Like 1977broncofan said...smart move to free up money wasted especially when everyone knows Orton is not the guy for the Brinco's. Cut ties with him now allowing Orton a chance to do something and giving Denver what it needs a focus on what we have now. Obviosly Elway is figuring out where to go with the team. He has to make moves to get things done and Orton is too pricey to sit on the shelf. If Tebow goes out see what Quinn can do if Tebow keeps his winning ways than we have other decisions to make...surely we are building for the longterm and we need to get rid of privey things we don't want, figure out what we want to keep, and/or get findout and rid of more of what we dont want to make more moves. I for one see a team winning even when they are looked at as a mess, which is much better than losing and being a mess. Plus watching this season play out got much more interesting!

skins season is over. they wont touch orton.

bears are possible.

orton would be an improvement in seattle or arizona. but coaches seem married to t-jack (why?) and kolb.

jets should consider him. miami is on a roll. they dont need him.

why not cleveland?

i can see houston taking a flyer. at least put heat on leinart.

jax has their qb of the future and they arent winning anything this year. del rio is just about history also.

kaycee is a real possibility. but that team has issues that a new qb cant fix.

why not san diego? rivers plays like he is hurt.

First off, Elway had nothing to do with the Cutler/Orton/ McDaniels soap opera. Second, after an 8-8 season in 2009, Orton has been a real disappointment. He had Gaffney, Lloyd and others to throw to. Third, If I remember the way it played out, Orton was the one that turned down the trade to Miami. The Broncos tried to trade him. Had they traded and settled for a low draft choice then everyone would be complaining that Denver did not get enough for him. There is probably a good reason why they let him go now rather than at the beginning of a new league year. The writing was on the wall that Orton was gone no matter what after this year.

It is time to get over what McDaniels did to this team. And if you want to be realistic it started with Shanahan and some of his bad drafting/free agent signings. So McD picked Tebow too high in the draft. Can't change that. I am still not convinced that Cutler was a franchise QB in Denver. He is in Chicago with a broken thumb now. Elway has not said that Tebow was or wasn't the QB of the future. Just that so far he did not feel that the QB slot had been solidified or that the question was answered in his mind. He could say the same thing at RB as well. Or for most every position on the team.

I find it amusing that Raider fans and other teams that Tebow has played this year constantly talk about the "wait until he faces a real defense" issue. So I guess the 299 yds on the ground they rolled up on the defense of the team with the second best record in the AFC was a fluke? Lost in the warm fuzzy afterglow of memories of what a great guy Al Davis was to the Raiders is the last 10 years of bad drafts, ill advised coaching moves and on and on. And yet you have a pretty good team now. You got over it. Denver ran over you for a bunch of yards. Your defense is still pretty good. What Tebow did to the Jets in the last 6 minutes of the game was no anomaly. So should we say that Rex Ryan doesn't know defense?

I am not ready to say that Tebow is the guy long term. But I know that Orton was not and that BQ may not be either. But NeckBeard Luck and all the other "saviors" out there all have one thing in common: ZERO NFL experience. This 11 game audition that Tebow is in the middle of will go along way in proving if he is a top tier QB. A complete offseason with mini-camps ,along with an open competition with another QB or two should settle the issue for the Tebow lovers and haters alike.

If you are a true Broncos fan, not a fly by night I Like Tebow fan, you have to be scratching your head. Yes, you are in the hunt for playoffs but you have to wonder how long this type of offense will work. When they get down by more than a couple score then what. If you truly need a 2 minute drive and you have no time outs what then. You now send another QB packing, how many more times can you throw the dice with out craps. By Elway's reactions he is thinking the same way.

I don't understand this move. Tebow put the Broncos back into the play-off race. Everyone predicts he'll be injured, so wouldn't u want Orton as a back-up to try to make the play-offs? I realize Orton was 1-4, but they're gonna hang their date in Brady? That's not even considering Chicago or KC getting him. Surely, making the play-offs is worth $2.5M to an NFL team? This just reeks of stupid...unless you don't want to make th play-offs.

Hey geniuses, it doesn't matter if the Bears WANT Orton or not. He's on waivers so he's got to clear teams like Indy, KC, Washinton, Seattle, etc who could all use a QB upgrade and are higher than Chicago in waiver claim priority. He doesn't get to pick where he gets to play unless he clears waivers.

Oh, and to all those mentioning the “timing” and 3 teams in need of QB’s, it’s not like they can get anything for him other than salary relief. The trade deadline came and went weeks past.
==========================

You are entirely missing the point. No one is saying they are trying to trade him.

They timed this move to coincide with so many teams looking for QBs so that it would be more likely that one would claim him and take the entire 2.5m off of the Broncos payroll, rather than those teams taking the risk of waiting for him to clear waivers.

In which case, they could sign him for less as a free agent and the Broncos would be responsible for the difference.

I wonder if the Lions would pick him up as insurance against Stafford’s broken finger? Put Hill as #3 and cut Stanton so he can play for the Bears. LMBO!"

Apparently, the Bears are ahead of the Lions because the Bears had the tougher schedule.

Elway is clueless. He could of got a 4th from Miami, but decided to get greedy and hold out for a higher pick. Now he won't get jack for Orton, not even the comp pick they would get when he walks as a FA. Good luck Denver, I'm sure he'll cut Tebow at the end of the year too.
