Kevin Smith carted off in Detroit

Last week, Lions running back Kevin Smith was hailed as the best story in the NFL. This week he may be a sad story.

Smith, who went from being unemployed for most of the season to being last week’s NFC offensive player of the week, was carted off the field today in Detroit after suffering a lower leg injury.

It’s not immediately clear what happened to Smith: On the play when he was injured he wasn’t even touched, he simply seemed to plant his foot awkwardly when pitching the ball to Nate Burleson on a reverse, and he limped off the field.

If Smith is gone for a significant period of time, it would be a huge blow to the Lions’ offense: Smith’s arrival had given the running game some life after it appeared to be lifeless following the loss of Jahvid Best to a concussion.

The Lions have also lost safety Louis Delmas and cornerback Chris Houston to injuries.

In the second quarter, the Thanksgiving game is a scoreless tie.

How much cheating can the refs do to keep the Packers perfect???? Crap call on pass interference, followed by dropped pass that is called a completion???????

Maybe he got chop blocked or his helmet ripped off by hands to the face.

Oof, wait, only the Loins do that.

Shame, because he was running like he was a top 3 running back.

This is why Kevin Smith was available. He can’t stay healthy

Very unfortunate if he is out for an extended period of time. He worked very hard to get back in the NFL and I hope his injury isn’t too serious. I don’t even like the Kittens either.

I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I gotta tell you… the double standard of reffing in this game is unbelievable. A bogus roughing call on Detroit, meanwhile Matthews Jr. gets away with a lot worse hitting Stafford late. Is it always this way with Green Bay?

  10. bspurloc says: Nov 24, 2011 2:02 PM

so essentially you cant touch a top 5 quarterback or it is ruffing the passer?

that s new rule? it isnt just brady peyton anymore?

Flag to many men on the field. U just cant see it cause the refs have thier packer jerseys covered up by thier ref shirts. Lee is I crybaby, and if that was a roughing the passer on vander bosch then that obvious late hit no call on stafford was. To bad refs cant make this a fair fight.

Rodger’s looks like Brady lookin’ back at the refs every time he’s touched

don’t get mad at the refs, get mad at your D Coordinator for leaving an awful coverage unit on an island against the best WR unit in the game.

Why is anyone surprised by this, does anyone actually remember why he was such a good story?!?! The guy is a china doll, it sucks but it is what it is.

Kevin Smith got injured? Odd considering how injury proof he has been throughout his career.
