Your Thursday Michael Vick update

Mike Kafka, Vince Young, Michael Vick AP

So will Michael Vick play on Sunday night against the Giants?

It depends on who you ask.  ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Vick is unlikely to play.  Almost all of the Eagles beat writers think Vick won’t play.

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhingweg disagrees, saying he’s “optimistic” Vick will play.

“He’s a tough guy and he wants to play,” Mornhinweg said Thursday. “He’s tough mentally and physically and he’s doing everything he can, so we’ll see.”

Nick Fierro of the Morning Call isn’t seeing it.

“Don’t care how tough Vick is.  He ain’t playing Sunday.  Just saw him a minute ago.  He could barely walk,” Fierro said.

It sounds like Vince Young is preparing to make his first Eagles start. Vick didn’t practice Thursday. If Vick doesn’t get on the practice field Friday, we won’t probably won’t hear any more conflicting information.

I think it could be done (playing with broken ribs) if you are talking a drop back–pocket passer, which Vick isn’t.
On his best day he gets hit a dozen times, any one of which could send him off on a stretcher.

Guess they have to play Vince Young, as they stupidly gave him a butt-load of money for just this. He’s still terrible however.

closing in on Ben’s drama queen award…

Dunce Young has just been confirmed to start and Las Vegas just gave an extra 8 points to the Eagles.

*Somehow this will turn into a bash Vick post….
*This deserves to be a bash Vince “mentally” Young post….

  6. jdandcoke says: Nov 17, 2011 3:32 PM

hopefully he does play and the giants end his season once and for all. also, the giants dont have the greatest track record against back-ups in general, or against vince young specifically. the guy who i hope doesnt play is maclin.

  7. xxwhodatxx says: Nov 17, 2011 3:35 PM

Why does anyone care anymore?? He’s a long way away from where he was last year when all you media ppl were on his jock. NO ONE besides eagle fans and the loser falcon fans still holding their Vick jerseys still give a crap about him. You all had given the Eagles the Lombardi before preseason even started, its quite amusing to me.

  8. bhink73 says: Nov 17, 2011 3:36 PM

All this commotion over a dead 3-6 team! Who cares who plays QB, RB or fat head coach. The Iggles are done. Let’s move on to the teams that have a shot at winning a title shall we?

  9. trenaro says: Nov 17, 2011 3:40 PM

    Romo played.

  10. nfloracle says: Nov 17, 2011 3:45 PM

Vick isn’t as tough as Tony Romo, that’s for sure.

  11. brintfatre says: Nov 17, 2011 3:47 PM

If his status hasn’t been officially changed he will play. He’s probably not even hurt…

  12. n0hopeleft says: Nov 17, 2011 3:49 PM

The real miracle at the Meadowlands will be if Vick plays on Sunday and doesn’t die.

  17. herwordskillyou says: Nov 17, 2011 4:01 PM

Taking a week off is probably for the best. He just hasn’t been the same player as he was in 2010. I don’t know if it’s the new contract or the lack of a real preseason. Seems like it’s been a real struggle for Vick this season though.

Big Ben played hard with broken ribs and did a good job. Vick is no Big Ben. Also, Ben loves dogs.

JHANDCOKE wants Vick to play so the Giants can end his season. O.K. i hope Eli catches a helmet on the knee. i beleive people on here like the word KARMA.

Giants’ fan here. Was taking the Eagles anyway but if this is true, I’m betting my kid’s college fund.

  23. myeaglescantwin says: Nov 17, 2011 4:12 PM

if Vick cant start,, then that would say Tony Romo is tougher than Mike Vick.. Just another slap in the pants to the Eagles…

I never once thought that signing Vince Young was a smart move. Especially since they only gave him a one year deal.
Now all the unknowledgeable fans will say, “we can just trade him after the season.” How can we?/ he’s and unrestricted FA..

Also, Kafka has been in our system for 2 years, he has the knowledge to be competitent. .
I’d like to have Kafka start & keep the gameplan run heavy.. That might show Andy that a balanced attack is necessary.

but instead VY will start, we will throw 80% of the plays & Shady will only get 14 carries again.. Pack your bags mister Reid.

  24. weepingjebus says: Nov 17, 2011 4:13 PM

Will he at least give a postgame press conference? Not sure I can go a week without staring into those dead eyes.

playing with broken ribs and a punctured lung, (and you really believe this) please call me as i have some oceanfront property in the midwest i’m looking to unload.

The only Vick update that matters is his UPDATED DEPARTURE SCHEDULE-
out of Philly and off of my favorite team!

At least Bad Newz will prove to be instrumental in getting us a new Head Coach.

  29. fx1718 says: Nov 17, 2011 4:41 PM

All Vick has done this season is prove he’s the same guy ON THE TURF he was in Atlanta. Flashes of greatness but serious inconsistency issues.

  30. jakek2 says: Nov 17, 2011 4:42 PM

m.e.c.w. – Worry not. McCoy will run 30 times for a buck-fitty with 8 catches for another 75. Eagles will win 27-21 and be right back in the race. Giants’ fan here has seen it too many times.

  31. rukiddnme29 says: Nov 17, 2011 4:43 PM

Start Kafka so you can start the trade bait for next year! They won’t be worse with Young if he starts. The general public’s love (or hate) for Vick doesn’t mean he’s really all that good.

I’m pretty sure he meant that he wanted the EAGLES’ season to be ended. The TEAM, as a whole. Losing this week would certainly be the end for them. Didn’t look like an injury wish on Vick to me

Why does anyone care?………………………..For the same reason you do, which is exactly why you and the others took the time to read the article and take even more time to write a comment. You all say you don’t care and then read and write on every article written about Vick, you even take the time to find these articles, now that is what is quite amusing to me.

GM, the difference is vic deserves what he gets. Eli didnt take pride and enjoy pain inflicted on helpless animals. In this case karma is the equalizer, and as you can see, working well.

“Comical” is having to endure 2 months of how unstoppable and loaded with talent the “Dream Team” was, and how the Super Bowl was a foregone conclusion. Seeing that translate into 3-6 and constant rumblings about their $100 mil QB, and Reid, has been far more “comical”, my man. Take my word for it.

  52. laeaglefan says: Nov 17, 2011 8:40 PM

Everyone is predicting a Giants blowout on Sunday, but just wait and see….Vince Young is going to throw for over 300 yards, with a couple of TDs, run for about 90 more yards and the Eagles are going to squeak out a win….27-24.
