The Colts are now two games ahead in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, with only six games to play.
Only four teams are stuck at two wins: St. Louis, Miami, Minnesota, and Carolina. It’s very easy to see those teams winning at least another game.
Could the Colts get to two or even three wins? Unless the answer is yes, the Colts are going to have the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft. And Peyton Manning has supposedly given his blessing to draft a quarterback there.
“The bottom line is that if the right person is there, and it has to be the right person, then now is the time to make that choice,” Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian said on his radio show Monday via the Indianapolis Star. “Peyton and I have spoken about that, and he’s okay with that.”
Polian is scouting Stanford this week, where that potential “right person” just so happens to play.
We’ve heard that it would be difficult for the Colts to fit Manning and No. 1 overall quarterback under the salary cap, but it’s not nearly as hard as it would be in the past. In fact, we think it makes a lot of sense -- if Manning is healthy.
Whether Manning welcomes another quarterback to the team or not, he still has a long way to go before proving he’ll be able to play football in 2012.
