Texans will have “definitive answer” on Schaub by Wednesday

The next 48 hours will be crucial for Texans quarterback Matt Schaub’s chances of playing again this year. Schaub is going to see a specialist on Tuesday.

“We should have a definitive answer Wednesday which way we’re going.

“We’ll keep our fingers crossed. We’ve got a couple of opinions we’re working with right now, but we’ll hold out hope with Matt and wait until this [specialist] takes a look at it and gives us his opinion and see what happens,” coach Gary Kubiak said via the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans are expected to sign a veteran quarterback once they know how long Schaub is out. The expectation remains that he won’t be back this season.

  1. Next guy up means the backup replaces the starter if/when the starter get hurt. Why does that count for every position except quarterback. If your backup quarterback is not capable of replacing the starting quarterback and winning a few games then there is a problem with the backup quarterback, coaching staff, and general manager because you have a guy on the team who cannot play and to make it worse, he is getting a check for no reason.

  2. I really hope that Schaub can return, even if it has to be in the middle of the playoffs. Its great to see this team finally come together, but sad to see their hopes get dashed. It might be the only time they make the playoffs while someone wears number 18 in Indy.

  3. What a shame for Texans fans. I realize Lienert only has to be a “game manager”, but that’s not going to win you a super bowl this year, and that’s the plan correct? I am disappointed for the fans of this perennially underachieving team, that seemed like they were finally putting it all together. Phillips has made the D more than respectable, which has been their achillies. And now ….poof, all gone. Maybe they make the playoffs, but unless Schaub comes back, that’s where the story will end.

  4. Hey Dalucks, u dumb-dumb, it’s not that they have no faith in Leinart, it’s that they are one injury away from sending TJ Yates in the game.. Uneducated football guy.

  5. titans bwahahahahahahaha…you obviously don’t watch football @savannahrose44!!

Signing another QB has nothing at all to do with replacing Schaub in the starting line up! It called having another back up in case of another injury at the position.

The Texans have done just as good or better then any NFL team this line with “next guy up” with the injury to key players this year!
