A glimpse into the mind of a Browns fan

Nearly every day, someone sends in a link to a video that is sold as being the funniest . . . thing . . . ever.

Few make the cut for consideration by PFT Planet.

But I watch all of them, because every once in a while someone sends in a keeper.  For example, we give you this 71-second masterpiece starring one Browns fans and the exterior of the stadium in which his favorite team plays.

Shot after a November 6 loss in Houston, it pretty much applies to every game played by the Browns.

That’s how we fell in Philly. Just with more overpriced players and a head coach that wont go away

  2. foreverrebuilding says: Nov 17, 2011 8:17 AM

I love the Ryan Pontbriand jersey. Only like 5 of those in the stands. Especially appropriate seeing as his snap was the bouncer that cost the Browns their last loss.

He’s still Butch Davis’ best draft pick though.

  3. larrydavidstern says: Nov 17, 2011 8:18 AM

Good thing Holmgren decided to hire his buddy Pat “Lunesta” Shurmer, who had no head coaching experience. It’s not like the Browns needed to hire an established coach or anything. This guy is in so over his head and the game is moving waay to fast for him. I’d fire him already. Might as well do it after this season then in 2 from now, which they’ll of course do.

Hahahah the absolute best poor browns

  5. joeinoh says: Nov 17, 2011 8:22 AM

Very true. But hear this Lerner, you are losing your grip on this football town. You are facing a generation that has never seen a consistant winning football team. It’s that generation that passes that home town love on to the next generation. I’m from the mid to late 80’s era and now my 11 year old thinks I’m crazy for rooting for the Browns. What has anyone younger than I seen of this team? A perrenial loser. …See you next Sunday.

That’s true Dawk, but be prepared for the onslaught of commentors telling you how grateful we should be to have had Andy Reid as our coach and to consistently win (nothing) for the last decade. How ashamed we should be that we want more.

Nice! It’s the dude from “Man in the Box”! If you haven’t seen those run of YouTube vids, check it out…high comedy.

    Speaking of high comedy…

@dawkinseffect: don’t ever, ever, EVER compare your “plight” with that of Browns fans. There’s no less than 15 teams that will take a decade like the Eagles had in the 00s. A run of 5 conference title appearances and a close loss in the Super Bowl isn’t misery…your undeserving fanbase just makes it sound like it is. If you think your 2011 season hurts, try living that nightmare each and every year…

  17. pooponurface says: Nov 17, 2011 8:55 AM

    @dawkinseffect

That is not how you feel in Philly. Don’t even try to compare the two. You have no idea what it feels like to be a Browns fan.

You have a team that since 1999 (when we got the “new” Browns) has been to the playoffs 9 times, and the Super Bowl once. You had a perennial Pro-Bowl quarterback who you boo’d out of town (and was soon replaced by another one) and you complain about it.

When you’ve had your team taken from you, and replaced with an unending plethora of mediocrity, only then can you say “That’s how we feel in Philly.”

  18. selgaeinla says: Nov 17, 2011 8:56 AM

    “You are a factory of sadness”–That’s a great line…lol

  22. 4t9er says: Nov 17, 2011 8:57 AM

The Browns have the classiest and most passionate fans in the league. The reason is that the decades of awfulness makes it impossible to have any but true fans, you won’t find any bandwagoners that makes you hate successful teams (Steelers, Patriots, GB) or recently successful teams (SF,Detroit).

  23. hooptie says: Nov 17, 2011 9:03 AM

How does a coach at the highest level design a trick play that is illegal? Call my crazy but shouldn’t he know that 2 forward passes during the same play is illegal? Tells me Shurloss is in over is in over his head.

  24. lichnor says: Nov 17, 2011 9:04 AM

If Steelers fans had any pity for their arch nemesis it would be funny seeing an, “It Gets Better” series of videos pointing out the absolute horrid futility of the Steelers every, single year until the decade of the 1970’s.

Chances are, right after the game, he grabbed his video camera and tripod – by himself…filmed on LakeShore Blvd. and posted it out of pure unadulterated frustration.

Add to that LeBron James leaving – the Indians being the Indians – there’s nothing else.

It’s a football town – and the best football is high school football, include St. Ignatius, Glenville, Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s (division 3 in some years).

