"Good Job Kid. Proof Smith is way better than Aaron Rogers."

I guess the other 22 teams that passed on Rodgers have way better QBs too. I mean who wouldn't pick Thomas Davis, David Pollack, Erasmus James, Alex Barron and Matt Jones ahead of Rodgers? I don't know who your team is but I bet Rodgers is better than their QB too. Maybe they should have taken him.

while Alex Smith may not be Andrew Luck, he is clearly more than capable of leading this team deep into the playoffs. Time for the critics to shut up and eat crow.
———————————————————
And when the 49ers lose their first game of the playoffs, we will be here to remind you of who and what Alex Smith really is. He is about 10% of how good Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, and Rodgers are. I’d bet money Peyton as he is injured now would still make the 49ers offense better than it is with Smith. He will not win you anything. The others will and more importantly, HAVE.

-------------------------------------------------

so has Trent Dilfer, and Alex Smith is surely better and more efficient than he was. there goes your opinion, right out the window. :)

smith has played in all kinds of systems bow.

there isnt a system, play or situation he hasnt seen, now.

i have seen lots of veteran QBs with similar checkered backgrounds all of a sudden become very good.

they do look like the 81 niners. and no one took them seriously till they led the bengals 20-0 at half in the super bowl. dallas is still reeling from 'the catch'.

Off topic – but On-Point Gang. We can help the Niners dominate the Pro Bowl.
Each of our players match up, position by position across the board, with their counterpart. And in many areas, ours stand alone. Please – go to NFL.com often and vote over and over. Let’s make it happen. “On three – Niners Dominate!” Thanx.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, but I think that's getting a little carried away. Frank Gore is maybe Top 5 at NFC RB, but not Top 3. Is Alex Smith top 3 at QB in the NFC? Don't think so. How about WR? Any of them top 5? You should have better luck on the Defensive side, but please don't say "position by position across the board".

Alex Smith is a decent quarterback, but I think that we are getting a little too excited about him right now. He has been good this year; however, people had been calling for his head in SF for the past 5 or 6 seasons. At this point, I think he still has a lot to prove. Furthermore, I think his success yesterday had more to do with the Giants not getting a great pass rush, which helped expose how bad their line backers and at some times even the corners are in man coverage. The Giants often stacked the box with both safeties against run formation, which left their corners on an island. For the most part SF took advantage of this. There were open receivers all over the place throughout the entire game. Most of Smith's incomplete passes were entirely his fault. He missed Braylon Edwards on a slant route that would have been a touchdown, and at one point he walked right into Umenyoira to force himself to throw an incompletion with open receivers down field. The point is that Smith still has a long way to go, and against better secondaries he will have an extremely rough time producing without a run game.He better hope Gore gets his ankle healthy soon.

So far, so good. They have 2 definite losses coming v. Pittsburgh and Baltimore, but should cruise until their eventual annihilation at Green Bay, but they could surprise some teams, and to be honest Seattle could surprise them up at Century Link. But, this is a breakthrough season thanks to Harbaugh and a consistent defense."

--------------

Speaking as a Bear's fan, I like the 49er team, they're built to do damage in the playoffs.

I don't necessarily agree with Baltimore and Pitt being two losses. Pittsburgh doesn't scare teams, as in years past, and Baltimore wets the bed each time they have the opportunity to step away from the pack.

And speaking of the Pack. There is not one team that is head and shoulders ahead of all others, including the Pack. At least until/if they get their 'D' squared away. They're probably still the favs, but they're not as far away as some might assume.

Alex Smith is a good quarterback. He makes the right decisions, and he's good when it matters most.
He goes through his reads quickly. Sure he checks down a lot, but a check down is better than an interception.

you have to have some respect for any QB getting their team to 8-1. they have won 3 road games against good teams.

Im certainly not chalking a win up for my team (Steelers) in a few weeks out there.

however, next year they will have a division-winner schedule. that will prove how good of a long-term team this is.

Alex Smith's last 15 games:

19:4 TD/INT ratio, 2,850 yards, 61% completion rate (64% in '11), 11-4 record

Alex Smith has been nothing, if not, efficient this year. Flashy play or gaudy stats? Nope. Given the road he's traveled, most clear-minded Niners fans should be ecstatic just to see that Smith's shown consistently measured improvement week-to-week while taking care of the ball. Whether organizational upheaval, "savior" expectations despite a nearly talent-less roster in '05, injuries or simply being too far into his own head, Smith looks to finally be shedding the paralysis-by-(over)analysis style of play that's plagued him most of his career.

Sprinkle in the ineptitude of the Singletary regime constituting 6 games of aforementioned production, and it further cements Smith's upward-trending progression.

Aaron Rodgers he is not (insert Capt. Obvious jokes)...but Smith should have been so lucky to have enjoyed the learning curve Rodgers did.

Any reasonable person will agree that the 49ers are a solid team. Capable of beating any other team in the NFL. There's not a whole lot of options an opposing offense has going up against these guys. On the other other side, they showed that they can win relying on the arm of Smith. He good. I think if they meet again in the playoffs and Gore is healthy, Giants fans will be dissapoint. I also think the Packers' fans are in for a big surprise when these two teams meet in the arena they both seem to be on a collision course for. Just accept it. The 9ers are an elite team this year.
