Joe Flacco fined $7,500 for horse-collar tackle

There’s been plenty of talk in the NFL about the league office going too far in fining defensive players for hits on quarterbacks, but for the second time today we have news of a quarterback being fined for a hit on a defensive player.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has been fined $7,500 for a horse-collar tackle on Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne on Sunday. Flacco made the tackle after chasing Hawthorne after an interception.

News of Flacco’s fine comes hours after the NFL confirmed that Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was fined $7,500 for a hit on Bears defensive back D.J. Moore.

Another Raven, defensive tackle Arthur Jones, was also fined $7,500. Jones was called for unnecessary roughness on Sunday.

  4. steelers4life says: Nov 18, 2011 5:49 PM

I am impressed. I didn’t think Joke Flaccid had the cojones to make a play like that.

  5. seatownballers says: Nov 18, 2011 5:55 PM

Good fine. A clear penalty out of frustration.
Just one question, where does all this ” fine” money go?

  6. kevo126 says: Nov 18, 2011 5:59 PM

that was the least dangerous tackle i have ever seen and flacco gets fined for it? i know its a penalty but that doesnt mean it has to be fined.

  7. steelnucs says: Nov 18, 2011 6:03 PM

Was there a flag thrown on the play? Didn’t see the game, so it would be nice to know that little piece of info. If there was, this fine is ludicrous and asinine. Goodell has to be stopped in his atttempt to ruin the only sport that matters anymore.

When, oh when, will these quarterbacks stop making vicious hits on poor defenseless defensive players?

    Uh-oh, it’s Joedomikong!

  10. steelersownyou says: Nov 18, 2011 6:19 PM

Forget the horse collar tackle. He should be fined for impersonating a QB. And prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We shall name it “the incompetent QB Law” court is adjourned!

seatownballers: spend 5 seconds with Google and you can answer your own question.

I’ve never had a high opinion of Flacco but good for him. I want my QB making that tackle every chance he gets.

    Stafford is the man.

  15. 1920gsh says: Nov 18, 2011 7:04 PM

    What hit by Stafford?

Don’t know how you qualify not being able to shed a block and then resorting to dragging a guy six inches shorter than you down by the helmet as a “hit.”

    He’s a MENACE!

  17. stevez51 says: Nov 18, 2011 7:19 PM

If that was Peyton Manning he would run out of bounds behind him.

  18. cbass59 says: Nov 18, 2011 7:56 PM

He should have been fined double that for his performances against SEA and JAX.

  19. dlmcc1010 says: Nov 18, 2011 8:08 PM

Can we stop with all the fines? Im not even paying the fine and it annoys me to no end. Its overboard. football is a rough sport and we have penalty flags to deal with this stuff.

The league office personnel will some great Christmas bonuses this year with all the fines.

Flacco should be fined for his quarterback play.

  24. 52raylewis says: Nov 18, 2011 8:56 PM

To the steeler fans commenting: 92 yards, game winning touchdown to seal the victory and the sweep. Go ahead and replay that one in your head for awhile.

  25. marcrayray says: Nov 18, 2011 9:04 PM

I watched the game, and he hardly pulled down- let go before he took him to the ground. Never imagined at the time that he would be fined. Out of control.

thats ok ratbirds we will beat u when it counts in the play offs to send u home AGAIN

  27. edgarpoe2 says: Nov 18, 2011 11:26 PM

It was a great play by Flacco. It save a TD, although the Seahawks did eventually get a field goal. Although the Ravens eventually lost anyway, his “horse-collar” tackle kept the game within reach.

However, there is no truth to the rumor that Flacco will be replacing Ray Lewis at linebacker when he retires. I just wanted to clear that up. ;)

    @ soulman45:
Please, for the “frist” time in your life, stop butchering the English language.

  29. danwhitmer says: Nov 19, 2011 2:45 AM

    @ steelersownyou

Still a little sour that the “imposter” Joe Flacco beat your team twice?

  30. phrogs71 says: Nov 19, 2011 6:47 AM

Why is it that the qb’s are the highest paid yet get the smallest fines. A well as they’re paid & protected, they should be docked at least 25% of they’re weekly pay.

  31. steelersownyou says: Nov 19, 2011 7:32 AM

Ya this year you won the super bowl twice already! Yet wint even make the playoffs. Bengals will beat you this week. Ive seen both teams play. And cincy is better than the ravens. Rou ravens fans may wanna pop in tape of 2008 &2010 playoffs for a fresh reminder. Reg season is all well & good. But the ravens CHOKE in the playoffs! And steelers fans already know this man! Yee haw……

  32. vincentbojackson says: Nov 19, 2011 12:50 PM

He should have been fined twice that amount for his ridiculous play versus teams with losing records.
