and respected them and loved the Bears/Lions matchups because no matter how pathetic a season the Lions were having they always gave the Bears a hard time. No longer. Not so long as they have Stafford, Suh or Schwarz.
