Report: Vick won’t play Sunday night

V. Younghit Getty Images

We may not get the final, official word until gametime. But Geoff Mosher of the News Journal reports that the Eagles have already determined Michael Vick will not play Sunday night.

Vince Young took all the practice reps with the first team on Thursday and looks slated to start against the Giants.

We thought this game would potentially decide the NFC East.  Instead, it may only decide whether Young gets an opportunity to start next year on some team.

It wasn’t so long ago that Young was the young hotshot running quarterback, ripping off six straight wins while the football populace debated whether he could last.

Okay, that does feel like a long time ago.

UPDATE: Vick didn’t practice Friday. Jeremy Maclin didn’t practice either and is expected to miss the game.

maybe this is our chance to get a Top 5 pick…even though the only player I know coming out is Luck and he wont be there for the Birds.

I need a one time, bye week, replacement for drew brees. Thumbs up for Sam Bradford, thumbs down for Vince Young.

Time to dust off the wildcat and insert Ronnie

Vick in – Giants win. Young in – Giants lose. Giants’ fan here betting my kids college savings on it.

Uncanny how similar Tebow’s and Young’s stories are. Quite uncanny indeed.

That means the eagles actually have a chance to win than. Darn it!!

Michael is very concerned about Vince upstaging him.

Let’s hope Kiwanuka drives VY to the ground this time.

Does it really matter? Vick? Young? Both losers and are an insult to the QB position anyway. R.I.P dream team.

  11. andre504 says: Nov 18, 2011 11:48 AM

I am not surprised by this at all when you have a average throwing running back for a QB… Vick is very entertaining but at this point in his career he is not reading defenses as well as he should, takes too many risks running and not sliding, and is inconsistent.

  12. raylewis52 says: Nov 18, 2011 11:49 AM

Who didn’t see an injury to Michael Vick coming. Only thing that has surprised me is the Eagles put themselves out of the playoff race sooner.

When you say “We thought this game would potentially decide the NFC East”… I hope you are referring to Dallas & NY and not Philly & NY.

While my Redskins suffer through another dreadful season it brings me great pleasure to witness the misery of The Eagle Fan. I hate Dallas the most and the Giants and their fans are nothing to write home about either but nothing in the sporting world is so satisfying when my team is down as watching The Eagle Fan drunkenly gaze to the Heavens unsure of just how it got to be that his team is so bad. Hail to the Redskins – such as they are.

As a giants fan, this is the last thing I wanted to see. The giants chances of winning are much greater when Vick is in.

  16. abninf says: Nov 18, 2011 12:13 PM

Vick has a low pain threshold. He should get some tips from Romo on how to toughen up a little bit.

  17. thereisalwaysnextyear says: Nov 18, 2011 12:15 PM

Vince doesn’t have the intelligence, attitude, work ethic or temperment to be a long time winning QB in the NFL.
The current hot shot young running QB has all of the above.

  18. randylaheytpb says: Nov 18, 2011 12:26 PM

Finally, some good news in favor of the Giants.

It’s always nice to play against a quarterback more concerned with furthering his own career and serving himself, as opposed to someone whose primary concern is winning.

uh, there’s a HUGE difference. Young was hated and he took it seriously, too seriously and acted like an immature kid, Tebow doesnt come across as that. both can win though somehow. as for Young, this will be his chance. he deemed this team the dream team.

  22. n0hopeleft says: Nov 18, 2011 12:36 PM

Vince Young and Michael Vick = OVERRATED!

  23. mrplow3 says: Nov 18, 2011 12:38 PM

Get ready to watched Tim Tebow again…………….only minus the whole game winning drive thing.

  24. greymares says: Nov 18, 2011 12:40 PM

I’m guessing most posts monday morning will go something like this: so what we have 3 superbowls and you have an empty trophy case, and so what your 4-6 and we are 6-4.

  25. 2ndaryinsanity says: Nov 18, 2011 12:43 PM

The nightmare season continues for the under-achieving Eagles… Vince Young lost his mojo on the field and was a head case…that’s why the Titans were willing to release their former #3 pick. There’s almost no scenario where Young even plays “as well as Vick,” especially with Maclin out of the game as well. If the Walrus doesn’t call Shady McCoy’s # early and often…he deserves to be fired.

  26. countsnail says: Nov 18, 2011 12:44 PM

It’s ironic that the man who came up with the whole “Dream Team” moniker is going to be the same person who puts the final nail in the Eagles’ coffin.

  27. eaglesnoles05 says: Nov 18, 2011 12:49 PM

If they run a tebow type o with vince, ronnie, and mccoy, tossing deep off of that to riley copoper and djax… I’m serious, that’s gonna be hard to stop.

Buuuuuuut, watch for the silly crazy playcall west coast hybrid offense anyway, because the smart-thing-to-do just doesn’t seem to get done with this team.

  28. bossplayer213 says: Nov 18, 2011 12:56 PM

Giants fans are so phony, hilarious. No, Vince does not give the Eagles a better chance to win than Vick.

    Please just top.

  29. kingjoe1 says: Nov 18, 2011 1:12 PM

Maybe if some other teams start winning, the Eagles can get into the Suck for Luck sweeps! Teh Giants are going to blow them out of the water.
No Vick, No Maclin and a useless DeSean

  30. boswivel says: Nov 18, 2011 1:14 PM

Young gives the Eagles fans the best chance to wince…in pain, fear, dread, and embarrassment.

  33. gcsuk says: Nov 18, 2011 1:40 PM

Not trying to sound like an arrogant Giants fan, but I don’t see how the Giants lose this game. Sure both teams have injuries, but if the Giants can’t be motivated to pound THIS team, then they can’t get up for another game this year. They have to be able to use the embarrassment of last year as motivation, and the knowledge that they can effectively end the Eagles season, pretty much like the Eagles ended theirs last year.

I’d rather have young or Vick than Eli. And all the giants fans that think Vick is so beatable last time I checked Philly defense blew it last game. And the game before that he brought them back from a huge deficit with 7 minutes left to beat them ginas. Win or lose Dallas wins the division. I hate both NY an Dallas.

  36. thefiesty1 says: Nov 18, 2011 2:10 PM

Bring on Vince. He was 30-17 at Tennessee. That’s better than Vick, even before the dog fighting. Philly signed Vince for just this situation which was predictable.

  37. laeaglefan says: Nov 18, 2011 3:12 PM

The over/under on Vince Young turnovers is 3.
    I’d take the over.

So if Desean is useless then how come defenses saftys play so far back just to contain him giving Lesean McCoy alot of running space after he brakes threw the DL ?To tell you the truth teams are scared of D-Jack because they dont want him to fly past the secondary for the TD.

As much as i love to watch Vick when he is at his best, i still get nervous every time he throws because he throws a lot of bad passes. As much as i would love to see Vick come back from this injury and go be the same Vick he was last year, I almost want them to get a better draft pick and get a great LB or maybe even a QB like Matt Barkley if he still is available.

One question that i have is that if the eagles wanted to trade Vick if they drafted a new one, isn’t there something that forces them to pay for a lot of his contract?