    It’s misery

  29. abengalfan says: Nov 17, 2011 9:10 AM

I’ll admit used to really enjoy having fun at Clowns’ fans expense.
Then the 90’s came. Bengals started the Lost Decade and the Clowns left town.
That was plain wrong, fans supported the team, Moddell just mismanaged his money.
Rightfully so the NFL gave Cleveland a team w/ same colors and kept the records.
Sadly since then each year either the Bengals or Clowns have sucked. Many years both have.
What was once a fun rivalry is now just 2 games a year.
So yes a Benglas fan wishes Cleveland would get better, just not a whole lot better.

Yes. You poor, poor, Philly fans. How do you guys even work up the will to watch your team? It must be heart-wrenching to watch your team have it’s THIRD losing season since 1999.

That’s exactly how Niner fans have been feeling for the past 10 years or so. And really, that’s how we felt before Bill Walsh. The Niners are 8-1 as I write this, and all I can think is, “They’re just setting us up to rip our hearts out again.”

Two thumbs up to the fan from Cleveland!

  33. cledawg says: Nov 17, 2011 9:17 AM

That is sooo true. They are a farm team that doesn’t even produce much. So sad. The fans need to stop going to the games, that is all management and ownership understand. It’s unwatchable football.

  49. cbass59 says: Nov 17, 2011 11:09 AM

When Browns fans get past hating Modell, maybe they’ll realize that Lerner (older one) manipulated Art so he was forced to move the team. Lerner knew Cleveland would eventually get another team and that he would be the owner. This was the only way for him to get the team (in Cle) before he died.

Now he’s passed the team off to his won who cares more about soccer.

If you don’t believe me, look up how Ohio’s politicians (especially Voinovich) asked Art Modell to basically give the Indians and Cavs 0% interest loans and wait until Jacobs and Gund got their deals finished. Then, they reneged on their promises. Lerner was involved. Lerner was part or Modell’s team when they left.

  50. daffy87 says: Nov 17, 2011 11:34 AM

Starting running back, the Madden cover boy, always hurt…never playing. His backup, always hurt….never playing. No #1 receiver to speak of, a squad of 2’s and 3’s. Not overly shocking that they can’t score, and that McCoy hasn’t looked great. I don’t think he’s looked bad though. But when you look at other young QB’s who had early succes (Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez), they all had a healthy running game to support them and a few weapons at their disposal as well….unfortunately Colt has neither of these. Got two 1st round picks next year, hopefully Holmgren snags up some offensive firepower.

Cbass – you have no clue. The new stadium was on the ballot for 95 vote before Modell was caught in his treachery AND it passed AFTER he was caught and admitted to it. This even after he said before the 95 season that “I will never move this team, but I may sell it someone that could.”
Then he has to sell to Biscotti after the move to Bmore because of his financial mismanagement even with the sweetheart deal they gave him? Yea, he’s Brilliant!

Not to hijack a very funny Browns-themed post, but you have it wrong, my friend.

You shouldn’t be ashamed for wanting more. We all want more. Not one Eagles fan is happy with making the playoffs and not winning a Super Bowl. The difference is that those of us supporting Reid realize that coaches who consistently get to the playoffs don’t fall out of trees. We also want more. We just think Reid’s a better bet than Coach X who might replace him. Nobody ever extends the argument past firing Reid. You have to hire someone else to replace him.

My wife is a Browns fan and I lived in Cleveland for a year.

The sad thing is, Browns fans act like this when they WIN too. It’s the weirdest thing you will ever see. I lived there the year they went 10-6 and they would complain on local radio and TV that the wrong QB was WINNING games for them. I grew up with the 49ers and NEVER heard something like that even with the Montana/Young years.

Funny thing is the more she and my in-laws complained about the team the more I liked them and I became a full fledged fan myself when I moved to Indianapolis and watched the Colts play pretty bad and win 13 games a season doing it while the Browns playing hard could barely win 6. I’ve said it many times. Put some of those 4 and 6 win Browns teams of the past few years in the NFC West and they win the division every year. Just the idea of “if you want to make the playoffs you have to beat two superbowl contenders twice a year” would make any team look bad.
