Another week yet same old reaction. Starting to feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

The Packers are the defending Champs and they've proven to be the best in the league after 10 weeks. There's no shame in being second best to the Packers for now. While we have our flaws, it's hard to argue against the fact that the 49ers have been improving week to week.

Fellow Niner fans: no sense justifying anything to those who still have their doubts. Records, quality of opponents, statistics and general circumstances should speak for themselves. Those who love to point out our deficiencies by shouting out stats are often the same folks who ignore the #'s when they're favorable to us.

For a team that's been down since 2002, the claim to fame and accolades need to be earned. If we maintain these consistent improvements, then earned they shall be. Afterall - since perception = reality, we've been perceived to be pretty crappy for a long time. Just cuz we washed off the sh-t we've been in since '02, people are only drawing attention to some of the old stink.

helluva year so far!

@smoothjommyapollo

I don't know about that. I've watched every single 49er game this year, and in every single game, they've added a new facet to the offense. In the most recent game, the 49ers managed to beat the Giants with a 76-24% pass/rush ratio. I'm not saying Alex Smith is some kind of dynamo, but I don't think we've seen the best of him.. .certainly not the last.

WOW obviously Rothensal had alot to do with these rankings!
Raiders #13 is just crazy! They should be in the top 5..
They lead the diviosn there for they should automatically be in the top 10..
They have beaten the Texans who is ranked higher than them, They are way better then the Bengals the only reason why they are ranked high is because thats rothensals favorite team..
The Real top 5 List is this:
1-Packers
2 49ers
3- Steelers
4 Giants
5 Raiders
-----------------
Raiders or giants or 4 or 5, or you can put even the Ravens at #5 and put Raiders at 6 but Raiders are in the top 10.. They are going to Super bowl after all

@travisblink619, the 49er offense is as installed as it's going to be for this season. I'm far more impressed that Harbaugh has them at 8-1 with that quarterback. Good coaches recognize the talent they have around them and fit their schemes to the available talent. He recognizes that Smith isn't very good, so he puts him in situations where even Smith can find success. Lots of bad quarterbacks have good seasons (Dilfer, Frerotte, Kitna, Derek Anderson, and many more). They all eventually get exposed.

I'm glad the Niners have risen to prominence in the NFL again. It's a storied and proud franchise. They have a great defense, an improved quarterback and a solid run game. That's the key to winning in the playoffs. Except when the other team has Jermichael Finley, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Donald Driver, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Aaron Rodgers throwing to them and a running back who averages 5 yards per carry.

You Niners fans have THAT much confidence in your nickel and dime d-backs?

Besides, O think its pretty damn impressive that the team has gone 8-1 with a "high school" quarterback. Speaks for how complete the rest of the team is.

The vikequeens are still way overrated at 26. I guess MF just can't face the truth that his precious purple excrement balls are as bad as they look.

Apparently he didn't see that priceless look on Jared Allen's face last night when Matt Flynn ran in for a TD. No, not Rodgers..........Matt Flynn! The pre-game smug looks of both Ponder and Allen got knocked da "F" off.

Notice how quite all the lavender Larry pukes are today. Can't you just envision them all wrapped up in the fetal position in a dark corner, thumbs in mouths with their fecal stained purple blankies covering their genetically defective heads.

There’s a fine line between courage and stupidity. It’s precise placement usually is determined by the outcome.

"Aside from passing offense, where is Green Bay better than San Francisco?? NOWHERE!!!"

More points per game, a better point differential, a better record.

Also, you can't just discount passing offense. It's a passing league. That's like saying, aside from the hitting, how is Albert Pujols better than the Matt Stairs?

8man:
The reason why the defense seems to be getting better is the fact they have had to put in guys that no one else consisdered taking. They have a chip on their shoulders and are basically saying: "None of you other teams wanted me? These guys are giving me the chance and I'm going to make the rest of you pay for it."
I think it is just that simple....

You do realize barring some sort of calamity no matter WHAT happens on Sunday the Steelers will come out of it TIED for first don’t you?

You do realize it's the exact opposite of that don't you? No matter what happens Sunday, the Steelers will not come out of it tied for 1st. Either they will be in 2nd place behind Bal, or in 1st place, ahead of both Bal and Cin. They may have the same record, but since the Steelers have played both teams, there would be no tie.

Buffalo fan- I think we deserve to be right where we are ranked, considering how bad we have looked against the Jets and Cowboys. The Defense looks about the same as it has all year minus the takeaways. The Offense looks terrible. Down right ridiculous. Fitzpatrick looks like a rookie. Jackson still looks good, Gailey isn't getting him the ball enough though. The Receivers are running their routes wrong, dropping passes and blocking like a bunch of highschool boys. The O-line is banged up after a stellar first half of the season keeping Fitz the least sacked, now they are making him run for his life. Chandler has gotten lost. This new Kicker... Why? They would of been better off replacing Lindell with Marcell Dareus. We need that spark back Mr Chan Gailey...Get it done. Go Bills!!!!

I think Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the league by far this year. he is playing lights out. Owever, i think that the 9ers could beat them in January in Lambeau. strong running game and a strong defense could set the tone. my worst fear though is that the Packers WRs will do what Manningham was able to do... i.e. get behind the secondary. if they can shore that up it could happen. i wouldnt bet the house on it though. I also think A Smith could move the ball on that GB Def. they arent as good as people think. somebody is gonna have to take the title away from them this year because a repeat is looking likely.

Uhhh…dude, can you read? Do you know what an analogy is? He simply was stating that Hasslebeck is the best QB in the AFC South. He mentioned nothing about any other division, therefore Alex Smith and Matt Leinart aren’t even in the discussion. You know, since they’re in the NFC and all.

Leinart plays for the Texans, so he is in fact in the AFC South.
